Binaural ASMR Beer Review 16 - Hoegaarden, Gas Mask - Dedicated to the Military & Casualties of War

  • This episode is dedicated to those serving, and who have served, in the military across the globe, both past and present, to their families, and to the casualties of war. While I am personally against war for various reasons some of them obvious, I support the individuals who are good people and serve for all the right reasons. The sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, fathers and mothers, from the cooks to the soldiers on the front lines, who are part of a service where many put their lives at risk, where many have lost their lives, where many have ended up with disabilities, and where many have lost loved ones. To them, I raise my glass and offer my undying gratitude, my deepest sympathies and my best wishes.
In this video I review Hoegaarden, a Belgian Wheat beer and one of my favorites. I am wearing my in-ear binaural microphones as I explore the aural textures of the gas mask and its accessories that I acquired for use as a prop in future video projects. I also nibble on some Goldfish pretzels.
For those stumbling upon this video that may be new to my channel, it's to provide a relaxing, calming experience for the viewer and to trigger ASMR.
The buzzing sound is due to interference with my microphones that occurred during recording that I didn't know about until afterwards. So unfortunately there isn't much I can do. Hopefully its not too bothersome.
Thanks for watching and for your support.
    All the best,
    - ER

The hood is supposed to be tightly bound over the lenses , the filter/breathing holes, and the mouthpiece to shield the wearer's head from sprayed chemical agents. The bag is designed to be worn around the waist, the hip, on the back, etc. to be able to fit comfortably and be easily accessible along with all of the other gear a soldier would carry. You scored a great deal at $30 E.R! This is the type of mask that we used from the Vietnam War up through the 90s. It had three variations the M17, M17A1, AND M17A2. Awesome mask E.R. and great video! The respect from you to Veterans is much appreciated , I will be going that way real soon as a Future Marine. My grandfather was a Marine and so were a few of my cousins. Along with them I have a lot of other family in the military and I'm glad to hear the support. Thanks for the great videos and if you want anymore help with gas masks or any other military or military history info. I'd be glad to help! It's all I've studied for my whole life. Anyway thanks E.R. and I look forward to future videos!

Currently in the Navy. We may not see combat nowadays (save corpsmen) but 9 months with rarely a phone call home and 12 hour work days does take its toll. Thank you so much for the appreciation, even if we really don't deserve it that much. I'm sure it's the pride we all feel knowing people actually consider us some kind of heroes while we're out there is what keeps us going day by day.

Appreciate the dedication ER. Long time listener, first time commenter. I personally served 4 years in the Airforce. Never saw combat and had no desire too. I have as much of a disdain for war and violence as you probably do and was essentially just in it for the education benefits that I am enjoying now.
The strap on the gas mask carrier is actually meant to wrap around your thigh. You are supposed to go on one knee and quickly remove and put on the mask. It does make for quick access.

With how many people say they absolutely hate us these days, I think hearing people claim appreciation is everything we need. It's not like the military needs donations or anything.

Nobody likes working a thankless job, especially when dying violently is considered a normal risk for their day to day work. This is a bit better than a sticker because it's a personal thank you.
I have yet to meet someone who doesn't appreciate a sincere thank you every once in a while even if they're just doing their job.

Here in Belgium we drink Hoegaarden out of a glass that has been placed in the fridge. So the beer AND glass are cooled somewhere between 39 °F and 46 °F.

As far as that gas mask holder goes, if it's anything like they are now the strap goes around the waist. It appears there's another loop, which if there was another strap for it, it would be wrapped around the thigh.
Also, thanks for the support! (Currently serving in Charlie Company, 1st Battalion 1st Marine Division).

The case for the mask is supposed to strap on you thigh at about hand level if your hands are at your sides. I think the long strap loops twice around your thigh, but it's been a few years since I've used one, but that strap ultimately connects to one of the metal clips on either side of the top of the bag (depending on which leg you have it connected to).

Hey Ephemeral, just wanted to let you know that the person who said it has filters was right. They or the compartments I should say are located in the cheeks. Its where you see an overlapping flap held down by two flat circular nodules unhook them and that's where the filters go.

I stumbled upon ASMR one night while dealing with insomnia. This is relevant, in that its a primary symptom of my PTSD.
I was formerly a combat medic in the Army. While I'm proud of my serivce, war affects everyone who's involved in it, whether it leaves external marks or not.
I listen to some sort of ASMR video every night while struggling to get to sleep. I've subbed to you, and enjoy every minute of relaxation you bring. Keep up the amazing work, and know that we appreciate you as well.

Belgium has three official languages, which are in order of size of the native speaking population of Belgium: Dutch, French and German. A number of non-official minority languages are spoken as well. An estimated 60% of the Belgian population speaks Dutch (often referred to as Flemish), and 40% of the population speaks French; (the speakers are often referred to as Walloons).

Just to clear up the confusion about language in Belgium: out of 11 million inhabitants, a little more than half speak Dutch, just under half speak French and a very small percentage speaks German. As for Dutch and Flemish, they are the same language, but Flemish refers to the Dutch spoken in Belgium and is spoken with a different accent than the Dutch spoken in the Netherlands, just like American and British English.
Anyway, thanks for the great video!

To put it in perspective for you, imagine you have to dedicate a few years of your life to something that is going to be mentally, physically and emotionally straining yet you still choose to do it because you want to serve a cause greater than yourself. As much as I dislike the support our troops saying as something without real meaning (similar to what noam chomsky says about it), it does show that you respect someone who chooses to do that.

Namaste E, if you like Hoegaarden, you'll (hopefully) really enjoy Blue Moon; it's very similar but brewed with oats as opposed to wheat and so is very creamy and also features orange peel. Also try, if you can, Hobgoblin. It's a UK organic craft ruby beer, brewed by Wychwood brewery - a cask ale brewer. I highly recommend both. Thanks for all your art and videos, and a humbled philosophy. Blessings, Peace and Love

I don't really know the psychology of support our troops. Look up things like glittering generality and thought-reforming cliche, if you're interested. My best guess is the rationale for the statement is it lets people who aren't in the AF show that they support the AF. It would be nice to get an actual answer from ER on this one.

That strap and buckle are meant to go around the leg and waist on the right side. For ease of access in case of a surprise gas attack

    Hey Ephemeral,
I would have just PMed if I could find a PM function, but this video seems the best place to post:
I like these beer videos every so often, especially during the suds. I remember a video where you talked about a possible video of a collection of suds.
Then a few weeks ago I was having myself a morning ritual - a mocha espresso. Minutes after I had ordered it and after drinking some, I noticed the soft bubbles were still alive and well.
    Then I thought .. EphemeralRift

You need a southern hospitality kind of video. Like a friend you have not seen in a while. A role play one. Or how nice people are in movies from and take places before 1970. Just an overly generous person in a role play video. That would be great. I'd love to see it. And hear it. lol If you read this. Thank you. I enjoy your videos man. In a non insulting way the relax me and put me to sleep. I cannot thank you enough.

The Dutch they speak there is called "Vlaams" it's different from Dutch in a few words. Most Dutch people think Vlaams sound dumb.
