Looking for a plan to help your self-improvement goals? Chelsea tells you about some 30-Day challenges that will change your life here: ua-cam.com/video/ZdvviBET9YQ/v-deo.html.
Certain investments in yourself will save and make you money in the long run. Being in good health prevents disease, eases stress, prevents missed days at work, and gives you energy for a side hustle. Thats why eating well, exercising, having a good mattress and pillows, seeing a doctor and/or counselor, and getting massages might be worth it even though they can be extra costs. Better shoes that support your body and prevent bad posture and injury are so important and can cost more. Taking classes for your career so you can improve your quality of work can turn into raises and promotions. Thank you for such an important video.
I worked an 8 to 5 job for 34 years and forced myself to go to bed at 11 PM so that I could get up and go to work. It is such a relief to be retired and keep a 10 or 11 AM to 1 to 2 AM schedule which is what my body wants. Now if I could only convince my husband to not be a morning person--that would be great!
Where were you 30 years ago when I needed this information. You are such a wise women for your age. I also have problems with sleeping and you explained this so precise. Thank you
I've gotten pretty into fitness in recent years. I can't workout at home. I go to a gym because it triggers my desire to work out. It's my dedicated space for fitness. I feel you should separate spaces as much as you can. I'm even thinking about getting a separate computer for work(I'm a computer programmer). Sure my gaming computer could do everything, but when I'm using it I'm too tempted to procrastinate even if I'm not playing games.
on the contrary, being in the gym makes me very self-conscious and distracted. I had been going to the gym for 4 years and stopped 2 years ago. I find myself spending 50% of my time in the gym looking at other women, feel bad about myself, and be tempted to buy the trendiest sports bras.... Now my routine involves a pair of Powerblock in my bedroom and it works great for me. I like the intense focus, almost like meditation. Just saying that everyone is different and thrives in different situation!
To add to the idea that the term "organic" is not always clear in it's meaning despite being regulated, it's important to mention that the term "natural" is completely unregulated. Anyone can put it on anything. Reading the ingredient list is best practice!
I'm all about spending on sleep. The best thing I ever bought for myself was my bed tent. I have anxiety about sleep and for a while this led to insomnia. But now that I have my bed tent I feel secure and have had hardly any sleepless night since buying it. I will never regret this buy, so, yeah, I definitely agree with spending on sleep.
Just bought a fancy body pillow and a eye mask. There's been such an improvement in my comfort while I sleep! Also upgraded my food purchases and feel better physically. Now I need a personal trainer and some brains to pick!
This video is SO applicable to what I’m going through right now. It’s funny how often that happens... One of the reasons I look forward to your videos so much! I actually just started this week writing down what I eat and how much it costs each day!
The accountability of having a trainer (a yoga instructor for me). Knowing that you are going to receive that phone call with the disappointed tone is enough to make me get to class. Also, seeing others that are becoming real friends is wonderful motivation as well.
Imperfect produce has made it so much easier for me to keep seasonal produce on hand. They divert the "ugly" and surplus produce from supermarkets that might otherwise get thrown out, instead turning it into a subscription-like produce service. They now service several major cities such as Chicago, Seattle, Portland, LA and the San Francisco Bay area. For me, it's been a fantastic service in the perfect intersection of cost effectiveness and convenience, whilst still being environmentally friendly and healthy.
From the time you mentioned, "The Secret" being bs I instantly clicked like! I said finally somebody who doesn't believe this book is so good 🤗. Always love the content from this channel keep up the good work!
your discussion of getting is a personal trainer was very helpful, i got a PT to help me learn proper positioning and stroke technique for swimming and have found it to be a valuable resource in maintaining a fitness plan
100% with the trainer! I finally restarted going to the gym regularly because I decided I no longer felt comfortable in the gym (even though I’ve been going all my life as an athlete but I was bored and in a rut and wanted to learn new things the right way) . But a trainer seemed too pricey until I found a deal on Groupon and made my appointment! Could not miss it once I started bc that would be a real chunk of of change! He kicked my butt for a month or two then I’ve been on track solo since then (with help of some of my fav you tubers like Whitney Simmons) ever since. Find something you love to do, that key and do it! So worth it! Yes!
Accountability is the key word! I just read The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin and it seems like the majority of people are "obligers" so yes, those of us that are NEED accountability!!
I seriously love everything about this channel. I'm 21 and I want to build a good life, I want to move out and take care of myself, and you guys tell me that it's possible and it's not just a dream. This channel is so inspiring and down to earth. I'm so grateful. Keep up the great work 😙😙😙😙😙
1. Person training at the gym 2. Brain picking (asking others about their fields, etc) 3. Higher quality food 4. Anything that helps you sleep well 5. Ongoing education
I already graduated college with a bachelors degree in mathematics and I’m currently going to school in a community college for accounting, and people make fun of me for it because they say I’m still in school but they don’t really understand how better it is for me mentally and for my professional career!
I love your videos because they have a high quality/time value = every sentence is a good content with potentially immediate practical application in our lives. Thanks!
Boy, number 3 about what you eat affecting your productivity. I was literally preparing my food and thinking about that exact topic and it kind of freaked me out that you were talking about what was running through my mind at that exact second.
I love that you mentioned this about organic food! Eating lots of veggies and fruits, is more important than eating organic or not. Just get those veggies in your body!
I bought a Blanquil- $160 bougie 20 lb weighted blanket FOR ONE PERSON. This looks totally tacky on my bed, and it makes it hard to snuggle with my bf in bed, but the improvements I've had in sleep are incredible. I can't say enough good things about how much it has helped me. If you're a horrible, light sleeper, consider a weighted blanket- it is worth the hype!
I've been working out for over 20 years. I don't like personal trainers. Most gyms have instruction guides on how to use the equipment. You can also watch UA-cam videos or read books. You can also watch other people in the gym. Just start out slow with light intensity and slowly build up. If you feel any harsh pain, stop and do a different piece of equipment. Make it fun. The key is to exercise. And if once you build up, you can increase the intensity if you want faster results. Just be careful. The higher the intensity, the greater chances of injury.
I got your channel it seemed like you are talking about me when you were talking about personal training. I was one of those people who always wanted to work out and failed until I signed up for personal training. It was the best thing I ever did. And I like your other advice about reading and learning things too I believe you're never too old to learn something new and even if you start something and take a break and come back you can always finish it later. As long as you are committed to finishing what you start.
In most urban places a vegetarian or mostly vegetarian diet has proven to be very affordable. Except for a few regions (and for those very much struggling financially), the idea that eating healthy is more expensive than eating unhealthily is a myth. This is especially true for the staples.
Captain Planet just being a vegetarian doesn’t necessarily mean you eat healthier though. Nice greens and veggies are the best and usually some of the priciest items in the grocery store
My exgf would insist that being vegetarian/vegan is more expensive. But It costs money to add meat, and you really shouldn't neglect fruits and veggies regardless of your diet. However the traditional American diet usually has a strong emphasis on meat which can contribute to an array of health issues later in life.
The issue is that most ready-made food is not vegetarian or vegan, you have to make those meals yourself. Eating healthy is more expensive in time, if not in money. Also, it highly depends on your location. Where I live, it's definitely not cheaper most of the time to eat fresh, despite cheap staples like rice and beans.
This varies - far more than you're giving credit to - based on where in the country you live, and you're already limiting the relevance of your point by "in most URBAN places". A lot of people don't live in urban places, and even if you live in rural agricultural areas, that doesn't mean the healthier foods are grown there (and therefore less expensive).
In my gym there is most of the time at least one ‘personal’ trainer. You can walk up to them and ask if they can make you a workout routine. When the routine is finished they will walk it through with you once, so they can correct your posture and show how the machines work. and it’s all part of the (not that expensive) membership.
varies a lot depending on which gym you use. in the UK most personal trainers do classes for the gym where they are based, and some will be free for members or at reduced fee, while any 1 to 1 personal training is a separate arrangement at whatever rate the PT charges for x number of training sessions
6. Taking care of your health, including emotional/psychological/mental. Go see that chiropractor, physical therapist, psychotherapist, dentist, optometrist, dietician, urologist, proctologist, podiatrist, cardiologist, endocrinologist, allergist, otolaryngologist, genetic counselor or whatever you need that you've already contributed to with annual healthcare premiums. Don't settle for "I can manage" if you have the means to address an issue. People will ignore things like tumors and lumps, pain with intercourse, painful menstruation, bladder urgency, recurring infections, receding gums, hearing loss, obesity, depression, and anxiety and just adapt. If you can get treatment, go for it. 7. Somewhat related is getting help for maladaptive coping behaviors. If you habitually use alcohol, sweets, food, drugs, sex, spending, gambling, or other substances or behaviors to deal with stress, you might be dealing with a substance or process addiction. Getting help before the addictive behavior takes over will mitigate the consequences. 8. Invest in friendships that produce health criticism/feedback.
Omg I tried the personal trainer thing and It actually helped me, I decided to quit the personal trainer and immediately a week after I left the gym too.
I hate sports, but I went happily for 6 years twice a week to karate training in a Sportverein. Why? I liked the other people and looked forward to meet them. And by the way- the local Sportverein costs 10 € a month. Less if you are on social security.
Passion Flower extract has helped me sooooooo much with sleep especially during times of anxiety. It’s pretty inexpensive and it doesn’t give me the weird dreams and grogginess melatonin does.
Thanks for another awesome video! Your thoughts on sleep and food were really eye opening to me. I also agree with your thoughts on organic food. There no correlation between healthiness and organic. The main benefit is that it's better for the environment.
The word organic, and organic labels on produce are very well regulated with certification, not poorly regulated. Words like natural on food have no regulations.
I definitely agree with other people who say therapy should be on the list.... I'd also add physical things that improve your quality of life in the long run, such as Lasik surgery, or even cosmetic things like Invisalign or laser hair removal.
Nothing new here but a lively delivery from a talented person. More suggestions for an improved lifestyle but at my age slim pickings for the growing number of baby boomers reaching retirement. Your ideas are still self evident and tweakable. After you grow your own vegies and fruits you may never buy another tomato, potato, apple, cherry, pear or plum again. Start by growing lettuce and herbs on your windowsill and see where that takes you. A fig tree on your balcony perhaps? At my age and wisdom, don't fiight mother nature. If you're a nightowl, work at night when you're most productive and profitable. The network approach to landing a job has always been a gimmee but is also a double edged sword: Beware a frenemy in the making. One more thing, the personal trainor is well worth the money but addictive. Read!!!!
Some gyms offer one-on-one training sessions for free from time to time. Mine does. These are an opportunity for the trainers to try to get people to sign up for training sessions. It feels like I am being sold a time share - but I don't care - it is the price of the free training session. I use these free sessions as a way to learn new training motions to put into my regular schedule, an opportunity for a trainer to check my form, possibility find a new trainer to work with, and overall keep up my interest in working out. Yes, you have to go through the same sales pitch each time, but a small price to pay, I think. The last training session I had, mentioned that in his time working for my gym company, he only saw a handful of people taking advantage of this opportunity. I've had the gym managers get ticked that I take advantage of these sessions, then not pay for the trainers time, but again, I don't care - and give them crap back if they don't provide the service as promised. The gym is offering it without condition, and they need to provide it without condition. I am upfront with the trainer, and let them know that I am not really looking to sign up for training sessions at the time. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. If nothing else, I gain a little more knowledge, and they gain an opportunity to practice their spiel. It is just an hour, and is a win-win for all in my eyes. Love the videos. Even with your spiel, :) , they are a win-win too! In this genre, your videos are a 1st go-o for me. Thank you!
I actually tried to get a library card in my town (to do exactly that....read more) and I was told that there's a fee of $50 for a card that is issued every 3 years. This is because the town I live in taxes for library services. I was shocked and decided not to get one that day because I was not prepared to spend $50. I will get one eventually because it comes out to $1.38/mo and I know I would spend my time there.
Rita Jean Smith , yes. I have never lived where public libraries charged for membership, and I first heard of it only in the last few years. Chelsea is younger than me and has probably had a similar experience
This is completely unrelated to the topic of this video. I have autoplay on, and it sent me to this video. Just want to say your hair is on-point in this video, looks good!
When it comes to networking, all I ever seem to hear about is "going out for drinks." What might be some non-alcoholic alternatives, for those of us who choose not to drink?
I got a good foundation for going to the gym from the book Thinner Leaner Stronger. But even so, sometimes I will go with my boyfriend and he shows me more exercises and techniques, so a good personal trainer can help mix things up especially when you start losing motivation.
No going to lie, I'm made myself start doing my lift during these videos to make myself more productive and I love it. Also, nice image of Trinity Library, it's really pretty in person too :)
I heard you talking about "organic food not meaning a lot"... I wwant to say that in the US it might be true, but in Europe it involves a lot of controls and rules to follow. Depending on the origin of your food (geographical origin), the way it's produced will mean a lot or not. For example, an organic banana from Peru contain more chemicals than a non organic one from Guadeloupe! But Organic mostly means less chemicals, more respect and money for people producing food and THIS means something.
Self-improvement is always worth it. 😂 No one is ever going to be perfect or know everything there is to know. There's always room for personal growth. To neglect or deny this is laziness or ignorance. Not to mention lack of accountability. I loved the example you gave of your husband taking alternative initiative in networking though. The way you described it was definitely a light bulb gem!👍
The best self improvement starts with realizing who and what you are and directing your energy toward what you want. I wouldn’t bash “The Secret” just because it’s a little woowoo... it could be the path some people need to take to recognize the nature of reality. It’s not “physically impossible” to attract what you want... wherever you direct your energy is what will “manifest” in front of you. It’s great to be grounded and logical, but understand that everything is based off of your mind and perspective. Make improvements that bring you closer to oneness... this isn’t necessarily in response to TFD. I just figured that if anyone was on a spiritual path and felt a little put off by the cynicism and skepticism towards “the secret” they should know that their spiritual path is valid. For everyone reading this, your financial situation will become better as you start to work on yourself and the flow of energy around you. So listen to the great advice in this video... but also understand that you are the creator of your own reality and HOWEVER you come into understanding that (whether it’s taking control of your financial situation or through meditation and mantra) YOUR PATH IS VALID. The world is routing for you. 🖤
I'd totally bash the secret, because it's clearly bullshit. If you talk about energy, and manifestation, oneness...You're no longer being rational, and that will usually lead to making worse decisions. If your path is based on spiritual garbage like this... YOUR PATH IS INVALID.
I hate personal training, I love going to the gym and prefer to do what I want and go at my own pace. Most gyms offer free classes and a complimentary training programme when you join (at least in the UK, not sure how it is elsewhere). My gym has lots of free classes for members like spinning, pump/ tone weights classes, pilates, abs classes etc.
I won't work out at home. It just doesn't work for me. Home is relax time. I need the gym subscription to make this distinction between exercise and relaxing. But I don't go expensive. I just need planet fitness to have some weights (no room at home) and a treadmill for when the weather is bad
Micah Lee I agree, my home doesn't work for workouts. Between the size of my house (almost 600 sqft), the neighborhood kids running in and out (only one is mine, but five are common in my tiny living room), the pets circling my legs, and as you said, the needed relaxing sanctuary. However, outside and my garage work, and I'm a planet fitness lover too!
A cheaper option than a personal trainer for accountability and results is to purchase a fitness plan.. Often there is 8-12 week plans for ~50$, which is often still a lot of money for students so it’ll make you feel bad if you don’t actually use it ;)
Hi Chelsea and TDF people! You said you got a "sun-imitating lamp" but did you mean alarm clock? And if so which brand did you get? There are so many different ones that range from $20-$150. Would really appreciate a recommendation. Thanks!
Going mainly vegan throughout the week has saved me well over $200 a month on my groceries and I've had way more energy, clarity, and it's helped my IBS when nothing else - even medication - did.
Love this channel, but sometimes wish the videos were at a slower pace. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but she speaks pretty quickly and sometimes I feel like I have to play things back a few times to absorb what she’s saying. Love this channel & advice though
Oh good. My one "splurge" area is nice food. Glad to have that choice backed up ;) And yea I agree in a food desert getting good food is tough but a veg-centric diet really is cheaper in my experience (living all over the world with varying budgets). Cheese and meats are expensive, yo.
Awesome video! I am fortunate that I have been able to implement at home exercise but I definitely have been investing more into my sleep. I've tried melatonin with a little success but I'd say having a breakfast that I can't wait to eat (like waffles, fruit, and tea) has been very helpful to getting up quicker in the morning! 💜
Love your channel, got the book.. and just checked if you guys have also podcast- and there wasn't so I thought to put my thought here and see what happen ☺️
Orange theory. It’s 150$ a month for me but I got 6 times a week so it makes each class around 5-6$ I find it’s the motivation I need right now to get back I to fitness. I don’t really buy material things unless I have too and usually only spend my money on groceries so I don’t feel bad splurging on the membership fee
Not a fitness freak in the slightest, but signing up for a personal trainer was actually a very bad financial decision for me. Many places that offer personal training (especially your gym!!) have shady contracts that are also fairly expensive and hard to break without incurring a huge fee. Think long and hard before you sign any gym/personal training contract.
Looking for a plan to help your self-improvement goals? Chelsea tells you about some 30-Day challenges that will change your life here: ua-cam.com/video/ZdvviBET9YQ/v-deo.html.
1. Personal training 0:57
2. Brain pickings 3:44
3. Higher quality food 5:43
4. Anything that helps you sleep well 7:37
5. Ongoing education 9:57
Victoria K thank you for that!
Thank you !
You're the real mvp
Omg thank you!
Thank you!
This channel is such a breath of fresh air in the UA-cam budgeting world. Much needed, and *much* appreciated.
Abroad on a Budget can't agree more!
Sure as hell beats Dave Ramsey insisting poverty is entirely your fault.
I have become addicted to your channel. I love how real, non-scammy and no-bullshit it is. Your script is also extremely well-written!

Katarina S. You're reading it backward. I go to bed at 2 AM and get up at 11 AM. That is 9 hours of sleep.
Vickie Clark 👍 that’s where my body’s natural clock is. I still have 35 working years left though 🤗
4am to 1.30pm is my natural sleep time... Which sucks 😑
Where were you 30 years ago when I needed this information. You are such a wise women for your age. I also have problems with sleeping and you explained this so precise. Thank you
I absolutely love how you just jump into he videos rather than batting around the bush. Really appreciate it.

Very nice advice regarding separating spaces ..it's really underrated .. specially in Asian countries.

A Nakano what services are there for this?
Taylor Nelson I think "Imperfect Produce" is the name, it just wasn't capitalized.
Yes!!!! Imperfect Produce is the best!! I only spend about $30/month on fresh, healthy produce
This is great advice! I would also add therapy to the list.
Carolyn Viggh YES. I really wish it wasn’t so expensive because it’s huuugely beneficial (with the right therapist...),
From the time you mentioned, "The Secret" being bs I instantly clicked like! I said finally somebody who doesn't believe this book is so good 🤗. Always love the content from this channel keep up the good work!

PersonAL training
Very glad I subscribed recently, I'm hoping to get better as I work through college and plan my future
“Anything that helps you sleep”... as I watch this at 3am
My thoughts exactly; except in my case at 1 after having been up until 3:30 yesterday lol.
Dont know why or agree with things but we do like you and are able to listen to her.
I already graduated college with a bachelors degree in mathematics and I’m currently going to school in a community college for accounting, and people make fun of me for it because they say I’m still in school but they don’t really understand how better it is for me mentally and for my professional career!

varies a lot depending on which gym you use. in the UK most personal trainers do classes for the gym where they are based, and some will be free for members or at reduced fee, while any 1 to 1 personal training is a separate arrangement at whatever rate the PT charges for x number of training sessions
Knowing what perks you're already paying for and using them is a great idea.
My bank offers a free review of you credit report, for example
Chelsea doesn’t need any self improvement cuz she is already perfect! ❤️😍
I totally agree on the personal training part.
I saw this and couldn't wait to watch. that quote about business @ 5:30 is amazing. I think I need to apply that.
I love this channel. Such practical yet creative advice. Motivating too!
Thanks for another awesome video! Your thoughts on sleep and food were really eye opening to me. I also agree with your thoughts on organic food. There no correlation between healthiness and organic. The main benefit is that it's better for the environment.
Yay, reading!! Easily the best self-improvement tool in the world!
Thank you for promoting the library! I am a librarian so I appreciate it!
This is some of the best content on all of UA-cam. Amazing work!
Katrina Bolinder, LASIK was pretty amazing.
Thank you TFD for all the awesome tips en each video. 100% of them gets a thumbs up from me because they are really helpful to me. Greetings 🇲🇽 😊
Awesome video! Once again I will be recommending my friends and family to your channel. Thank you!
7:05 ....*stops chewing pepperoni
You're my favorite on The Financial Diet! I like the way you deliver the videos!
If you buy fruit and vegetables from China town it's much cheaper than whole foods. I also read that the products are from local farmers in New York.
Kim Davis You eat appetizers and drink seltzer? I think if you say you're not drinking, no one is going to force you
Coffee/tea?
Any beverage at all. We all need to hydrate. I didn’t assume suggesting drinks is automatically alcoholic
Go out for lunch? Or coffee?
Ginger ale
Thank you for the wonderful advice! Practical and insightful! Well-worth my time to watch this channel!
Hi Chelsea,
I found myself nodding in agreement with pretty much every point you made.
Much love,
Vicky (UK)
The great thing about in season produce aside from the health benefits, is that they are usually the items on sale too 😉🙌
The best self improvement starts with realizing who and what you are and directing your energy toward what you want.
NOVA ANIM This was beautiful and much needed. Thank you on behalf of everyone. ♥️
I'd totally bash the secret, because it's clearly bullshit. If you talk about energy, and manifestation, oneness...You're no longer being rational, and that will usually lead to making worse decisions.
If your path is based on spiritual garbage like this... YOUR PATH IS INVALID.
Thomas Richardson your perspective is valid and I love you
Thomas Richardson Open your mind a bit.
Sooo well said! Killing it ✊.
4 of these are rules that I have had for myself already and can totally agree on the other one.
Your channel is truly amazing, I always come back to it to learn and feel like a better equipped adult.
The best you can hope for is to plant a little seed in the people around you and MAYBE it will grow into that may sustain you. Good luck!
Thanks!
My new favorite channel.
Going mainly vegan throughout the week has saved me well over $200 a month on my groceries and I've had way more energy, clarity, and it's helped my IBS when nothing else - even medication - did.
Thank you! I love your videos so muuuuch
So needed to hear these. Thanks TFD!
Deciding to train with a personal trainer was one of my best decisions!
that idea to offer to take a person in your industry to lunch is amazing! i'd never have thought about that
Love this channel, but sometimes wish the videos were at a slower pace. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but she speaks pretty quickly and sometimes I feel like I have to play things back a few times to absorb what she’s saying. Love this channel & advice though
Grace B. , not me. Depending on the device you're using, you may be able to slow down the playback speed. I hope that helps
Thank you, this was really helpful
Number 4 is the ultimate truth!
Coffee
Great video however „organic“ actually is quite protected in the US by the USDA NOP. :) thanks for the the tips!
Love your channel, got the book.. and just checked if you guys have also podcast- and there wasn't so I thought to put my thought here and see what happen ☺️
This video came at the perfect time!!!! Thank you!
This is an amazing video. Thank you
Great post. Thank you!
Excellent advice! Thank you!
Organic means grown without pesticides. Buy organic and in season whenever possible. It’s the better choice.
Awesome thank you
hey video request: financial advice if you're thinking of having a baby :D love your work x
All of these things also help protect your brain against the onset of dementia as you age. 💙
