    GP5 - amzn.to/3nKktsf (this is the most comfortable grip by far, it adds 2 extra hand positions)
    Check out my comparison video here: ua-cam.com/video/yMEdV-j68M8/v-deo.html

    I have the same grips (just got them). First ride with them was last night (25 miles). It was really nice to have a different position when my hands started to cramp. It really helped with my cramps a ton. Just being able to reposition for a couple minutes was a huge help.

    GP5looks the most interesting to me. I got a Merida Speeder 300 fitness bike. What bothers me is that the Ergon site says the gp4 and gp5 are only for touring and for fitness bikes they only go up to gp3? Having 1 finger not fitting on the grip sounds uncomfortable to me.

    Bar ends makes me nervous about clipping onto railings/bushes, have fallen off my bike twice clipping my regular handle bar between the gaps in railings on a narrow path when making way for other cyclist coming from the opposite direction

    I just installed this exact grip on a new bike. The original grips came off easily with the use of a pressurized air hose. The new grips slid on nicely, but the new grips rotate and slid off. What is the recommended way to make the new grips stay in place?

    Hi, before buying (as they are costly - understably, sure and i want them) it looks like you can slide them up the tube/bar of the handlebar. Can you? I have a 22.2 mm Kyote bar, and i want to fit 2 grips in line on each side. As internal/inner bar ends. Could you please confirm? I'm interested in these gp5 because of the short gripshift version. I know i could just fit some barends/internal barends near the centre of the handlebar, but i want (need) also the grips to lean my hands on. Pleeease helpppp 😁😁😁 (and thanks so much i'll follow your other rreviews :) )

    • @petergilbert72
      @petergilbert72 Рік тому +1

      Not really - if you get Ergon GP3, 4 or 5 the horn (short on the 3, long on the 5) limits how wide your hand can go. On the GP1 and 2 it’s comfortable to allow your hand to overlap the end of the grip while still using the palm cushion so that gives more width. On the GP4 and 5 you can grab the horn from the outside which gives width but not great control. More something to do for a change of position on a long ride. Btw Ergon make small and large versions for different hand sizes.

    I see that you use a rearview mirror on the left side below the handlebar, I use a cat's eye mirror that comes out of the side of the handlebar, but I see that if I use the GP5 then I would lose vision when taking the grips in the second position or middle position , What is your opinion?

    • @BikeCommuterHero
      @BikeCommuterHero  3 роки тому +1

      That's true, but what if you don't want a butterfly handlebar, just another hand position? It's not cheap, but it makes riding a lot more comfortable.

      @@BikeCommuterHero I think there's lots of alternatives to this with similar if not better quality. I understand premium products can charge premium prices but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

    • @BikeCommuterHero
      @BikeCommuterHero  3 роки тому

      I agree. There are certain products I wouldn't consider buying just because of the price tag. Each one needs to draw the line for himself depending on needs, wants and budget constraints.
      As for the better budget alternatives, I'd love if you could recommend some so I could check them out and maybe even compare them. I own a few other bar end grips at lower price points, but I've found these the most comfortable so far.

      The GP series goes from the GP1 to the GP5, increasing the size of the horns. GP1 = no horns, GP5 = biggest horns, as seen in this video. He's got a video of the GP4 here: ua-cam.com/video/hf22csB1Ivw/v-deo.html

    • @BrianRPaterson
      @BrianRPaterson Рік тому

      Bear in mind, the cheap ones for sale on sites like AliExpress look the same as the Ergon grips, but they aren't identical.
      for example, the Ali ones use different materials.The rubber in the palm rests isn't as soft, which might make a difference to comfort and how much shock they absorb.
      Also, the clamps that lock the grip onto the bar aren't as nicely made and are harder to use. The allen bolt heads are smaller and hidden under a bit of rubber.
      On the Ergon grips, the allen heads are nice and big, so you get more purchase and the wrench is less likely to slip out or round off the bolt. They also face up on top of the grip (at least the way I have mine set up), so you can get at them easily to make adjustments.
      I've had Ergon's for six months and love them to bits. I just got a set of Chinese ones, so I can't tell you if the difference is enough to justify the more expensive price. But, there is definitely a difference.
      Cheers

      @@StarxPlayz7 Sometimes you get lucky, other times not. I've just received a Chinese-made, alloy out-front mount for my Garmin which is great. It puts the computer just where i want it and clamps up nice and tight. All for about US$11.
      But, when it comes to grips, I think I'll stick to the originals. They're more comfortable and I think they'll last a bit longer.
      If yours keep coming loose, try some loc-tite on the bolts. It might do the trick!
      Cheers

    Another reason not to buy these is because it is ridiculous that the bar-ends are not sold seperately. Many bikes come with GP1 grips and there is no way to upgrade. Just unkind to customers and environment alike.

    • @BrianRPaterson
      @BrianRPaterson Рік тому

      I have a set of Ergon GP1 grips which don't come with bar ends. But, you can easily buy a set of cheap bar ends for a few bucks and fit them to your bar.
      I had a set in my parts box and they work fine for me.
      Frankly, I don't like the look of the Ergon ends very much. I'm sure they are very well engineered, but they all look too short to get a decent grip if you want to stand up and crank the pedals.
