- We were fortunate to get the opportunity to see the inside of the old church in Williston. To see the beautiful design of the church building and to find out that the stone used to build the church was mined just outside of town, was so interesting. A local resident who has lived in the town since 1961 and is virtually a historian on the town, then gave us the keys to the gate leading to the old Corbelled houses about 20km outside Williston on the Fraserburg road. This was a real privilege to see these old structures which are only found in this district, not to mention the old ox wagons and other artefacts surrounding the houses. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #williston #mannarestaurant #southafricavlog #amandelboom #corbelledhouse #church

Incredible stone NG church, I was thinking the same thing about the stunning karoo garden in its grounds, I loved the story about the organist. Williston should be renamed "Amandelboom", it seems like a great Karoo town. Your capable Kwid took you on roads few would venture to those interesting structures in real Karoo landscapes.
We just couldn't pass up on the opportunity to visit those stone houses, its such an important part of the history of the area. You're right, far too few people get to see them.
Beautiful church👌
Hi there, once again, thank you for an amazing and informative video. Happy trails, safe journeys and be blessed
This is most.interesting never heard of those houses before, they are so original with just stone beautiful.
The fact that the people back then were so innovative to make use of what they could find to build shelters, is amazing! We were very fortunate to be able to see them.
I'm all caught up with this trip
Happy to hear! 😁 We'll be wrapping up in Williston in the next episode. I hope you'll enjoy that one too!
Thanks so much again. We live out in the country in Italy and here the shops close from about 12.30 / 1 to about 3.30 /4 in the afternoon! Visotors find it very odd at first
Closed between one and two brought back such memories of calling on country dealers back in the 80's. Staff woukd go home and eat lunch with their families and at two be back st work. The boss would go around and wish everyone a good afternoon. Simpler times.
Yup, 'simpler times' indeed. That really says it all. Thank you for recounting this memory. 👌🏻We just need to stop rushing and take things easier, the folks at the shop were super friendly, even when we just wanted a couple of tomatoes and not a whole bag. It must've been the homemade meal they just had at home for lunch! 😁🚗
Many moons age i started my career as magistrate here. Wow
It seems so long ago now, but we loved Williston! Such a typical Karoo town and community. You must know this part of the country well having worked here for a while. 😁⚖️
Magnificent church. Ek kan so amper die orrel hoor! We arrived in Williston coming back from Durban via west cape and stayed over at Williston Hotel. Ek was vrot van die griep en wou niks eet. Maar die tannie se kos was so lekker, ek het goed geeet en sommer die volgende more baie beter gevoel. So that is a good memory of Williston. thanks for an excellent video of this beautiful town
Yes, that would make sense of the Karoo food, that it would even cure a cold! 😁🤧 We thoroughly enjoyed our meals at Manna Restaurant, they were divine! It's a great town that we got to spend quite a bit of time in, by our standards. And it so happened that our host was a Councillor who happened to be one of the keykeepers of the church and was willing to let me have a peek inside. What a fantastic part of the world this is! 😍
@@DustBugsTravelso Amazi g and so special
The gate to the Corbelled House, I will call the small step gate. Just look at you again when opening the gate. You gave these funny small steps 😂
🤣 This particular gate was rather heavy, therefore the small steps! 🚗😁
