  • I think I found a very rare Porsche 928!! This could possibly be one of one. Yes the only one that exists! In this video we go through the car why I think it is one of one and get it to run.

Great that you are saving this 928.
I agree this looks in many ways it has more like 113. Or 213k miles. Either the odo stopped working or car was redone and they rolled the miles back to 0 that happens all the time.
The one owner maybe be fibbing.
The early cars as mentioned most had manual vs later 80s > most where automatic.
With the S4 cars only 20% came to US with Manual.
The wheels on this 928 are not magnesium but an Alloy. The only phone dials that are Magnesium are Turbo cup 16" x 8" and 16 x 9" from 1987 1988
Also Pasha often fades from a black/ silver to a more blue green ish but if this is documented blue that really is cool.
I saw Sierra madre collection sells the material for doing Pasha seats over.
Good luck with the build and wishing you luck with getting this one back to is former glory.
Im hoping to find one in Minerva Blue.

The fuel distributor maintains a constant pressure in all fuel rails. Constant Injection System (CIS).
The “vacuum leak” you pointed out earlier is actually part of the Injection Air Pump (AKA Smog Pump). Most early 928 owners just delete it. There are some plugs available to purchase that plug the holes in the back of the heads where the Injection Air Pump piping go in.
Since you have good fuel pressure after the filter, and injectors seem to have good flow, my guess is (if it’s indeed a fuel issue) the fuel distributor has buildup in the channels, or the little filters that are inside it for each individual fuel rail. There are rebuild kits available. But start with the regulator valve on the fuel distributor first before rebuilding it. That’s usually the culprit with fuel distributor problems. It could also be a sticky sensor plate in the CIS plenum that is causing any fueling issues. Easy way to confirm is just push it down, and it should freely come back up on its own. I don’t think it’s an issue with the WUR, since it takes a minute or two for the heating element to warm up to the point to cut off the cold start valve.
However, before I would do any of that, first thing I would do is confirm timing on the actual distributor (electric one). Possibly even confirm the timing belt hasn’t jumped any teeth. My first impression when I heard it run in this video is it was way out of time. Which could also explain the fouled spark plugs. Don’t worry about interference issues if it is out of time… the 4.5L’s were not interference engines, regardless if it’s US or Euro Spec. Later engines were, but not yours.
I’m going to be completely honest with you, brother… these earlier Porsche 928’s are notoriously difficult to work on. They are definitely worth the effort in my opinion, but unless one is really familiar with these cars, it can quickly turn into a nightmare for them. Good luck. Renlist is an excellent source for info on these cars.

I'm restoring a euro 78 right now...... expect 20K+ to restore!..... Pasha isn't that rare, just more desirable. BTW, my car is mocha Black w/pasha interior. Easiest car to change plugs on BTW. First thing you need to do is, clean all the grounds!.... That can take care of a lot of electrical items, and doesn't cost anything to do..... also, drop the fuel tank and clean it, also put a new fuel strainer in the tank. Early cars had two pumps...one in the tank and one under (behind) the tank.

Wouldn't the "cold start valve" be the control pressure regulator? Also known as the warm up regulator. Own a Volvo with the same K-Jetronic fuel system. Cold start injector is mounted to the intake manifold after the throttle body. Has a blue connector on it. BTW: the fuel distributor doesn't spin. K-Jet (CIS) is a batch fire system, just like L-Jetronic or LH-Jetronic, just mechanical. The 400-500 rpm idle makes me think that the airflow sensor plate isn't being pulled up enough, since there's no vacuum being supplied by the throttle body, which is why there's no engine speed change when the throttle plate is opened. Instead, it's acting like a shutoff valve. I bet once the airbox is in place, it may actually run decently.
Another way to test injector flow is to turn the key on, jumper the fuel relay so the pump operates, then either pull up or push down on the airflow sensor plate. 4 cylinder cars typically require that the plate be lifted, whereas V6 and V8 cars would typically require the plate to be depressed. On a 928, it looks to be more like a 4 cylinder car, so you probably need to lift the plate. Fuel should flow evenly out of all of the injectors at the same time.

    1. The fuel distributor does not spin internally to distribute fuel.
    2. What you pointed out as the cold start injector is actually the warm up regulator (no intake under it) the cold start injector is in the middle front of the “spider”
    3. The pasha looks like it was black that has faded, not blue.
    4. The K-jetronic fuel system is all about correct pressure. From your drip test with the lines cracked it shows there’s probably an issue inside the fuel distributor.
    5. The earlier comment about the supposed vacuum leak is correct. Those parts on that side of the engine are for the smog pump and don’t really contribute to how the car actually runs.
Wish your customer best of luck with the project!

Thanks for the comment. I am very aware that the fuel distributor doesn’t spin! I don’t know why I said that. It was very late when I was working on the car. I have rebuilt many of them. Also I do know that is the WUR again it was late. As for the blue pasha, it is blue as I have the window sticker from the car and it says it as an option. I do appreciate the input. Thanks for watching.

I have one here... 1978 euro petrol blue with blue pasha interior here for work also :) Someone painted it red and put a drunken 80s sunroof in it. 1/2inch out of square and an inch out of the center... It needs a lot of work too... Your running issue is likely the WUR making to high of a control pressure... You will have two fuel pumps make sure both are working.. I own 5 78s you are welcome to msg me if you need info.

Are you sure about the 15k mileage cause under the hood looks like a mess compared to my 86 with 180k miles with original fuel pump relay. Why spark plugs were replace at such a low mileage? Did the 79s have MAF sensors if missing it won't run right.

You need to get rid of the 20-year-old gasoline, right? Pretty sure that gasoline is your problem. Before you ruin the engine with it, dump all the gas and get new gas for it. Could also be the fuel connector from the tank. They get funked up from the bad fuel.

One nightmare facing you, will be refreshing the relay / fuse panel; all the wires in back are the same color gray, so you will have to label every single one so you can put it back together correctly. Otherwise, looks like a decent find. Good luck!
