I kinda remember during their episode of Ford VS Ferrari pt 2 where a guy who owns a Ford French dealership(who known to crash cars than race them) crashes the GT40 after doing a lap around the circuit, but the guy survived and only had a scar on his forehead

The final XJ220 was a compromise on top of a compromise; the XJ220 was originally planned to be a V12 - the same that was in the XJR-15 Sport (also developed by TWR). Due to budget limitations, it ended up with the V6 Twin Turbo from the Group B rally Mini Metro instead. People put in pre-orders for XJ220s and were disappointed when what they got had half the number of cylinders they were promised.

History of the v8 supercars: Holden put larger engines in the vauxhall viva and opel ascana and call it a torana to compete with Ford. Skylines dominate, skylines banned. Holden start using Chevy engines then revert back to vauxall before closing down. The end.

The Diablo is the perfect don't meet your heroes car. Chrysler had the honors of making one of the only Lamborghinis that was horrible to drive. They went for neither crazy exciting or luxurious, instead meeting in the bland and undrivable middle.
possibly, but I've heard the vaunted Countach is also a pretty horrible car to drive...and it's kinda slow to boot
@@matthewreise120 I've never driven a Countach but I've ridden in one, and the 450hp is surprisingly quick but nothing crazy. The intake sound is to die for. I think the Countach works because it has all of the quirkiness and lack of practicality but makes up for it in a ton of character in the driving experience. The Diablo was slightly worse in handling but lacked the personality to make up for it. Only with 90s Chrysler quirks instead of italian endearing ones.
The most accurate description of the Diablo I've heard is that it drives like a mid-engine BMW 850CSI, if you can visualize that.
@@joeleonard9965 well, you obviously have more real world experience with that car than I do (was just basing my comment on various UA-cam vids). I think “quirky “ is probably the best way to summarize the Countach from what I can tell. Also never drove/ridden in a BMW 850CSI, so I’ll take your word for it! Take care man, have a good night!

As an Italian I can confirm the accuracy of James’s and Joe’s Italian
Just going off data that was quickly available 2,885 Diablos were sold with an msrp ~$239,000 and 30 GTRs were sold at ~$310,000, bringing total revenue from Diablos to $698,576,000.00. If Diablo posters were sold at $5 it would mean that 139,715,201 posters would need to be sold to beat revenue from the actual Diablo. According to the world bank, 29.83% of the world population of 6.19B were kids (1-14) in 2001, which would mean 7.6% of kids around the world would need to have had posters (@$5) to beat revenue from the car.
I actually had a Carmen Electra poster but not a Diablo poster. Obviously the Diablo is BOSS- but my heart was still set on a Countach. (Countach is a weird word). I actually sat in a Countach once!
Also the Countach seemed plenty big enough at the time- then again I was eight. (Eight is also a weird word).

Pleased to hear you mentioned the Tatra MTX - you should've shown a photo as it's a great-looking car too. It's worth mentioning that MTX wasn't the model as such - MTX was another car manufacturer who worked together with Tatra on the project - I've heard the car also referred to as the MTX Tatra.

Sooo, my hot take from the question posed in the intro is: We'll probably never see another supercar golden age like the one in the 90's. There's, effectively, another HP war happening now but, what separates the time periods is, the 90's was a decade that, (IMO), had enough variance in the personality of the manufacturers and approach to individual cars, that they mostly had substantially different personalities and approaches. That still holds largely true but there's a sort of convergence/singularity happening now. Between economy standards and features-buyers/focus groups reinforcing the idea that everything needs to be in everything, sports cars are being dulled in personality, if not quantifiably. And that choose your own adventure/weapon/vibe/style, etc, is being whittled down.
Now, this isn't to say new super and sub-supercars aren't amazing. F$*k ya, they are. Technology has progressed every aspect of cars with sporting intentions... Except, arguably, the visceral. That's a lot of why, older, slower cars are fetching a premium. You can't fake feel.

So many comments about the sound of V10's? I believe he is stating that the writer composed it as "10 cylinders" instead of V-10. The wording sounded poor to him, not the engine.
I had a crazy dream last night that i was going up a hill in my lambo, couldnt stop so i smashed into someone then someone crashed into me from behind which launched the lambo and I over the street and into a parkinglot. I was bummed but my friend said i could get some uprgraded parts with the insurance money so it wasnt all bad. It gets crazier cause after being at a fast food place with the tow truck lady and some friends i woke up from some wierd sounds. Turns out someone was breaching from a dive out of the nearby hole leading into the ocean. After a few minutes talking to these dudes I knew I was in another dream and started slapping myself to wake up which worked.
