In this video I restored a walking water sprinkler model A5. This sprinkler was manufactured by National Manufacturing, a company in the United States of America. The traveling sprinkler drives itself on top of the garden hose which it uses as a guide. It has two adjustable walking speeds, high and low. The sprinkler is made of cast iron.

My dad had one just like this. It was one of my chores during the summer to keep the lawn watered, fertilized and mowed. He named the sprinkler "Oscar". Every night we would chat about what Oscar needed to do the next day. I kind of miss Oscar. Thanks for bringing back some great memories. I am bigtime missing my dad right now, but in a good way.

Thanks, Dude. I'm in my 60s and never saw one of these new; when I was growing up in the 1950s-1960s they were owned by elderly people and always looked like they'd been through a war. They fascinated me, like they had a mind of their own as they slowly followed the hose around the yard and made that faint "clank" as the claw fell against one of the gears. Good to see one new-looking!

I have actually done the exact same restore tear down and rebuild a year ago or so. Only difference I went with John Deere colors instead of factory. They not only still produce these tractors but every single part is still available for them. I love mine it will drag hundreds of feet of hose.

I remember standing so close to it that the water almost felt like it was slicing my shins. My siblings and I would dare each other to get closer to it. Get too close though, and you got hit with the metal. But I remember the metal didn’t hurt as much as the water pressure.
