Hands down the BEST informative video I have seen out of many! I appreciate the way you explain and articulate each avenue of injury, cause of pain, and remedy to cure. THANK YOU!!!
I think this video has provided more information than visiting 3 orthopedic surgeons and 3 physiotherapists. I have had tennis elbow for 2+ years and I wish I came across this when my pain just started. 🙏
Thank you for this, it is great. The only thing missing, and its a big one, is sleep position. I read that most tennis elbow pain is at its worse in the early hours of the morning. If you are a side sleeper, it could be aggravating the injury.
To me you have done a very in depth and informative and helpful video about this topic and Thankyou so much for the time and effort you put into this. I’m not in a financial position to be able to afford physio treatment as I would like to be so Thankyou for the insight and advice. I know god will bless you and your family with prosperity for your generosity. Many thanks from Perth Western Australia.
I used red light therapy and has made a massive difference. Do it correctly and get a real red light panel it heals so much. Inc collegen for face. Speeds up healing too.
I've got it from badminton, really bad injury which limits weight training and most sports plus it affects sleep as you feel pain moving arm around whilst asleep
Great video, thank you. If I may suggest an improvement; to put 'marker' 'indexes' on the progress bar that are 'in sync' with the graphics you show. Many other YT vids I have seen employ these. As I recall they have visible 'markers' in the progress bar, and when you mouse hover over then a tiny pop up window appears to that tells you what subject change that 'marker' indicates. And this allows the viewer to jump to a particular area in the video for review, etc.. Wish I knew HOW to do this, but as a viewer and not a creator, I hope that may already be a concept known to you. Also, more 'under the skin' images of the layout and structure of the areas involved would help. Thanks again for a great video. I appreciate that you go from A to Z instead of just hitting on part of the overall subject.
now that you mention collagen. Maybe I add some to my diet. I’m 48 years old woman and I have tennis elbow for a year. Cortisone shot helped for 6 months but the pain came back about 2 months ago, this time I tried manual therapy and stretching which made it worse. Now don’t know what to do. Maybe I Rest it, take NSAIDs, use a splint while working and eventually start gently messaging, exercising and stretching when the pain is way less. What do you think Maryke?
Collagen might help, but the research on the matter is rather scant. Here's an article that I wrote about supplements for the Achilles tendon, but the info applies to other tendinopathies as well. www.treatmyachilles.com/post/supplements-that-can-help-achilles-tendinopathy
Thank you. I have had tennis elbow for almost two years now. During a lockdown I overdid the arm exercise weights at home. I have had X-ray, Scan and steroid injection. I don’t think it will ever go. I am a cleaner so it’s hard to rest as if I don’t work I don’t get paid. Does heat or cold therapy help for chronic long term pls, and which is best
Heat and cold can help with pain management - it doesn't matter which one you use - go for the one that provides the best symptom relief. You may also find that using a tennis elbow strap can be useful during work.
Dear Maryke - Thank you SO MUCH for the very best video I've seen on the subject of "tennis elbow" and I've watched a ton of them. It's approaching one year for me and I feel as if I am finally turning the corner on it (I am a musician and the condition really affected my ability to play trombone and upright bass). Have begun to work on strengthening as well as continuing with some stretching. MY QUESTION is - do you ever recommend using the "Flexbar" as a tool for recovering from tennis elbow? I've purchased a red one (light tension) at the advice of a number of other physio-therapists, and wonder what your take is on their use. Thanks again! Sincerely (with many thanks), Bob Samborski (Chicago, IL - USA, April 20, 2023)
Hi Bob, yes a flex bar can work - it can just sometimes be easy to overdo it if your wring too hard to try and quantify it for yourself e.g. not as hard as you can but start with about 40% effort and move up over time.
Great info! Glad I have found your channel! As a perimenopause female who has been struggling with tennis elbow - is there any evidence that supports supplementing ones diet with collagen can help speed recovery?
These videos are about Achilles tendons but the same apply to other tendons in body. The first one is about supplements: ua-cam.com/video/HMpcNOUhS14/v-deo.html This one is about HRT: ua-cam.com/video/xPedFMWaI3Y/v-deo.html
Mine does not hurt from lifting my wrist but from lifting my arm and also straitening my arm out in front of me or (especially) making a fist. It feels like I banged and bruised my elbow but I didn't and it's worse after hiking quite a few hours and it's a little better the next day but not 100% better. When it really hurts after a hike I can barely lift my hand to my face. Never had anything like this before. Lifting my wrist is just about the only thing that does NOT make it hurt. It came on suddenly three weeks ago and is getting worse. It's right in the joint between the two bumps. Does not hurt when I do a pushup . . . very strange.
I am going on the 3rd month since this began. Pain has become unbearable to the point of just about crying. I cannot sleep any more, I can't grip or lift anything and pain has worsened to the point where it has now spread to my shoulder! The pain is now traveling from my left shoulder all the way down to my hands. It's throbbing so fiercely and no longer know what to do! I have an elbow brace but, if I tighten it even a little bit the pain intensifies. 😪 When should I see a therapist? I'm struggling to straighten out my arm it hurts so much and it is very swollen.
Sounds like you could really benefit from seeing a physiotherapist immediately - your case sounds as if you may actually have nerve involvement and they can test for that and give you exercises and treatment to help calm that down.
I used to do a lot of pushups. I gained some weight and now when I do pushups and overhead pressing with weight, I have immense pain in one elbow. I didn't feel pain resisting when elevating my fist or pulling the fingers you showed. I think it could be related to neck tightness as you described. Should this then be a massage treatment or chiropractor for neck/ shoulder? Thanks
You may actually be better off seeing a physio because it might be that you need to adapt your technique etc. and they can provide advice on that + massage if needed. Manipulations won't really provide and lasting solution to this.
Bit when your in sooo much pain I just want it to stop!!!!!!! What if you do injections and PT...it hurts so much and has caused now biceps tendonosis!!!!
If the pain is that awful then an injection may be useful - we always have to weight up the benefits vs. risk and it sounds as if for you it may be beneficial.
Tennis elbow can make the affected arm lose muscle (which can make that arm look more skinny) if you are not using it as normal , but it won't affect the rest of your body.
Maam can u please help me out with this issue ... i have tennis elbow in both my hands and my left hand is doing well with no pain even after the exercises ... but since I am a college student, I need to work a lot on computer and it causes pain in the right elbow. even when I wear a brace. now the pain is not severe its very little but it persists and makes me uncomfortable. Does that pain mean I am worsening my elbow's condition? i am doing exercises for both my hands ... but most of the time I need to apply ice on my right hand ... Please help me out of this issue
I think i have this issue. i have pain in my elbow when i extend my arm during chest press. I will deload and use lighter weight instead. I wonder if it is ok to keep exercise with light weight as long as i no longer feel pain during workout? is it good enough for deload or i need to rest my arm completely?
Try deload first - if it then remains painful and you don’t see any change then you may have to stop completely for a week or two and then slooooowly load it again.

Yes, but what sleep position do you find works? I find it is so tricky because we move at night but a straighter elbow is often more comfortable.
This is so useful and well presented. Thank you.

Sorry, we don't share transcripts.

Hi great video. ❤
I don’t feel pain when doing the wrist extension, but feel pain with the pronation, is that different to tennis elbow?
Pain with pronation is usually something else. Tennis elbow causes pain with supination.
A real and excellent therapeutic approach, nice done
Could you please make an video how to rest properly for those who have tennis elbow? Thank you so much!
I've put it on the list

It may be time to have it assessed and make sure it is not something else causing your pain.
That doesn't sound like tennis elbow. Mine is on the fleshy part right above the first bump and going down the forearm.

would you recommend to stop swimming activities to heal from tennis elbow ?
Many thanks

Hi there,
Here's our video about when and how to apply ice for injuries: ua-cam.com/video/U_9gjff7ICU/v-deo.html
FYI I thought I had severe golfer's elbow.. Turned out to be Lyme Disease which can be deadly.
informative...thanks.
What a fab video

makes sense maybe i can apply to not just tennis elbow? i need a brace in life

I have a burning sensation in my elbow. It's driving me nuts.
Burning is usually linked to nerve injuries.
@@SportsInjuryPhysio interesting. Any remedies for it?
