Not now society, a video essayist with a single word channel name just uploaded a feature length video about a horror game I have never heard of but that I will soon be incredibly invested in
you know the horror is good when the reveal of mundanity makes it scarier. I’m so glad nina has options for a good ending! this seems like a really thoughtful developer, it’s honestly fresh air among all the mascot horror
Chillas Art are a brilliant developer and I'm glad to see them gaining more and more fans as time goes on, they have a very wordly approach, and across their catalogue are more than willing to experiment with both the supernatural and the realistic. They also have a very unique style that I quite like, though recently they're moving away from it for a more realistic look, which I don't much care for but it might gain them a wider audience which will be good. I agree heavily on mascot horror being way too prevalent, whilst I adknowledge it has its place it really doesn't do it for me beyond, like, the first four FNAF games. Maybe it's oversaturation, nautrally a genre with so many entries in it would have more duds, idk though it might just be my preference.
Unfortunately, in Japan it's not unlikely that a small streamer would get such crazed attention. Japan has a very odd, kinda creepy fandom culture. My friend used to be a dancer working at Tokyo Disney and even she had a following. She was literally just a background dancer, she didn't have a large role at all. Mothers coddling their sons and seeing them as incapable of wrongdoing is also sadly common over there.
That's crazy about your friend, hope nothing too bad happened. I agree with the latter part of this comment, the boy mom issue is a worldwide thing, there's loads of great videos exploring the phenomenon, as well as a lot of articles. Fascinating honestly.
I'm so glad that Reikiya turns out to be the stalker. Media often neglect that ex-partners are an especially common type of stalker. Especially abusive ones.
I remember reading somewhere that it’s the most common archetype of stalker, but that was a long time ago so I’d need to fact check myself here. Either way yeah it’s another great highlighting of a real issue.
I was so afraid that Reikiya would've been shown in a sympathetic light, even though he clearly has ulterior motives. These types of people prey on weaponized ignorance and victim-blaming, leading to their victims becoming completely disillusioned.
I like how opposed to some other video essay UA-camrs who mostly summarize the games they cover, with every single video I’ve watched from you I’ve seen true deep analysis of the content. You give context, and show how the game can be interpreted for its larger messages, which is great to see. I’m excited for the little hope video and the others to come. (Also on a side note I adore the disco elysium and ddlc background music).
Thanks, I love Disco Elysium and DDLC! Without trying to bash any of my contemporaries, I don't much care for 'video essays' that are just recaps of story, although I appreciate that they're popular and a way of interacting with art that works for some people. A goal I had when I made this channel was to try and educate about the wider context of the art I engage with, not just the audience but also myself. With each video I'm reading new articles and journals and learning new things too.
stalking is one of my biggest fears, like I can't imagine anyone randomly deciding to target me of all people, but if it were to happen there's so little you can directly do to make it stop...
Yeah, it’s one of those uniquely horrifying crimes that can occur seemingly randomly, perhaps even without your notice, and even if you are aware of it there really isn’t much you can do to prevent it without any hard evidence.
Horror games about 'real' horrors like this are always way more scary to me than supernatural horror because they really could happen to you, they could happen to anyone, by anyone. Incredible game, and a great video explanation!
But there's a reason why almost all the protagonists of the games made by this developer (and those who make similar games) are women. And why women are so overwhelmingly represented in horror in comparison to other genres. And it's not because we're "weaker and more helpless".
This game sounds so good! There are so many layers. Textbook abuse tactics (isolation from friends/family, putting the victim into a heightened emotional state, ECT) from the ex that are done really well. Also women are much more often attacked/abused by men they know rather than strangers, so haveing an ex-boyfriend be the stalker is brilliant. And the interactions of strangers with the main character is so good! By that I mean horrible, but done so well. I feel like this captures the day to day terror a lot of women deal with just walking around. "Is that police officer just being nice or is he up to something?" "Is it my imagination or is the store clerk starring at me? What will he do to me if he is?" "I'm in an elevator with a strange man that I'm pretty sure is following me. But maybe he lives here. What if I'm wrong? What if no one believes me?" It feels like the game designer has a deep empathy for the struggles women go through in society. Enough that it resonates even when compareing the story to a very different culture
I agree with all of this. Worth noting is that the brothers behind Chillas Art spent a long time living in America before moving back to Japan, so tend to have more awareness of things like that and homelessness as discussed in the video. They approach Japan from the perspective of outsiders, that's a big motivator for their games as stated in the interview I mentioned, so they have a more worldly perspective than most on near-universal issues such as womens struggles and class barriers.
Interesting. Definitely explains a lot I'm not sure I could actually play through any of their games since stalking is a mayor fear of mine and I'd wind up being incredibly paranoid for weeks after, but I'm really glad they're focusing on this subject matter Especially when they seem to do it with so much nuance and understanding And frankly it freaking me out that much means they hit the mark with what they were trying to do. Frankly one of the highest compliment you can give art
i love the theory that rikiya is the stalker. because while many people have a perception that stalkers are often strangers, the unfortunate reality is that stalking most often occurs between people who know each other. this game (and video essay) does a great job highlighting and representing the gendered horror and objectification women endure.
It kinda feels like the climax of the story especially plays with the expectations of someone who's familiar with Perfect Blue? With so many parallels to the film you can't help but expect the reveal to be similar, for the Twist Villain to be the same and there is certainly buildup for it but it turns out to be a red herring and I really like that bc it makes it so it's more a parallel to real life with how abusers will turn you against the people who you can actually trust in order to isolate you.
That's true! Great take, I very much agree. Kyoa is set up like Me-Mania, but he's just a paid actor embodying that role. Asuka is implied by Rikiya to be similar to Rumi, but she's not. Rikiya is using tropes found in media like Perfect Blue to weave his narrative, and players who are familiar with that story will likely be more likely to buy into it.
We all need an Asuka in our lives honestly. Also, capitalism and misogyny strike again! I love seeing those concepts talked about in games. I always eat it up. Modern horror is such a fun genre that often falls short (lookin' at all the new AI movies comin' out, i don't even wanna talk about it). Seeing a game that actually treats it well is so cool. I personally don't play many horror games bc I have the Lil' Bitch virus, but the genre of horror has always been fascinating to me. It brings up issues in society that need to be examined, and it can do it in an outlandish (Junji Ito) or totally believable (Parasocial) way. Ugh horror is so versatile and the way that the internet is progressing makes it so it can be reshaped into different fears of today. TLDR: so cool so cool so cool
Yeah horror is my favourite (as anyone can see from what I upload) for this reason, it’s a genre that allows creators to play around with concepts that can range from highly realistic and topical to outlandish and silly
@RatatTalks Totally! As someone who has been writing and creating stories for years now, horror is one of the best things to consume for ideas. Actually, I was about to practice my writing when I saw you uploaded, and I got very distracted very quickly
This is why Japanese horror just GETS me. It has overt commentary without really being too preachy about it. It trusts the audience to get the message while also being entertained by the media in question.
Honesty the relationship with media and its fans is disturbing. The entitlement the fans have about wanting information about celebrities is outrageous. Fans who want to know the idol when they don’t know anything about the fan. I feel like fans don’t realize they can enjoy the media / act their idol does without needing to know everything about the person/creator. The obsession too is about their glorification/ Idealization of the idol not even who they are. This game is just a fraction of what it feels like to be on the receiving line. Especially the isolation and paranoia like perfect blue. Realizing the people close to you can be the ones who make you feel terrible. This game for how short it is, has a long impactful message. I love how you explained it!!! ❤
This. Unfortunately there are people with mental issues who can't discern fact and fiction. The same people who believe TV hospital shows are actual doctors and I know it sounds strange and they are very very few of them in the world but once your fans start ranging ING the thousands you get a higher and higher chance of attracting one.
It becomes more disturbing depending on the culture of a country. In the west, the concept of parasocial relationships is much more known, and these days more celebrities are trying to set boundaries (like the recent chappell roan incident). There are still A LOT of incidents where fans are delusional, but at least there is a group of people who are trying to make them back off. But in Asian countries (Japan and Korea most notably) where idols aren't even allowed to have a personal life or else they'll get an insane amount of backlash??? In the vtuber sphere, for example (since it's the video topic), there are way too many vtubers who graduate due to slipping up they have a partner... Or even a crush. There is another game called "Needy Streamer Overload" that also does a good job of showing off the effects of parasocial relationships in the perspective of the idol. It's also made by a person who specifically researches on the topic. Play it if you enjoyed this one!
Just wanted to say for a correction. Having 10k+ followers on Twitch or other streaming sites is far bigger than UA-cam. So it will have a much bigger impact, compared to those with 100k+ subs on here.
Ahh thank you, I wasn’t too sure about that as I’m not that familiar with twitch, having thousands of concurrent live viewers did seem impressive but I wasn’t sure how comparable it is
@@RatatTalks Oh it's bad. Look into Twitch swatting and stalking as an example. It can get v e r y bad for streamers, especially at that amount of viewership/followers.
ive watched multiple playthroughs and commentaries on this game but i still cant get enough. my favorite genre of chilla’s art game is woman simulator indeed (hito kara is another rly good one). thanks for this vid !!
Great video, I liked how you explained the themes and theorized about things as the game was going on. I liked the style of video so much that I ended up checking other videos you have made (and subscribed, keep it up!) I haven't played this game before but one thing that really disappointed me despite the game being called "Parasocial" is how the main "evil" of this game, which seemed to be stalker ended up being a clingy ex and his weirdo family. The protagonist's privacy being violated along with being forced into doing things against her will again and again were terrifying moments, also along with her paranoia worsening more and more with reason because of all that happened and the people that watched her becoming more toxic, wanting to see her real face and not her avatar. Something that frustrated me while watching the video was how she kept being confronted with awful situations and weird occurrences and just going "oh... okay then." Chief amongst them was taking so long to go the police and when she got to it she ended up just talking to the weird "cop" that spoke to her previously instead of actually demanding to go inside there to make a complaint or going there anyways after that happened (also if someone pretended to be from the police and hung around their premises he'd be questioned pretty quickly, although I guess that that's just video game stuff). I'm not a woman though, and she just came out of a bad relationship and recently moved so I can't really blame her, but I have dealt with some of the things that this game presented before so this game really caught my attention. Her friend was amazing though, best girl really. She ended up still supporting her friend despite all that happened and they ended up still being as close, lovely!
I'm a woman who's been stalked, and the game was actually kinda realistic in a lot of ways. Nina's actions are pretty understandable. When I was being stalked by my psychotic ex friend, the cops did nothing I had people telling me it was no big deal, and I was causing drama over nothing. I'd never felt so alone, and I withdrew further and further away from people in general.
I think Nina does have a lot of traits that point to her behaviour being caused by truama in the prior relationship, but I didn't highlight it well enough. In her conversation with Rikiya she seems to freeze, and can only really get out one word responses. She routinely oversleeps, and forgets to feed herself almost every day, she's clearly in a very bad place, and that may muddy her ability to make decisions. It's not really an instance of her being a generic horror movie protagonist who doesn't make smart decisions, she's being made to do most of what she does under threat of blackmail, and that combined with her constant stress and clearly declining mental health probably makes her act in a way that seems unrealistic to an outside observer. Regarding the police, as I stated she is being fed a subconscious mistrust of the police via the games, and even Asuka comments on how they can't do certain things. Across the catalogue of games, such as The Closing Shift, Chillas Art routinely make the police out to be useless in these situations, so it's likely Nina shares the views of the writers on their efficacy. I get the point about the stalker being the ex not being true to the games title, but as I explained at the end, there is a lot of parasociality within Rikiya, despite him knowing Nina, and there is the possible explanation that Kyoa is also a fan, but that's entirely up for debate and there isn't a confirmed answer either way.
@@WobblesandBean Thank you for the insight (and I'm sorry to hear that you went through that!!), it's a shame to hear that. Seems like undermining what's actually going on is common in those cases, sadly.
@@RatatTalks Thanks for talking more about it, I hadn't played the game before and it's alright, you explained it quite well, I should've played the game to come to a better conclusion on it. She does seem to be traumatized and in a bad place, the game even happens right after she moved after all that happened. Her acting that way or rationalizing things definitely are a result of that, and she can't be blamed when so much was happening and getting even worse. I forgot about the police in one of the games that she played, and I can see how it'd affect her perception even more with all of that and now the games that she was forced to play and focus so much on. I felt that it was somewhat disappointing that the game was named that and the villain was someone that the protagonist previously interacted with, but you're right, I didn't previously consider it but parasocial isn't completely focused on something like a vtuber and the audience (as it was in this case) and it can come from many other places, beside, what we saw with Rikiya was indeed a parasocial relationship that he had with her, and the game still touched those themes head on. It was a great video on the game and it's good to see themes like that being explored and seen through that medium.
Please make more videos like this. I watched this while I was preparing and eating dinner. I also like the long intro and the deepdives within real world issues.
YO I looked away and you got that 10k! Congrats :) Don't pressure ourself too much to get a video out each week. I don't think that these days many people expect that sort of output from video essayists and the like. I think an interesting point as well is that especially in smaller communities, parasociality runs rampant (both ways) compared to bigger ones. Like they exist in both obviously but I think with smaller creators, viewers are more likely to assume their comments will be seen and responded to by said creator.
Thanks! Yeah I notice it in my community because I actually reply to comments, which means I need to be kind of parasocial with my own viewers which is weird but not unwelcome
Omg I literally just discovered your channel today with your Angela video, and while I was in the middle of watching your Until Dawn video this one uploaded, about another horror game I really enjoy, this just keeps getting better and better haha
Not sure how this came up in my recommends but this video is excellent. I'd never heard of this game before but it's appropriately terrifying and your summary and analysis are great!
I'm loving your videos and always get something great and novel out of them. Thank you for your hard work and good job on this one! I also wanted to say, thank you for being a refreshing force and bringing up how parasocial relationships can be positive and that the average person doesn't have to feel like a creep just for having some investment. Parasocial relationships are like any other relationships, they can be good or can be bad.
Thanks! I think a lot of the discourse online about parasocial relationships is pretty negative, even though most studies agree that it's a useful kind of bond that can help a lot with forming identities, developing social skills, and finding community. As a smaller creator the ongoing discussions I have with people who engage with me is crucial to my growth, and whilst I wouldn't describe these relationships as massively parasocial, I understand how they could be percieved as such.
For whatever reason, didn't realize you were the same guy who did the Lovesickness video until you mentioned it. No idea why I didn't sub back then, but I have now!
Just found your channel today- if the machine-mind of UA-cam has any sense of justice it will promote you more. This is my second video of yours and the sheer depth and quality of your work, with the effort in cultural contexts and periphery research supplementing your content is genuinely high calibre stuff. I think this makes your very fine work stand out and I will be watching a lot more.
Yall got such a soothing voice my guy ❤ I also love the sass regarding the buttons under the video - the one in the Until Dawn video always makes me giggle
I've been binge-listening to these videos and I'm like floored he has so few of them because all of his vids have been S tier and addresses video games and ways I have seen other commentators make. So many opinions I agree on and even ones I want to disagree because I have biases I just can't.
I just gotta say man, I recently discovered your content and you’ve easily become one of my favorite UA-camrs. I really look forward to more of your videos! 💕
I hope I can continue to make videos like this for the foreseeable future, thank you for this comment and your kind words, as well as for your supportive comments across the channel.
Was just going to comment saying this is a great, well researched video but saw a very funny comment I feel the need to counteract, I for one do not care how political you choose to get! Tbh its kind of funny having to put up that disclaimer before inferring the luke warm take that 'petty exes leading harassment campaigns is bad' but not for the entire section dedicated to homelessness and the political inadequacies of Japanese government. Idk who on earth is watching a video on the game parasocial but is ready to be angry at the mere mention of women's problems lol, but a very good video! I'd felt a bit weird about the stalker's role in the story but you summed up how i felt very well! He's a victim of circumstance but a perpetrator of a serious crime, and both can exist simultaneously.
Regarding the 'political' stuff, it's basically just trying to avoid most hot-button topics to minimise the number of weirdos in my comment sections. I've openly critiqued both capitalism and heterosexual bias throughout history on the channel, but neither of those things generated angry comments as much as simply saying words like 'representation' or 'cisgender'. So, I'm just trying to tread carefully around words that I know will set off a certain crowd, and Gamergate is one such word. It's an act of protecting my peace.
Another great video to draw too. The fear keeps and calm voice keeps me focused so thanks! If you are still looking for recommendations and a manga I'd like too suggest Delicious Dungeon!
I loved ur vids on the quarry and until dawn. im so glad you're making a video on the chillas art games. keep up the good work! thank u so much for the lovely videos.
That's weird I've found with vtubing the VAST majority of people respect that these creators do not want to reveal their faces. People will even avoid seeking out images when a vtubers faces is leaked without their permission. These fans value the immersion, too. some of them will get mad if their vtuber shows their face. So the people that demand for face reveals are generally only ever committed by the overly paras-ocial people in the fandoms.
That’s definitely true and part of why I made a point to say this is the exception and not the rule, for the most part immersion is pretty important to these fanbases, in clips I watched to research vtubers and authenticity some of them even did ‘immersion warnings’ prior to discussing any of their real life details.
I've played this recently and oh man--it's really good in making you paranoid. It's so ridiculously relatable with Nina struggling because a lot of these worries and concerns are daily life worries for women. Yeah you can be seen as just being paranoid but sometimes it's better safe than sorry. Alas, Nina shrugged off most things early on because she probably thought it's gonna be fine and she's just overreacting. (That and it's always been stupid that stalking cases are ignored unless there's 'big evidence') I legit just couldn't believe the lack of self-preservation on her end haha. I'm so glad it has a happy ending unlike the other ones ; w ; Also, regarding the first game--I can def see that as homelessness route but I honestly thought that it's less that and more on the fact that the person living in that space is SO hyperfixated on the vtuber that they'd let their home go into shambles but keep their PC maintained and high specs to keep watching their idol. 3 monitors and all. Which, I guess can lead to the homelessness due to that obsession! Also also, if you stare at the trash guy long enough, you'll see him go through the bin after you and grab the trash you just put in before running away with it. Or Rikiya the ex entering the convenience store, walking so close near you (or maybe I was just too close) before going in the toilet. Small things like these can be easily missed if you don't look at the right time and place. Which just adds more to the paranoia and fear. Thank you for the video! It's always so nice to hear other people's well put thoughts on it!
i'm curious if you've played/heard of fears to fathom. chilla's art games remind me of that series and apparently based on real-life situations that have actually happened. if you haven't I'd very much suggest doing so. would love to see you do a video essay on the same. no pressure though! we're still waiting patiently for the Little Hope video too!! :D
Heard of, never played. I watched a few videos on it a while back, but it's still sitting in my notes app backlog of games to get through, right under World of Horror. I love horror inspired by real situations, that's why I enjoy the first episode of Girl From Nowhere so much. I'll definitely get around to it, but when remains to be seen. Little Hope video is still in the scripting phase, I need to do a few more runs of it, and I'm also watching various adaptations of The Crucible as external research, so a lot of time is going into it and I hope it'll be good.
This is off topic but could you talk about house of ashes and what you think about it and it’s breakdown just like you did with quarry and man of Medan, I honestly think it’s the closest supermassive games had to the until dawn, and that they just needed that good subplot to cap it off because there main plot was amazing too me, but I would love to hear your thoughts
Hi, thanks for the comment. I’m currently in the process of editing my Little Hope video, after which I’ll begin playthroughs and scripting a video on House of Ashes. I plan to do the entire dark pictures anthology.
To be honest I wouldn’t even call the toxic, vindictive ex a modern phenomenon. The modern phenomenon is realising that treating women (in the context of a patriarchal, misogynistic society, but men can also be victims of the same things) like assets, objects and/or only extensions of oneself is wrong and that women are people too.
That’s certainly true, toxic exes have existed forever, but the uniquely online elements of this story are new, him targeting her career and exposing her private life online are both more modern things, although they’re arguably just modern evolutions of pre-existing stuff.
"I doubt they'd have poked in the fridge" Yeah as someone who has had more than one stalker, you're wrong and you should feel bad about this flippant remark. I'm gonna go find a woman who played this. I'm actually annoyed.
okay lmao calling Rukiya employing the homeless man in his crimes as the most "unambiguously evil" thing he does is such a hilariously bad opinion. Not that I'm not sympathetic to a homeless man but the evil done to him was done by society. Rukiya offered him a job that required him to fully know what kind of evil he was doing, and the guy willingly took it. He voluntarily signed on to terrorize an innocent woman for the sake of a man trying to trick her into a sexual relationship. The homeless man is not the real victim here!
Also big L on framing homelessness as a man's issue based on the same survey you rightfully criticize as uselessly undercounting people. Don't you think they might have gotten the gender ratio wrong by only counting people sleeping where they could easily be found? Can't you think of one or two reasons why women would be particularly less likely to do that? There's no social force that would make women less likely to be homeless, but plenty of gendered phenomenon that make being a woman sleeping in public where strangers can find you far more dangerous!
Thanks for the comment, yeah Kyoa is still a bad guy, I did say he was still guilty, but maybe I played up how much of a victim he was. He does still do an evil thing, but for me that’s because he likely doesn’t have much choice. Your comment on the survey makes sense, and I agree, I don’t believe homelessness is an entirely male phenomenon, however from everything I read about homelessness in Japan it does seem to be viewed as a largely male issue there, perhaps due to the connotations that men are expected to be workers and most homelessness is caused by economic factors. Again, this isn’t a fact, we just don’t have the numbers to draw any conclusions due to how poorly done the census is. I’ll take the L there, the study should not be taken seriously or used to draw any real conclusions tbh. I agree that Kyoa is the victim of a societal evil, but I was framing Rikiya as part of the problem, he’s someone who embodies a large number of societal issues, I view him as allegorical to them. He’s a microcosm for numerous real world issues that exist on a wider scale; stalking, toxic relationships, parasociality, and yes economic disparity and victimisation of the poor by those who don’t much care about them. Kyoa does evil things, but he’s still a victim, albeit a less sympathetic one than Nina.
Loads of comments about Yakuza here. I love the series, no clue how I forgot to bring it up. I even referenced the series in this video. No clue how I forgot it haha
I love the Yakuza series and totally didn't make that connection, both 7 and Infinite Wealth have pretty interesting looks at it through Ichi now that I'm thinking about it.
22:31 those vtubers are actually patreons! If you support the game enough you get i cluded luke this. In every game you can find items like this Also, the guy at the bins outside actually also steals your trash too
They also do pretty interesting looks into it to a lesser extent with infinite wealth and even the man who erased his name, I just totally forgot to mention it despite literally having a yazuka reference in this video haha
I took the image from Rikiyas villains wiki page gallery (villains.fandom.com/wiki/Rikiya_Miyamoto ), and used the font used in Chillas Arts promotion for all of their games. I wasn't aware of the video by John Wolfe (I've never watched him before). That said, it's extremely similar, so I can see how you'd think that, and having seen his I'm actually going to change mine because I really don't want to be accused of stealing beyond this. That one hbomberguy plagarism video informs all my decisions online.
Ok so the part where one of her chat members makes the comment about how they go to Chilla's "too", I don't believe it was the person who was in the store and took the photo. I believe he posted it online or shared it in a chat of some kind with other fans. This fan making the comment in chat saw the image, which the person would have shared with telling them where it was taken and is now bringing it up in chat by acknowledging they go there as well. It's a lot like the point you make about how "I Love Nina" is trying to "bond" with her, but by crossing serious boundaries. Often these kinds of people don't see those boundaries, even when confronted. The person in chat likely doesn't see it as crossing a boundary either, which is why they are so casual about addressing where this digital idol goes to in their private, offline life. They don't see or they don't acknowledge the line when they cross it.
Not now society, a video essayist with a single word channel name just uploaded a feature length video about a horror game I have never heard of but that I will soon be incredibly invested in
My work is done
My last two years summed up in a comment
Thought I was the only one 😂😂 I live for this kind of content

I agree heavily on mascot horror being way too prevalent, whilst I adknowledge it has its place it really doesn't do it for me beyond, like, the first four FNAF games.
Well guess I don't really need to watch the remaining one hour and 15 seconds of the video now
I like how opposed to some other video essay UA-camrs who mostly summarize the games they cover, with every single video I’ve watched from you I’ve seen true deep analysis of the content.
Yeah, it's not fun. Cops won't do anything about it, either.
Definitely explains a lot
I'm not sure I could actually play through any of their games since stalking is a mayor fear of mine and I'd wind up being incredibly paranoid for weeks after, but I'm really glad they're focusing on this subject matter
Especially when they seem to do it with so much nuance and understanding
And frankly it freaking me out that much means they hit the mark with what they were trying to do. Frankly one of the highest compliment you can give art
i love the theory that rikiya is the stalker. because while many people have a perception that stalkers are often strangers, the unfortunate reality is that stalking most often occurs between people who know each other. this game (and video essay) does a great job highlighting and representing the gendered horror and objectification women endure.
...it's not a theory, it's the canon.
Let's go youtube knows what i want hour long video about subjects I know nothing about.
Certified algorithm classic
Sometimes the algorithm does a thing to fight the short term attention span and brain rot
I'm with you, I'm way too scared to watch/play much horror, but I really love watching youtube videos dissecting them, it's such a versatile medium!
Play it if you enjoyed this one!
was just watching another video of yours, so seeing this uploaded right when I finished it was insane timing
Content mill got you covered
Good lord XD Is that the Doki Doki Literature Club theme/OST cuz bruh that’s next level
Yeah lol
Hope you had a nice meal, I’ll definitely look to discuss more socially conscious horror down the line
Thanks! Glad it made it to your recommends!
the DDLC music awakened a Primal Fear in me oh my god i completely forgot about that game
Just Monica
Better late than never hehe
Just found your channel today- if the machine-mind of UA-cam has any sense of justice it will promote you more. This is my second video of yours and the sheer depth and quality of your work, with the effort in cultural contexts and periphery research supplementing your content is genuinely high calibre stuff. I think this makes your very fine work stand out and I will be watching a lot more.
Thanks!
the game is literally a woman simulator, its so scary because it happens every day
Yall got such a soothing voice my guy ❤ I also love the sass regarding the buttons under the video - the one in the Until Dawn video always makes me giggle
I loved this game so much when it came out last year and this gave me an even deeper appreciation of it
By far my new favourite game annalise channel, so sad when I found out there's not alot videos, looking forward to more
I hope you make more videos like this one. I appreciate your perspective and opinions here.
I hope I can continue to make videos like this for the foreseeable future, thank you for this comment and your kind words, as well as for your supportive comments across the channel.
I find it amazing you were able to talk about this game for longer than it takes to actually play through it.
Great video!
CEO of Yapping RatatUA-cam here
Was just going to comment saying this is a great, well researched video but saw a very funny comment I feel the need to counteract, I for one do not care how political you choose to get!
It's an act of protecting my peace.
i would love to see videos about other games from chilla s art.
I'd love to make more!
Another great video to draw too. The fear keeps and calm voice keeps me focused so thanks!
If you are still looking for recommendations and a manga I'd like too suggest Delicious Dungeon!
All my friends absolutely love Dungeon Meshi, but I've yet to read it...
When I do read it I doubt it'll get a video, but I guess we'll see!
I loved ur vids on the quarry and until dawn. im so glad you're making a video on the chillas art games. keep up the good work! thank u so much for the lovely videos.
I've been a fan of Chillas Art for the last few years, hoping to discuss more when I'm caught up on the backlog of planned videos I have
You have the honor of being the video I choose while I’m eating, I shall enjoy
This is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon me, and I thank you
I more or less just started the video but I did laugh out loud with delight to hear the Whirling-Inn Rags track playing hahah
I absolutely adore Disco Elysium so had to fit the OST into one of the videos
Great video!!
Thanks Sailor Star Lesbian!
This video was SOOOO good!!! Nothing I enjoy more than someone analysing a niche horror game 🤙
Thank you!
So excited to watch this! This is one of my favorite Chilla's Art games and I really like your videos!!
Hope you enjoy
This channel is so underrated
Thanks!
Thank you for the cool analysis !
Subbed yesterday after watching your Dark Pictures videos and already getting another game I enjoy? I really lucked out stumbling on you haha
Ratat Situation truly is crazy
Anyway that’s about it, seeya
Healing Whirling-In-Rags, 8 AM at the background i've already known that i will watch this whole 1 hour video
I've played this recently and oh man--it's really good in making you paranoid. It's so ridiculously relatable with Nina struggling because a lot of these worries and concerns are daily life worries for women. Yeah you can be seen as just being paranoid but sometimes it's better safe than sorry. Alas, Nina shrugged off most things early on because she probably thought it's gonna be fine and she's just overreacting. (That and it's always been stupid that stalking cases are ignored unless there's 'big evidence') I legit just couldn't believe the lack of self-preservation on her end haha. I'm so glad it has a happy ending unlike the other ones ; w ;
Also, regarding the first game--I can def see that as homelessness route but I honestly thought that it's less that and more on the fact that the person living in that space is SO hyperfixated on the vtuber that they'd let their home go into shambles but keep their PC maintained and high specs to keep watching their idol.
I like the obsession angle with the first game, it’s very in line with the stereotypical obsessive fan, again like Perfect Blue
Really cool channel keep going 😎👍
Thanks, will do!
Thank you so much for such an informative and interesting video.
Kinda wish I hadn’t watched this and just played the game for myself now.
I warned you!
would recommend playing Closing Shift, another horror game made by the same creators with a similar atmosphere!
Imwas just watching you yesterday and subscribed, happy to see this upload!!
i'm curious if you've played/heard of fears to fathom. chilla's art games remind me of that series and apparently based on real-life situations that have actually happened. if you haven't I'd very much suggest doing so. would love to see you do a video essay on the same. no pressure though! we're still waiting patiently for the Little Hope video too!!
Little Hope video is still in the scripting phase, I need to do a few more runs of it, and I'm also watching various adaptations of The Crucible as external research, so a lot of time is going into it and I hope it'll be good.
another great video
Woohoo, a video essay about horror games, my favorite dinner
Scrumptious
Yakuza reference had me howling 😂😂😂😂
Ha. I went to subscribe because you described the like and dislike buttons as "favorable" and "unfavorable" but it turns out I was already subscribed.
Thank you for the continued favorable interactions.
good video, guess you could say im always watching you 😼😼

This is off topic but could you talk about house of ashes and what you think about it and it’s breakdown just like you did with quarry and man of Medan, I honestly think it’s the closest supermassive games had to the until dawn, and that they just needed that good subplot to cap it off because there main plot was amazing too me, but I would love to hear your thoughts
Hi, thanks for the comment. I’m currently in the process of editing my Little Hope video, after which I’ll begin playthroughs and scripting a video on House of Ashes. I plan to do the entire dark pictures anthology.
HEALTH mentioned
Ratat do you have any plans to cover Supermassive’s new “The Casting of Frank Stone”? I would love to see you make a video on this game
I’ve got some plans to do it down the line, probably after I’ve finished my dark pictures anthology analysis series.
Leaving a comment for the UA-cam algorithm, really nice video tho I enojoyed it!
all my favorite games & topics, it’s like you’re reading my mind with all of these videos!!! thank you for your service 🫡🫡🫡
@@RatatTalks also great video by the way, forgot to mention it. Always a joy.
Was that song at 2:55 from Disco Elysium? I could literally hear the next few notes in my head afterwards. So if it's not it is the same little beat.

You should checkout the mad max game
"I doubt they'd have poked in the fridge"
Yeah as someone who has had more than one stalker, you're wrong and you should feel bad about this flippant remark.
I'm gonna go find a woman who played this. I'm actually annoyed.
My apologies for the remark, it came from a place of ignorance. I'm sorry for your situation, too.
I LOVE U RATAT
Thank you friend of the channel akechimimi
okay lmao calling Rukiya employing the homeless man in his crimes as the most "unambiguously evil" thing he does is such a hilariously bad opinion.
Another Japanese game that portrays homelessness is Judgement, the Yakuza spin-off
Loads of comments about Yakuza here. I love the series, no clue how I forgot to bring it up. I even referenced the series in this video. No clue how I forgot it haha
Me and the homies hate rikya
Hate that guy!
❤❤❤
If you want to see japanese media acknowledge homelessness, give Like a Dragon 7 a chance!
I love the Yakuza series and totally didn't make that connection, both 7 and Infinite Wealth have pretty interesting looks at it through Ichi now that I'm thinking about it.
Emirichu cameo!
It cost me my life savings but we got her for the video
Can you do a thriller stalker movie called door (1988), it’s a really good movie
I'll happily watch the movie, but making a video probably not, film footage is hard to get around copyright filters

Also, the guy at the bins outside actually also steals your trash too
I knew the supporter thing, I had some text on screen about it. Didn't know about the trash hahah what
You mentioned Japanese games about exploitation of the homeless/poor? Yakuza 7.
They also do pretty interesting looks into it to a lesser extent with infinite wealth and even the man who erased his name, I just totally forgot to mention it despite literally having a yazuka reference in this video haha
If it's worth paying for, it's worth putting in the effort to pirate it instead
aa - skuh
I did say I was pretty awful at languages, my pronounciation of non-English words is terrible and I'm aware of it.
Did your steal that thumbnail form John Wolfe’s video? Lol
So you can "start" forming paranormal relationships..? I thought our friendship was enough for you but I guess I was wrong 😔💔💔💔
That’s more than parasocial bro we’re besties
@RatatTalks And just like that friendship meter restored 💚💚💚. You always know just what to say to cheer me up 😋

The joys of being in the highly elite 2.9% of viewers who are subscribed to
Ok so the part where one of her chat members makes the comment about how they go to Chilla's "too", I don't believe it was the person who was in the store and took the photo.
Yeah but avatar-based UA-camrs are cringe ASF. Especially the furry ones.
Please don't become political. Politics no matter the side ruins everything good in the world.
