- Welcome to the journey of reviving another classic! Join us in this in-depth tour of our rescued 1970 Ford Econoline Camper Van, once on the brink of the junkyard, now set for a breathtaking restoration and renovation. We see so much potential in this sweet old class B motorhome but the years of neglect have definitely taken their toll on this vintage caravan.
We plan to bring this vintage beauty back to life while showing you the step-by-step process along the way. This van was literally at the junkyard and was saved at the last minute - we're so happy it was. We'll repair, update, and modernize everything from the engine to the interior. We'll also try to throw in some tech-savvy upgrades and hopefully make it possible to stay off-grid for a period of time. Discover the unique quirks and features that make the 1970 Ford Econoline Camper Van a timeless classic. We're not just restoring a caravan; we're preserving a piece of automotive history.
If you have any experience with this type of campervan or renovation, we'd love to have you follow along with the journey to share your thoughts, tips, and experiences in the comments. Please consider subscribing and stay tuned for more!
If you're new to the channel, hope you check out some of our previous videos!

You guys are either insane or we are all insane with you...watching is fun.
Agreed 😆. Thanks for watching!
If you are going to continue the established precedent for naming I believe you should call this one VANhalen.
Oooohhhh, we could call him Eddie!
And paint it like his red, white and black guitar! 🤘
@@retrorevivalsSteady Eddie! Great
You have the best thing going this side of UA-cam! I just subscribed & I'm procrastinating on cleaning the kitchen by watching your videos back2back! I can dream about using my creativity if I don't! You all are lucky ducks! 🦆 🍀
omg plz call it vanhalen hahahaha

Dryce for Christmas gifts for everyone!
Great idea!
I think you might find that the "bird feeder" is actually a camping toaster- at least from the brief look I got. Loving the video. I'm a new subscriber and being watching right now. 😂
That's so funny! When we first posted the video, we got so many comments about that. I think we might be the only people that didn't know it was a toaster, lol 😂 Thanks for watching!
Dang Nab , you did it again.
We're looking forward to getting started on this one soon!
I'm itching all over while you rummage through those filthy cabinets.
Lol, pretty gross for sure!
“We can move right in.” 😂😂😂😂
It is quite homey, isn't it? 😂
You guys are so positive, chill and funny. I absolutely love watching you! Thanks for bringing joy as well as inspiration!
Thanks!😁
She's absolutely beautiful wish we had that styling here in the UK. ❤💯✌️🤟👍😁🚐🚐🚐🚐☮️
We are dying to get started on it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
A mid-Michigan treasure. We are from the Grand Rapids area but retired to AZ.
Thanks for watching!
The bird feeder is a toaster. Good luck with the new project.
We enjoy learning new things from the comments 😁. Thanks!
Can't wait to see what you will do to it to bring it back to its full glory.
We're excited too! A lot of work to be done for sure. Thanks for watching 😁
That van is awesome! Good find, cant wait to see it on the road.
Yes, same! We're excited to start working on it soon!
I like that this van was rescued not once but twice. What a great life for it!
Thanks! We're excited to give it some new life 😉
Thank you for your service young Soldier
You're welcome 🇺🇸
The WD 40 was a sample size. I spent 30 yrs in the hardware business and gave hundreds of these away. Glad to see one still remains. Ray in Boise ID
That's so cool! Thanks for the comment, Ray!
I'm sure you will get it going
We're looking forward to working on it soon!
Liking the Orange Vibe
Two-tone like it is but orange and white-ish, right? 🎉🎉
Well that's settled you have to name it after a horn player.🎷🎺📯
Ooohhh, that's a good idea! We haven't even begun to think about names for this one yet but we probably should soon! Thanks for the comment 😀
Awesome fine 💯🤙🏾
Thanks!
Can’t wait to see this series. That van is a diamond in the rough! Love the content. Greetings from South Texas.
Greetings! Thanks for the comment and we're happy to have you following along. We're excited about this van 🎉
Looks like green is your colour Christie….. Once you get that Jack-knife sofa fixed up, matching captains chairs cleaned and conditioned alongside that cool retro flooring….you’ll be styling ! It definitely gives me a Scooby doo vibe though, super cool find !
The green is cool but are you feeling orange vibes from it at all?
Well…..there is a Napoleon Dynamite vibe happening🤔It would mean reupholstering all the seating, probably need new headliners anyways…and there is the usual old RV surprises. Although I think you 2 are well capable of doing it. I sew/ upholster and I found a really good UA-cam channel for that part. Take a look at Old School Auto Upholstery Techniques….the guy is amazing. Can’t wait to see what you 2 are up to next😉 If you go orange, I guess that’ll make Tyler…. Uncle Rico 👨🏻🦰
great turn of events leading to it being saved, i feel it was ment to be
We're glad he got to it when he did! We're excited for the new challenge 🎉
Oh man, this is a MESS, let's get busy!!!!! Can't wait to see what you guys are going to do!!!!
I don't think it's quite as bad as Harvey was but there's still quite a bit of dookie. We're excited!
This Is gonna be fun!!
It's a huge project but it should be fun 😁!!
Love you guys so much!!! look forward to you renaming (colorful Names ) during the restore process Keep Smiling!!
Thanks so much! We're excited about this one!
What you called a bird feeder is actorly a camping toaster.
Good to know. Thanks!
As a Ford guy I approve haha!!! Super duper excited for this reno/revival.
Thanks, Tyler, we're excited too 🎉
Really waiting for this one❤
Yes, we're excited to get started on it too!
That "Bird feeder" is a toaster.
Thanks for the comment 😁
This was travel without air conditioning, I don't think I saw any air vents? Still a cool old vehicle. Have fun with it. Thanks for sharing it with us, DC
Thanks for the comment! We didn't even notice there aren't air vents, we'll need to take a closer look! We're excited to get started on it soon!
Keep up the good videos and stay safe and cool
Thank you! ❤️
You seem like such a nice couple and family. I love that you are G-rated. And you are not at all afraid of some work. Oh to be younger, I say to myself. You were going through the cabinets like you had no fear. That thing you thought was a bird feeder is actually a stovetop toaster. I have one, but it is not that old!! I know it will be a long time before you finish it, but I can't wait to see what you do to it. I love what you have done with Harvey!
Thanks so much for the comment! We're really looking forward to getting things moving with our upcoming projects. Work is progressing on the barn (we were hoping it would be finished by now) but anyway, soon! Too funny about the toaster... other people corrected us on that too. We're definitely going to have to put bird seed in it to see what happens, lol.
Love watching you guys! It’s so fun seeing you guys interact as a fellow married person, you can tell yall are absolute best friends as well. ❤ So excited to see where you take your projects! You have inspired me to start my own home projects and pick up the camera!
That's amazing! Good luck on your project! Let us know when you have some videos published :-)
That “bird feeder” is actually a toaster! I remember that from camping when I was a kid!
So funny! We get this sweet old van and almost all of the comments are about the toaster, lolol. How does everyone except for us know that it's a toaster? 😂😂
@@retrorevivals because I’m old!!
😂😂😂
I can't wait to see these projects develop!!! I love what you two are doing and it's so fun to watch the progress.
It would be awesome if you planned to raffle off one of the campers when you're done!
Oh my gosh, that would be so awesome if we could. So far, the channel and RV projects are definitely costing us more $ than we're making so we're not quite to that point yet but, maybe someday!
We had a 79 Dodge van conversion with a turtle shell top like that. Loved it! The headlights could actually be easily replaced instead of growing more cloudy every day. Those were the days. Now hubby turns 75 in a couple weeks. How did that happen??? Enjoy the restoration. It will make for great memories when you suddenly turn 75.
They don't make them like that anymore 😁. We're fans of simplicity. Wish your husband a happy birthday from us 😉.
Can't wait to see u guys start working on the project
Thanks, we're excited too!
That pan inside the van looks something like my battery pan on my Chevy van that holds the house battery I would paint it just like the Scooby-Doo van lol lol
That's good to know. I didn't look closely enough to see where the house battery,if it had one, might be. Scooby-Doo is cool but I think we'll go with something more traditional😉. Thanks for the comment 😁
One of my favourite channels. I like your dynamics 🙂
Greetings from Finland.
That's amazing, thanks so much!
Super Duper! Congrats!
Thank you! 🎉
Thanks for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching 🎉
The middle spot on the wooden cupholder was for an ash tray. Really excited about watching this restoration!
Ah, that makes sense! We're excited to get started on this project soon! Thanks for tuning in 💚
My thought was a thermos, but now ash tray seems obvious 😅
Oh lord, you two are gluttons for punishment but I'm TOTALLY HERE FOR IT!!! You are so entertaining to watch!
We certainly are but glad to have you joining in on the fun!
I had one just like that one 20 years ago same top . My site up was starting from the drives seat a Queen bed on drawer slides under it was the water tank . Behind that was cabinet with a 3 burner cook top next in line was the sink on a kitty corner. At the drivers side back door was the grey water tank next was that ice box. Then a wall with a kitty corner closet ( bathroom ) then 1 foot wide cabin next to the side door. up top over the front seats was a pull out bed 3 pieces of ply wood it slides out over the side doors . In the back above the back doors was cabinet.
Thanks for the comment! We're looking forward to bringing this old van back to life! There seems to be so much potential there; hopefully we aren't biting off more than we can chew! Thanks for watching!
Let's tinker with a van ! As for biting more tan you can chew. I just did a 1993 Ford Weekender (30 Amp power 2 burn cook top sink Wall Ac in the back not in the window microwave all factor) To bring it up for traveling New window AC new Microwave (Walmart ) new distributor with cap tune up air gas oil filter's radiator water pump thermostat All the hoses 4 shock's 4 new 10 ply tire's $1,000 bucks. When I did the coolant system I put in HEAD GASKET SEALOR (A liquid ) just in case . Its Drivable but Still needs junk yard springs. I know I should film it for UA-cam @@retrorevivals
I think a baby blue and white outside would be so cute.
That would be cute!
I'm looking forward to seeing this one going forward!
We are too! 🎉
That “thing” you pulled out of the cabinet where the electric skillet was….the brown square thing….is a very old toaster! You put 4 pieces of bread around the sides of it, set it over a gas burner….it worked great! Hope you can understand what I am talking about!
Sure, that makes sense. We enjoy learning new things from the comments. Thanks!
I have only recently discovered your channel and I love what you do ! I’m only in Southern Indiana as a neighbor ! My son’s wife was from Battle Creek Michigan !
The journey begins-again! Looking forward to follow along! This time for the first start to finish for me!
That's awesome! Welcome to the channel! We'll be working on this one and the Holiday Rambler too (plus we're still not finished with Harvey) but this van is going to be a much bigger project than the Rambler so we'll probably have much more time focused on it. Thanks for watching!
That bird feeder looking thing is a stove top toaster, turn on your burner set it on the burner, put your bread slices on the uprights, then flip them over toast the other side to your liking.
Thanks for the comment 😁. We'd never seen a toaster like that before. We learn new things all the time😉. Thanks again for sharing.
When I was growing up, we had one of those toasters for tent and trailer camping...it works great and toasts really fast.
The thing you thought was a bird feeder is a toaster that goes over the stove eye.
Well, that makes more sense! What kind of van camper puts out a bird feeder? 😂
Good luck you will need it!
Thanks! We appreciate the support 😉
I LOVE the old vans ! I had a 1970 Dodge tradesman 100 back in the 90,s loved that van!,,Have fun with this one .
Thanks! We're excited 🎉
Hope this comes out awesome.
Yes, we do too! Thanks for the comment!
I vote "keep it retro"!! Such a cool project! Looking forward to this journey.❤😊
We'll definitely plan to keep a vintage vibe but will need to update to more modern amenities and, of course, de-poopify it 😂
Thanks for your service. I also served too 15 years Army and Navy. My wife is from Saginaw
We live in Kentucky. We still go up to Michigan every year. Actually we are going up this summer. I love your videos please keep them coming. I love your videos for Harvey
You're welcome! And thank you for your service 🇺🇸😉. Michigan is the place to be in the summer! Not so much right now. Cold and wet. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching 😁.
The weird tower thing at 25:15 is a camp toaster. U put the thing over a burner and set toast on the sides.
Thanks for the comment! That makes way more sense than a bird feeder 😂
I'm in the process of going and looking at a van almost like yours. With plenty of elbow grease one can do just about anything; the best of luck to you both. Bring that baby back to life. Arriba
Awesome! Good luck with your project. We're excited to get started on ours 😁
Love it
Thank you! ❤️
I’m late to comment but Junior as in Harvey Junior has a nice ring to it.
We haven't named our little van yet so you're not too late! Thanks for the suggestion!
Pretty sure the Bird Feeder is a toaster! Very cool.
It seems like everyone in the free world knew that except for us, LOL. Thanks, Nick 😊
Can’t wait to watch you guys work on this! You two are very funny. I think it will be worth redoing the van. We know it will be great when your done!
Thank you! We're excited too!
I can’t wait to see the renovation of this van and I think it’s worth a renovation.
Thanks! We're excited to get started on it 🎉
The van is a good idea for you. best of luck.
Thank you!
The ‘bird feeder’ is actually a toaster. Place over the eye/burner of the stove and toast your bread.
Thought I had the first comment on that toaster. Good job.
Thanks! That's good to know.!
You two are awesome! I'd love to find a partner that was into van rebuilding stuff like you 2
We try to have fun! Thanks for watching 🎉🎉
The small WD40 can is a give-away sample. Tom Ireland
That's awesome! We had never seen anything like it!
Hope we see more of this revival! Great channel!
Thank you!! We'll get started on this one soon. Keep watching 😁
Awesome buy! I think that birdhouse you found is a vintage campfire toaster for bread! Loving your projects. I’m all in!
Thank you! We're excited for what's to come! And, yes, a toaster, not a bird feeder, sheesh!
Ahhh love the van. Definitely think it's a keeper. Can't wait to see it turn into a great camper. I'm almost 80 but if I had it in camping condition I would love to proudly pull into the campgrounds with It. Have fun bringing this find to life.
We're hoping to make it a show-stopper for sure! We need to make sure it runs first though! Thanks again for watching!
What a find! Looking forward to this new project..I enjoyed the tour .. Molly 🌷
Thanks, Molly! We're excited too 🎉
I have a 1977 ford 350 van with a high top! It’s a rust bucket but we got it running.
Great job! Are you going to redo it?
@@retrorevivals it was originally a camper van, but was gutted out when I bought it for 1,200 due to leaks. Last summer I resealed around the high top, put tongue and groove cedar on the side walls. (Smells so good!) And put some laminated flooring down. I have a Colman cot, and some recycled shelving to hold kitchen gear. It’s pretty cozy for me and the 4 dogs. I’m really lucky to live in a small remote town with logging roads. It has high clearance and climbs right up the mountain. The rusting is far to gone for my abilities or income level to fix. I’m just going to enjoy it for as long as I can 😁. I absolutely love being able to stand up in it. I hope the best for your rebuild. A family friend helped me replace the basics… cap and rotor, spark plugs, vacuum lines. The gas gauge didn’t work so I brought it to an old school mechanic who helped remove the gas tank and replaced the floater valve inside and replaced the gas lines. And a few other things… well worth the 900 dollars for security of mind. It runs really well now. I love it in all its ugly glory…. Lol
I’m glad these things are still on the road, and that man who drove by yours saved it from the car crushers!!! I bet if you ever resold it he’d buy it in a minute lol !!
I love your channel by the way, you have such a kind and supportive back and forth with each other as a couple. And your son getting ready to enter driving privileges Whoo hoo! I remember those days. Super cute how you call him Jackie ( from one to another).
Sounds like you certainly extended the life of your van! We're really looking forward to getting started on ours. I don't know if you saw it but we're putting up a pole barn that we can use as a shop. Hopefully just a couple more weeks and it'll be up. Then we'll be able to really get to work. Thanks for you kind comments about the channel. We've been working really hard and having fun. We love when the kids want to be involved but it's not always easy. They're at that age where their parents aren't always the most fun people to be around for some reason 😂.
@@retrorevivals haha! Understand completely!
It’s so kickass, green is one of my favourite colours. Lil Harvey junior. These van are hilarious… my first gig starting out on the ambulance was with a humongous company that’s well know that has a 3 letter name 🤔😉 like no one knows AMR, anyways… they had 2 1988 or 89 Chevy vans with the flat face like this and it was a race to get one of those ambulances when I worked on the 12 hour shifts because it had this gigantic old school light bar. Federal Q like a fire engine and had no power steering so it was just funny to drive. One thing it did have was space for days in the back 😂. There was nowhere to store our possebox errrm clipboard with runsheets and if you forgot and left it on the dashboard going lights and sirens you take a turn and it would fly off and hit you in the chest 😂 now this was an aluminium 2.25 inch thick clipboard 😂. Glorious times. Memory lane, now I’m an old crusty 46 year old paramedic 😂🤦🏽♂️… horns rule! 🤘🏾😈 thank you for your service Tyler! 🇺🇸
Isn't it a beaut?!? Old and crusty at 46? Nah, we're just getting started at life in our mid-40's, right?? You do have some good memories of the "good ol days" though! You're lucky your clipboards and stuff didn't just fly right out the window. There isn't much space in the front of these bad boys. The horns are sweet though. We're looking forward to digging into it more but probably should spend a little time on the Rambler first.
It looks like split pea green.
Oh yes, for sure!
I’m so glad you have another project… I love watching you guys so much and harvey is almost done…. This will be great! ❤️🇨🇦
Thanks, Jack! We definitely have our work cut out for us.
I did not think you could find a worse rig to work on then the Dodge you exceed my expectations ten fold
Haha! 😆 Always glad when we can exceed someone's expectations!
haha!! These folk know what to do… lol looking forward to seeing the progress how about you?
It needs some giant flower decals on it!
Ooh, make a real hippie van out of it? We'll see!
Love watching you guys always make me laugh..
Thanks for watching! 🎉
That rusty square thing you found is a 4 slice bread toaster. You put it on a burner and put your bread on the sides. Awesome van. I once had a 1970 Ford Van.
We're excited about this van! Thanks for the toaster info too... I think we're the only ones that didn't know it was a toaster at this point 😂
Hey, this is proof you guys are certifiably insane - and I love you all even more for that (I can relate!). Seriously though, I can't wait to see this one transform like the first one, which is seriously impressive.
I did want to chime in on that odd metal thingy you couldn't identify while going through the drawers and cabinets. I think it might be an old-fashioned toasting thing, in which you have a source of heat underneath and the bread laid on each side. After a bit you'd have to manually turn over the bread to toast on the other side. I may be wrong though lol.
What's great about these videos is that you have a great record of the before state, so you get extra satisfaction out of your hard work. All the best to you guys!
Thanks so much for relating to our insanity! It seems that everyone knew that was a toaster except for us 😂😂. We're excited 🎉
Cant wait to see this one
Thanks! We're excited too 🎉
I want one of those Ford Econoline camper vans soooo bad!! We travel back and forth to Cincinnati to visit our kids and grandkids. One of these would make it so much more comfortable....renovated of course...lol
Isn't it the coolest?!? We have high hopes for the renovation!
That reminds me of the van in the TV show "Ironsides"
I looked up images online. Pretty cool Econoline. It would've been new back then 😁
Ok the little WD40 was adorable! ❤️🇨🇦
It is adorable for sure 😊

Thanks so much for the comment, we're excited too!
I’m looking forward to the fun you’ll bring to us as you restore/revive the van. 🤣 By the way, the “bird feeder” is actually a toaster. It goes on a propane burner. When cooking breakfast at the campsite, we use ours on our Coleman stove. It makes the best toast!
Thanks for letting us know. I guess if you burn the toast,it can then double as a bird feeder 😜! Thanks for the comment.
Great deal, have fun!
Thanks! 🎉
Love this van! I have the same one without the topper and it's just a great time driving it! Can't wait to see yalls progress to such a treasure ❤
That's awesome! Is yours a campervan or an original passenger van?
@retrorevivals mine is a passenger van but I think the campervans are beautiful one day I'll have one!
I would enjoy seeing more on this Econoline. Super cool van. And it could really be awesome once it's done. Sure does need a lot of work. But I have faith in you guys. Great content fun to watch 😍😎👍
We definitely have ideas for the Econoline. Hopefully we can start on it soon. Just a few other projects going on right now. Keep watching! Thanks for the comment 😁
That birdfeeder is actually a toaster, I think
Well, that makes more sense than a bird feeder!
