- We are in the process of Changing the Way We Live Off Grid. Change is good when it requires less effort to maintain. Sustainable power from the sun and solar storage will provide the power we need on the homestead. We have used batteries and generators for almost four years now. Follow along on our journey here for behind the scenes information and check out all the building of the homestead on our main channel listed below:

Equipment maintenance is so important! I have one of those portable power batteries in my mobile work bench. It’s so handy. I cut mainly pine on my little mill. The squirt bottle is a great idea! Have a good weekend!
Especially changing oil. The power bank is almost a must in the bush
Pulling the first line went smoothly, may they all go that easy for you Richard. Glad Jimmy is close by and is a great friend, he does good work too. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.
He is a good friend. Thanks for watching. Gonna get back to the solar project. Have a good week
always working smart, god job
Thanks 👍
You gotta keep the maintenance up, if you don’t want your tools breaking down when you most need them. I am not that great on keeping up the maintenance. I also Jet line my underground the same way, just might pull mule tape in from my mason line so I don’t break the string. Learned from experience, had to re start from beginning. You gonna have that power up in no time. Good show thanks guys!
Right on. Mule tape has 1000 uses. Next best thing to zip tie, lol. You sure have your work cut out for the next little while. Enjoy the videos, keep them coming
Richard, on the PVC pipe, you will want to use a shield over the PVC Pipe, as the UV will cause the pipe to degrade. oil based paint will not protect the pipe and it is not designed for UV protection, but Latex Water based paint have a UV protection in it.
The UV light will make PCV pipe very brittle over time.
Also Oil based paint in a spray can is not compatible with PVC pipe and it will cause it to degrade.
If you remember from your days working for Ma Bell the black plastic shields or metal shields that was used to protect the buried phone cables coming out of the ground in the Telephone poles, they served 2 purposes, one to protect the ground burial cable from UV light and 2 from other damages caused by man and animals.
Working in IT Networking I learned when a network cable was ran outdoors, it had to have proper protection from the UV light either in the cable manufacture or in a conduit.
We already have the cabin side painted in upcoming video and the others will follow. Your right it doesn’t work good
👍👍👍
When you pull wire thru pipe run another string with wire for future options. Ok 👌👌👌
That’s why I ran a separate pipe for a spare. Only using 11/2 pipe so not a lot of room left, lol
Charge Controller common bus. I have found that a lot of charge controllers must have been built by the phone company. The positive buss is common through the controller in a lot of cases. The problem is if the battery negative is grounded for safety, a good idea because of multiple feed points on the output and you ground the negative of the solar panels, you bypass the controller. I normally use a double breaker for the panels and make sure the circuit is isolated to the controller. Hope this helps.
Copy
I’ll have to look into that. Seems like they all go back to the common ground even the controller. So on that one I can’t see how it would bypass. But always up to learning something.
I have noticed on your new mill that you don’t have stainless steel tops on the cross beams where the log lays. Is something missing or am I missing something. Regards, Pete, Australia
Different style of mill. Normally the stainless is mounted on tracks with wider top than mine. Mine are 3/8 metal. Others like you are speaking of that I have seen are like 1 in. Minimum
You will have solar power soon.
We are hoping so.
