    I took a ping pong ball with me to check blowby on a 7.3 a week ago. Works alot better than the cap. I picked the truck up for 5000$ needs a new clutch and up pipes. 177554 miles she runs so good despite needing a new clutch and small uppipe leak. I've ordered 1500$ in parts and sensor I might need down the road. She's going to be a beast. I'm happy with it.

      I just picked up a 7.3 for 5000 similar milage. Runs great, but it has an oil leak the previous owner claims not to have investigated. Worst case it's a rear main seal.

    • @JohnSmith-kz1ll
      @JohnSmith-kz1ll 3 роки тому +1

      They rarely get a rear main seal leak it usually the oring under the turbo or diesel from filter it runs in the valley down the back of the engine. They hardly ever have a rear main seal leak.

    • @swamp-yankee
      @swamp-yankee 3 роки тому +1

      @@JohnSmith-kz1ll I've been reading up, and everyone seems to agree that a rear main is an uncommon leak. I bought it with the worst case scenario in mind. Thanks for giving me an idea of what to look for. I idled it in his driveway and it spat out a bunch of oil, so whatever it is it's a pretty good size leak. I'm gonna pick it up in the next few days. I'm looking forward to getting in there and figuring it out.

      Theres the oil cooler on the side of the block as well very common leak area and they tend to be heavy leaks when they leak.

    Just to add to 5:30 a Carfax report will only report to you an accident that was reported to an insurance company. So there are definitely some cases where a vehicle can be in some form of a crash and still have a clean Carfax. I would definitely recommend being careful if you don't really know how to look for frame damage.

      @hkkhan8319 Like the truck alot. Same engine thats in my Town Car so I'm pretty familiar with it.
      Those gen 2 5.0s are pretty bulletproof from the little research I've done on them. Read they fixed the valve issue with the gen 2.
      Funny you mention those LS engines. I just bought a 2000 2500 Suburban with the 6.0 lol. Those LS motors from 99-06 are the best gas engines gm made in my opinion. I wouldn't touch a 5.3 after 06 if I were you though. To many issues with AFM. Gm never put AFM in the 4.8 or 6.0 though so if you're looking at Gm trucks after 06' I'd look for one of those. Just my opinion.
      A well taken care of 7.3 will definitely last you 10 years if you take care of it as well. I still kick myself for not buying the one I was looking at. I even put a non-refundable deposit down on it and I still backed out of the deal. But yea just take your time and be patient. The right truck will come along. Don't rush. You'll know when you've found the right 1!

Also, when doing a cold start, the glow plugs take APPROXIMATELY 10-ish seconds to heat up and the "wait to start" goes away. Guess i should count next time.

    Hey man, great video very informative.
    I'm actually just about to go look at a 2003 7.3 ex eddie with a new engine with 123000miles and the Trans was rebuilt within the last year .
    Here are some more specs
    Fully loaded 2003 Eddie Bauer with tan interior. Headgasket and injector sleeves just completed at Santech Diesel Performance. Engine replaced by Alpine Diesel August 2020 with a 7.3L Powerstroke. Lots of recent mechanical work done to save the headache. HPOP seals, turbo pedestal seals and oil cooler seals. Riffraff CPS, IPR and ICP all installed. Brand new in box Hydra tuner included but never installed.
    The body - 5” lift with new Bistein 5100’s all around with lifetime warranty (bought at 4wheel Parts), airbagged rear end, professionally paint matched bedliner on the roof (done by Line-X), new windshield. All lights, windows and electrical seem to work as they should. Also has factory roof rails. Cali Raised rims with 325/60R20 Hankook Dynapro’s. Also lots of parts included - additional 2 HPOP’s, stock injectors, gaskets, and others.
    Last owner was meticulous and I’ve got receipts for most of the work/parts.
    He'd asking 8,400 for it what do you think

    Also, beware of the phony dually trucks (people who added the wide rear fenders and extra wheels to a single rear wheel drive F350). If the wide rear fenders do not have the running lights or have the black out running lights it's phony dually. Or if the dually rear wheels do not line up with the fenders (wheels are too far in), it's a phony dually. The best way to identify a real dually is to look at the VIN. Mine is an 2002 F350 crew cab dually so it has W33 in the VIN numbers that let me know the body style is a DRW.

    • @soflodieselco9659
      @soflodieselco9659  3 роки тому +5

      If it's cold and you have to wait that long it's probably your glow plugs which isn't the huge deal unless you're living somewhere cold. They're not too expensive or hard to replace. If it's a hot start issue then you could have bigger problems like oil pressure or something. It would be hard to say without seeing the truck

    If the white truck is a bitch to start, tell me this, are you starting it infrequently? If so watch your oil pressure gauge as you try to start it. If you see the pressure tick up and then it starts just a half a second later, that's a sign that the oil is draining out of the high pressure reservoir when your leaving it sit for days. It cranks and cranks without starting while the reservoir refills and then fires as soon as it's full.

      A 7.3 long block and transmission are worth at least 25-3500 worst case scenario.

      If you are not having any trouble with the truck I would suggest you keep it. I have a 01 with 407000 miles and no problems. Just remember they aren’t dragsters.

      @lonniedye7068 is what he paid a really good deal? I'm looking at a 250 powerstoke 6 speed manual, trans was rebuilt by shop, engine was rebuilt by the owner of truck, frame off restoration, flatbed, small amount of surface rust on spots. Kid wants 22k. That a good deal?

    Hey i know this was posted a while back but I’m in need of some advice. I found a 7.3 350 manual really close to me and it’s pretty reasonable in today’s market. Was wondering if I sent you the link you could check it out for me and lmk what you think. Appreciate the vidoe brother

    LMAO Just an FYI The wait to start light is not connected to the glow plugs in any way. It is a PCM controlled timed idiot light.15 seconds.

    You have to rot your teeth out to buy a powerstroke?
