Another good system to I stall is the viper remote start, sets off your alarm when doors or hood is opened and truck is set to locked. Also has a sensitivity where if someone bumps you the alarm will go off, worth looking Into just to have that loud siren go off

If a broken starter motor? This is def. using the starter motor. And I'm surprised power is going to the ECM. Learn something new every day.

Kill switch to the fuel pump and ECM is way cheaper, easier, and more fool proof. Same idea as your horn trick but kills the power to the ECM

You did not show where you put the key to start it. Not helpful.

I have a main power kill switch and a fuel pump kill switch that is separate from the main power switch.
The chain and lock would be more of a hassle for me. You can take you hood release put it under the front bumper with a lock.
I have walked out several stores watching someone braking in to my 01 SD and walk right up to them and ask if they need a hand. It's funny watching them freak out when I lock them in the truck till the cops show up. Two guys I had to hold at gun point for citizens arrest. I really hate idiots and A$$hol€$!!!!
