One of my favorite Nintendo 64 games all time is grand prix. But I never followed the sport. I only know Schumacher because of Nintendo. But I agree that formula 1 show got me wanting to follow the sport in real life now!
Another great podcast guys, thanks again! It is interesting to note that Nolan declares Roland Ratzenberger "died instantly" as under Italian law this would cause the race meeting to be suspended , therefore Sagis, the company owing F1 would lose around 6.5 million dollars and Senna would not lose his life. We can assume then that Roland died after leaving the track, in the same way that no-one dies at Disney
Yea Joe, that shit hit me hard too, I was 13 or 14, a huge F1 fan, and a huge Senna fan. I watched that race live on TV with my dad. I couldn't finish watching the race after it happened. My dad came and told me about 3 hours later that he passed...I didn't watch an F1 race for 5 years until 1999 when Schumacher was driving for Ferrari. Another amazing era in Formula 1, the V10 era.
There is a really great book from Adrian Newey (co designer of Senna’s car) called “How To Build A Car” it goes kinda into detail on what part(s) failed during the crash. Great guy to make an episode about as well!!
you guys should do episodes on the 2005 f1 US GP, Hesketh f1 team (the founder had a really interesting interview on the beyond the grid podcast) and Michael Schumacher .... btw love the channel!
Abarth and Alfa Romeo perhaps, but Maserati has been on a roll since releasing the MC20, Grecale, and Granturismo. I have high hopes for them in the future.
I would absolutely LOVE an f1 podcast from you guys, basically the only people who can completely keep me understanding what you are talking about without making me feel stupid.
The whole legal saga of the Italian courts going after Williams is told really well in Adrian Newey's book, How To Build A Car. Jules Bianchi was F1's last fatality but not a race-day fatality, he died 9 months later.
Another great podcast. Just some added info: Senna's steering column was modified to be longer so he would be more comfortable in the cockpit, his idea. And the Tamburello section at Imola is very bumpy, which is theorized played a major role with Senna's steering column breaking. You can get an idea how bumpy it really is when watching the in-car video right before the accident. Keep up the excellent work guys. 💪
F1 History is epically cool. I do have a couple suggestions for future pod casts. 1) An episode on the history of a 9 time NASCAR champion that most young racing fans have never heard of; Richie Evans! The man absolutely dominated the Modified series and was salt of the earth guy who worked hard, drove hard and partied hard. Outside of the North East few people are familiar with Modifieds but they were the premier NASCAR class in the early days before Bill France Sr. decided it would be more lucrative to have the "Stock Cars" and the Grand National division take the top spot. And 2nd) an episode on the other short track oval class that was born in NY the Supermodifieds! A car so sick that it features active aero like an F1 car, 800hp+ ,1,850lbs and when ran on the same track as the IRL many of the Supermodifieds were ticking off lap times on par with Indy Cars (believe that was at Phoenix). They're the fastest short track cars on the planet! and if the rules hadn't hampered development the cars could've been even more insane! Check out the rear engine AWD car campaigned for 1 season back in the 70s built by Jim Shampine.
might not be about this forthcoming episode, but i saw hi/low cars in the vault today, and it was the greatest surprise. lowcar's windshield accessory was too funny ;). thanks for leaving them down there!
1994 was a crazy year for motosports in general, in Le mans the legendary group gt1 was created and cars like the skyline, supra and nsx raced altogether (also the bpr gt global series was created ) meanwhile in rally the Toyota's Turbo scandal exploded meaning that they would get disqualified. At Nascar Dale Earnhardt won his seventh tying petty´s record
They need to make a couple of branches of the past gas podcast dedicated to specific motorsports, for example a channel for F1, a channel for Motogp, Nascar, Rally, Etc. And the actual past gas for general topics abt cars
"If you remember what happened in San Marino in 1994, there's probably a growing pit in your stomach." I didn't experience it, but it doesn't help I was born the same month *that* incident happened.
YES PLEASE DO SOME MORE F1 PODCASTS there so informative and entertaining need I say but yes I know I would definitely love to hear more F1 podcasts!!!!!!!!!
Hi guys, could you made some video where "the beast of Turin" is present? It's a realy cool car, it has a 28 liter i4 engine. Or "the brutus" with a 46l v12. Could be like some video about the old cars with big airplane engines and stuff. Just a suggestion.
Honestly I feel like F1 has a lot of podcasts dedicated to it. I think it would be nice to have a Donut F1 podcast, but it would be nicer to hear about more other motorsports.
The Benetton B194 by then had an early version of the "Blown Diffuser" as used by Red Bull in the 2010's, thus the engine sound which had an impression of traction control. What was sketchy on the Benetton was the "Option 13" setting. Look it up, it's Launch Control activated at the start. Also notable was the quicker refuel due to a removed filter/apparatus on the refueling hose. Also, considering the team principal then was Flavio Briatore, morality isn't really a strong point. Same Flavio Briatore, now at Renault, was involved in the 2008 Singapore GP "Crashgate" scandal, a race won by Fernando Alonso in said Renault.
Just watched the Emilia Romagna GP at Imola, way to plan the release of this topic boys, fitting. Also, Nolan, you're right, there are only four champs on the current grid as well as a Schumacher.
Another idea: can we get a podcast about 1900’s - 1940’s prop planes and their engines? I think that would be pretty cool! You guys like big plane engines in cars right?
the redbull isn't tailored to max, it's just that the high rake concept creates more theoretical downforce but less stable overall, max can just manage it better than the other drivers have been able too.
Hey team Donut. Really starting to get into the podcasts you guys are making and a nice addition to the shorter format UA-cam videos. I have an idea which is in a bit of a niche market but I believe it would get a heap of views, especially in the Aussie and NZ fan base. To do an in-depth podcast about Peter Brock, arguably the best touring car driver we have ever had in Australia. He pretty much won the championships in whatever cup he was racing in and was, and still is just about a household name to anyone who followed motorsport here in Australia and NZ. He was tragically killed doing what he loved doing in a Targa west rally in Western Australia in ‘06 and shook the nation from his loss as one of the all time greats in touring car driving not only here in Australia but in many other parts of the Motorsport world. He drove cars from Holden , Ford, Chevrolet, BMW and even a BNR GT-R Skyline to name a few. Anyway I hope it’s something you guys could explore for a future episode. Thanks and keep up the great work. Jim ✌️🙂
45th! Fire dup
Pretty cool uploading this right after the Emilia Romagna GP 🇮🇹
Such a good race today!
@@Grooove_e so slippery sheesh. I think its Redbulls time.
I'm hella down for an F1 podcast. Just finished Formula 1: Drive to Survive, so I'm on a bit of an F1 craze.
One of my favorite Nintendo 64 games all time is grand prix. But I never followed the sport. I only know Schumacher because of Nintendo. But I agree that formula 1 show got me wanting to follow the sport in real life now!
Look up WTF1. Do podcasts on each race
@wtf1 is the best for your f1 fill
@@geoffreybuckmaster4175 nah WTF1 is cringed upon in the F1 community
You should start watching actual races, there’s one tomorrow. And despite what the other replies say, WTF1 is pretty cringe.
I would definitely love an F1 Podcast!
Another great podcast guys, thanks again! We can assume then that Roland died after leaving the track, in the same way that no-one dies at Disney
A full on F1 podcast would be dope I’ll definitely watch every on of em!!!
I think the reason people don’t want a over dominant force in racing is because it’s so fun to root for the underdog
Yea Joe, that shit hit me hard too, I was 13 or 14, a huge F1 fan, and a huge Senna fan. I watched that race live on TV with my dad. I couldn't finish watching the race after it happened. Not sure if you guys know this but Sabine Schmitz sadly died about a month ago. I would love to hear a Past Gas on The Queen Of The Nurburgring.
RIP Nurburgring Queen
that imola race today was sick
you guys should do episodes on the 2005 f1 US GP, Hesketh f1 team (the founder had a really interesting interview on the beyond the grid podcast) and Michael Schumacher .... btw love the channel!
Just finished watching Imola, and Max verstappen just left the rest of the field in his dust
Day 142 of asking for the team to design a Dirty Dirk's Blinker Drink T-shirt from the Wheelhouse: Car Terms Every Car Nerd Needs To Know
Past Gas on Abarth, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati. Please make them, for I don’t think those brands have a lot of time left, especially here in the States.
I'm a huge f1 fan and I would definitely appreciate an F1 podcast! I'd watch for sure!
Dr. Hannibal enters the chat at 5:00
You guys have grown on me so much i now look forward to this every sunday.
Love it when they talk about F1
The whole legal saga of the Italian courts going after Williams is told really well in Adrian Newey's book, How To Build A Car.
Jules Bianchi was F1's last fatality but not a race-day fatality, he died 9 months later.
Please make an F1 podcast. A comedy review of each race would be awesome. I'd go from Donut to WTF1 on stitcher each Monday after a race weekend.
The way the stewards flipped Barrichello's car over is insane, all you see is his neck wobbling violently from side to side
When he said creed I thought the band too! Do 2 a week! Love you guys! Keep it juiced!
Another great podcast. Just some added info: Senna's steering column was modified to be longer so he would be more comfortable in the cockpit, his idea. We the people need a past gas F1 Podblast
I read somewhere that adding to the suspicion traction control, segmented skid lines on the corner exits were found on the track.

Neat topic this week, I’d love to see Nolan’s idea of “Mexico’s greatest [automotive related] stuntman” at some point
AN F1 PODCAST WITH THE DONUT CREW WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!
Do an F1 podcast!
F1 podcast would be fire
An f1 podcast would be pretty sick tbh especially with you guys giving it a touch of comedy
I think you should do an episode on Adrian Newey and lead into the beginning of Red Bull F1
F1 podcast PLEASE
The "exactly" at 36:04 was funny. Clever guy, Joe.
yes, F1 podcast, yes
I would absolutely listen to an F1 centered Podcast! You could cover a season/rivalry per episode!
Well that was one of the bestest Nolan openogues ever. Made me invent a new word.
F1 PODCAST LETS GO BABY
might not be about this forthcoming episode, but i saw hi/low cars in the vault today, and it was the greatest surprise. lowcar's windshield accessory was too funny ;). thanks for leaving them down there!

You know what would be cool? A section of Donut run out of Detroit. Donut East. (I just want to be a member of the team without living in Cali lmao).
I'd call it the ratio between the transmission's input and output shafts
You guys should do an episode on Big Daddy Don Garlits!
I really need a donut f1 podcast in my life
