  • During our visit to Herolds Bay on the Garden Route of South Africa, we were greeted with spectacular scenery as we drove through the caravan park. The lush green grass, chirping birds, and big trees were a sight to behold. As we made our way to the beach, we noticed food trucks lined up, selling delicious ice cream and a variety of other tasty treats. The air was filled with the delicious smell of food. I decided to take a leisurely stroll along the beach in search of shells that Sonia used to collect as a child. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was soothing, and I was captivated by the breathtaking view. We eventually stumbled upon two tidal pools with crystal clear water, which was a welcome sight. Across from the tidal pool, we saw a beautiful old Catholic Church, which piqued our curiosity. So I decided to take a closer look and was pleasantly surprised to find someone praying inside. It was a serene and peaceful atmosphere, and it added to the already-fantastic experience. To top it all off, we made our way up the hill to catch a glimpse of the spectacular view of Herolds Bay from the top. The view was simply breathtaking, and it left us in awe of the beauty of the Garden Route. All in all, our visit to Herolds Bay was an incredible experience that we will cherish forever. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #heroldsbay

Can hardly believe there are still such clean places left in the country. The people there are clearly proud of their surroundings.

The cleanliness here was very obvious and the many workers around testimony to the town wanting to keep their environment clean and tidy. It was fantastic to see and an example to so many other places in this beautiful country of ours. 🇿🇦🗑️

W😮W, what an incredible experience, thank-you for taking us along...absolutely stunning Herold's Bay most definitely is. I have to agree with your previous reply, there's just so much to choose from, obviously if one is fortunate enough to be able to afford to live in these incredible places. Just think of it, one can go for a swim in the tidal pool and walk across the road to praise the Lord or just to sit in such a beautiful church without a shirt. That Monate Estate was definitely the highlight, what an incredible place...paradise...the other incredible homes too. Those small beach cottages that one finds always facing the sea are all that one needs though. 👍 Just looked on Property 24, prices are astonishing, the area has definitely bounced back.

There is zero doubt that this entire coastline is prime real estate and rightly so! The unspoilt beauty is simply endless and it was fantastic to visit these places which we knew, but also didn't know, if that makes sense. 🚙🤩 One is seriously spoilt for choice if you decide to make this part of the Garden Route your home, I know Sonia and I won't be able to decide easily if we should decide to relocate one day! 😉 Monate was a next-level place, to think that it's basically on a mountain made of trees is just incredible! 🌳 I also thought the location of the Catholic Chapel was just fantastic. 💒 We actually chatted to the gentleman who was praying when he came outside. He lives in George with his children and comes to Herolds Bay during the week to swim (and pray). He says it gets crazy busy over weekends and one struggles to find parking, which I can easily believe. It was fantastic having you along for the drive through Herolds Bay! We'll see you soon again!

The fact that it is still so beautiful despite all the new development, really goes to show how much consideration the folks in that part of our country have given to interrupt nature as little as possible. And in return they get to live in this paradise of a place! It's gorgeous in every possible way! 🌳🌊 I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed today's outing, it was a lot of fun! 🚙😁

It certainly is a stunning beach. I remember going there once or twice. I think it is the surf spot for George. But could be wrong. There were parts that I recognize, and others I didn't. But you always drive around the hood and make it interesting. The view from the top... WOW!!!

    • @DustBugsTravel

I think you're right. The gentleman we saw in church, was from George. He says a lot of folks come from George to swim, and most probably surf, in Herolds Bay since it's so close. They're lucky to live in such a gorgeous part of the country. Hi you two! Thank you for the outing in Herold's Bay under the blue skies with the blue sea. The Garden Route is becoming more and more interesting and spectacular. To live in Herold's Bay must be ongoing daily joy!
The beach is not very long, but much wider than most of the others we've seen so far. Incredible. The tidal pool so clear that one can see the fish swimming!
I really like the town being so spread out and covered in in greenery over the hills. That Estate is even more unique.
Thank you for taking me along. I'll be spending this evening watching this video again!

Herolds Bay is a stunning place from the bottom at the ocean to the top at Monate and the other residences. You're right, it must be year-round joy for the folks who live in such beauty, as well as for the holidaymakers who get to spend some time there! The crystal clear waters of the tidal pool had me mesmerised! 🌊🐟🐠 The beach is very wide, I can only imagine the sight if it's packed full of umbrellas and sunbathers! 🏖️ I'm glad to hear Herolds Bay made such an impression on you that you'd watch it twice! 🤩 We see you again in two days' time! 🚙

Thank you for your most kind comment. Herolds Bay is most certainly a place the rest of our beautiful country can look to as an example, it's truly stunning there and super clean! 🚙🤩 The tourism industry will understandably only focus on the positives and the beautiful, while we prefer to show exactly what we find and see in a place on the random day we visit. That's a truer reflection of a place in our view. 🤷‍♂️ There is still so much beauty in some of the decay we see, but I'm not quite sure they'll see it that way.

Wow, the place has really changed!! We lived in Herolds Bay in 1993 up on the hill in Skuinsbank Street and had a beautiful view over the beach and towards Voëlklip. So many memories with oom Willie and tannie Sophie as next door neighbours, also oom Hennie and tannie Mona across the road, other friends who were also Theron but not family, plus the Sunday Church services with Ds Marinkowich (not sure about the spelling now). Interesting to hear about the shells! Sonia's family must've gone to Herolds Bay more often from George than to the other beaches you mention, that's most probably why she remembers them only being at Herolds Bay. 🐚🥰 I have no doubt that this place too has doubled, if not quadrupled, in size since the seventies. It's still very beautiful though and that's a wonderful thing! 🌊🌳

I have only once been to Herolds Bay, and it was back in 1993, we stayed over in a little motel on the way down to Cape Town. It was only a very tiny place back then. When we got into bed, we found they hadnt changed the sheets since the last people had slept in them. They were filthy! My pillow stank of greasy hair. Yuckkkk! I wanted to go complain but my husband was tired and we had just got the babies into bed so we toughed it out for the night. Next morning we were all scratching! Scabies!!! Liewe Here!!! An appalling experience. The place has changed so much I wouldnt recognise it. Glad your experience was good. Stella maris means star of the sea. Beautiful church.

“Let’s see where the road takes us”, oftewel jullie heerlijke ‘reis stijl’ in een notendop!

Thank you for watching our video of Herolds Bay! 🚙🤩 We include in our videos exactly what we find and see on the random day we arrive in a town or place. I'm not sure the opposite of beauty is scary for us, but we've included some serious decay, decline and neglect in many of the 300+ videos on our channel. You have some serious catching up to do! 😁 Fortunately some beauty always remains though and that will always be our focus. As far as the Free State goes, we've made one trip to the province so far and have explored the southern part. You're welcome to go and check those videos out in Episodes 200 to 220. We'll most definitely return, but as we're getting further and further away from home, time and distance become more complex to navigate sucessfully in the week we get to travel each time. I hope you enjoy the ones you haven't seen yet.

Yours is the first comment out of 300 videos that refer to the focus on our footage. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I film with my regular everyday cellphone on autofocus and film out of the car window, so an insect may fly by or something like that. I'm not too fussed about that though. Our videos aren't meant to be perfect, they're how my wife and I document our travels and share them with folks who don't mind little imperfections and purely enjoy the content! 😁🚙

Herolds Bay is less than 50km from Mossel Bay and less than 15km from George. There will be no shortage of hospitals and clinics in the area, both state and private. 🚑🏥

Great video as usual, thanks. Quick question, did that big white hotel really face the caravan park, and not the sea?

Thank you, I'm glad you also enjoyed Herolds Bay! 👌🏻 You saw the big white (which we now think is an) apartment building exactly as we saw it when we were driving out of the caravan park, so it's definitely facing the caravan park and not the ocean. 😁🚙

This is where I bought the worst tasting hamburger from a hawker stall in 64 years.

Other viewers say they ate the best ice cream there, perhaps you should try that next time! 😁🍦
