    Every time I see under the hood of an old truck or car, I start seeing things I would immediately improve. Intake, ignition, exhaust, brakes, cooling, electrical, wheels/tires, brakes...not for custom touches or such, but for safety, reliability and comfort

      @retrorevivals  10 місяців тому +2

      I think a lot of the same things. They're is something to be said for simplicity but modern reliability is pretty nice too😉.

    What a treat!! I tried to restore cars in the past, and had the varmints take up residency, and it was very difficult to get rid of them as you found out. For the past few years, I’ve been trying to get rid of or reduce the squirrel and rat population, and I finally had to get rid of my chickens to reduce the Varmit population. I have been fixing up my 1997 Ford ranger which I bought new. It has been fun Project. There’s no varmints and just about everything is original with only 157,000 miles so she’s a beauty! Next up is a quote for a paint job. The bench seat is so ooo comfortable and original.

    I know you weren't trying to be funny -you were so serious and knowledgeable, sharing information about the truck body and engine. Christy is panning around the engine compartment like: 'Sure that's all good, but OMG look at this walnut disaster!' I had to chuckle because that is exactly what I would do. My OCD kicked in and I couldn't wait for you to get the ShopVac out and clean it out. 😄
    The kids out there in the plaid pj/golf pants were perfect. I kept wondering if one of them was going to be sporting a pair of white wingtips. Hope you are feeling better Christy.

    Trust me i fully understand the walnut situation and the ground squirrel chewed on wiring harnesses, especially since i had to park my 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed 1500 318 magnum V8 4x4 by the black walnut tree but in the other driveway anyway id moved the truck in the morning to take my son down to the end of the driveway and wait for his bus it was raining and i parked the truck back where it was id noticed it had a Miss didn't think much of it and the ac compressor clutch wiring connector pigtail had been chewed off for over a month at the time and before that it blew cold ac, and i go to get in the truck that afternoon to go wait for my son to get home from and it didn't even crank over,,, and i looked under the hood and the ground squirrel was going down the back of the motor to the transmission and the map sensor connector was no longer connected and it shares the ground wire between several different sensors including the tps and fuel pump relay and the crank sensor so it doesn't run currently,, it was a strong running truck for a 318 magnum V8, and the miss it the ground squirrel chewed on the injector cylinder 7 connector pigtail off as well.. so

      Anyways i am wanting to find me a 68-71/72 Ford truck preferably a sport custom or custom cab camper special trim truck to build a rat rod shop truck project out of and trade my dodge ram for..

    • @retrorevivals
      @retrorevivals  10 місяців тому

      I love the old bump sides. You may have to look down south or out west to find a good candidate. But if it's going to be a rat rod project,a little rust is to be expected,right?

    • @retrorevivals
      @retrorevivals  10 місяців тому

      Crazy squirrels! So destructive

    • @richardbates2367
      @richardbates2367 10 місяців тому

      Yeah i am not worried about a little bit of rust, and if i have to patch the bed and the floors who cares it's gonna be a rat rod shop truck lol .. and as far as rust even my 2000 dodge ram has some rust but it has a solid floors set and the frame.and a really decent shape OEM second gen ram longbed and i keep seeing the rust free examples no lights or tailgate $1,750 is the cheapest one I've seen, mine is probably a $950 bed.

    Who needs brakes when you have a hill to roll down?? All those pesky little details that somehow end up being important. Who knew?? So here's a fun fact... it turns out, it's not so much the project as it is the characters involved in the project. Watching you two work on anything together is worth the time. Recording in 18 degree temps, bringing back memories of those bone numbing days is a great way to remember why those days are now part of history!! The Midwest fun facts are also pretty entertaining. Mud bogging is one I have to say I don't recall. Now it feels like I've missed part of my Midwest upbringing.☹
    The good news is my HaRVey shirt came through, and it rocks!! Good work on the merch!!

      Patina started to be cool around 10 years ago, give or take. I'm lucky my shortbox was parked at my grandparents an hour away or I would have most definitely made the same decision as far as paint. Imo the trucks with mismatched (factory) colored panels have their own charm. Besides a used hood that color shouldn't be to hard to find... my bud just bought a parts truck with 1 actually. Its dentside though and I'm not 100% on interchangeability.

    At one point during the 30's, 40's and 50's Walnut was the most common wood used to make fine furniture!
    I was such a sought after wood that walnut trees were almost wiped out in the U.S.
    There wasn't reforestation laws in effect yet.
    Now a days, walnut boards are very expensive, and vintage walnut is highly sought after.
    Take pride in your soon to be stash you have!

    the cool thing about the 67 F100s is that one year only grill, it the best looking grill that ever came on a bumpside. check out TheCraig909 youtube channel he has a white patina bumpside and im pretty sure he did a how to video on how to Re-patina a freshly painted whire body panel and maybe you could redo the hood. if you want to protect your patina check out Poppy's patina wipe on clear coat. this was a nice surprice i cam here for camper roof repairs and found an old Ford bumpside too, im in Rochester and re-doing a old Scotty camper so maybe we'll run into each other at the Dreamcruise or a campground. i just subscribed👍
