I purchased one of these kits on eBay with a new shell, and other than me having to manually thread the holes, I don't have any problems with it. For 45 bucks, it breathed a lot of new life into my GBA that I got for free years ago. Decided not to solder the brightness wires in since the default brightness was more than enough for me.
Didnt the F-Zero games on GBA flash the map in the corner on eachother frame, making it seem transparant on the original screen? The "F-Zero mode" could possibly be that screen mode that keeps such things transparant instead of flickering?
I bought one of these kits and it arrived today. The screen is VERY dim, but I am a guy who likes everything at MAX BRIGHTNESS. The "F-Zero" mode seems to slow down the game for reasons that I cannot even pretend to understand. Not good, not bad.
Just commenting overall in the chance you'll see this. Been looking at your website for a GBA/GBC for a long while now, probably +6 months. The Suicune one I'm really tempted on because of the FP motherboard and everything it offers, but that shell, not a huge fan. The Blastoise one you made as a first go would have been an instant buy had I been in the stream when you made it. I'll for sure buy one if a FP motherboard gba with a good IPS screen pops up (Honestly not sure is there any practical difference between a V3 and a V5 after your video, slight variance) Also. Don't think you've seen this comment from your GBA IPS Screen comparison video, so posting it here. Maybe a decent future video idea? * How does the colors compare (warm/cold/washed out/over saturated)? * How does the screen handle games with flickering (for transparency)? * Does it have ghosting? * Does it have integer pixel scaling or not? * How are the viewing angles? * Feature comparison like color palettes, frame blending (to avoid flickering), screen offset etc, with a matrix comparing every screen at the end.
Magnífico tutorial! Te quedó una GBA muy bonita y funcional, además de mostrar todo el proceso paso a paso. Me encantan este tipo de videos de modificaciones de la GBA, saludos desde España!
I bought a gameboy advance recently just so I can trade between my emerald and leaf green copies via XD gale of darkness, I have the cable to do so. I just didn't have the gameboy. I realized the gameboy couldn't play in the dark and that irritated me. I've been used to playing Emerald on the DS that I didn't realize things about the screen brightness. I've seen very easy tutorial videos on how to change the screen to an LCD backlit one. I can't wait to replace the screen.
Cool, case is perfect for a GBA custom cut translucent Kirby reverse sticker/skin if that exists :-) so it can be sticked on the inside but it'll look right on the outside. God bless retro GB DIY
Are there instructions to solder wires for button controls for brightness around anywhere? I couldn't find much online and I'm finding the touch pad very easily is activated by accident
hey jake, could you try the gbaccelerator with a bunch of modkits? i ordered a v5 hispeedido kit and would like to know if the gbaccelerator works, i havent found ANYTHING online about it (for the normal gba)
Are there really no such thing as an ips kit or anything better than stock for ds screens? I wanna upgrade my ds real bad but ive not seen a single ips mod for one
I've read some comments about the V5 drop in getting dead pixels when using the pixel filter. Is it something i should worry about if i decide to order one ?
Question here, recently bought by and installed a drop in v5 3.0 following your guide on it but was left with light bleed on the bottom of the screen and spent hours to figure it out a fix but it still has a little bit of bleed on the bottom and I just can’t stop noticing it when playing Mario and Luigi superstar saga and often go between menus
It’s probably because the screen is slightly bent or the there’s a bit of pressure somewhere along the edge. Sometimes it’s a pain in the butt to figure out unfortunately:/
@Jake Simmons Hey, I tried using your code for a discount for a modded GBA but it wouldn't work. I still ended up buying it anyways but I was just wondering why it wasn't working for me. 🤔 Also, i'm the guy that messaged you about the Pokemon Crystal cartridge, thanks again for the recommendation, Richard said he could help me out so thank god for him and you. 🙂👍

That would make sense! Good thinking
I feel like this video is about to be linked to a lot in future live streams
Where do I get those custom cases at 15:03? They’re so cool!!
People on etsy make some and they are like $10 with shipping

the ds screen is already pretty dang good.
Not yet unfortunately

I have not heard of that issue so I don’t think it’s something to worry about
whats the difference between the v5 and the v5.4?
I have been ordering my kits from aliexpress and they even do refund or replace another new part if you received a damaged one.
most do but there are always some sellers who suck unfortunately :/
I got the 3oh3 reference, great song.
