Tumblr Senior over here. Just want to clarify some stuff that usually gets ignored:
- Predstrogen had an old account (whose name I can't 100% recall rn) where they were constantly harrassed and sent threats to. After that account was banned for mass reportings, she made a new account, where people recognized her and continued to harrass with transphobic remarks and send death threats. At no point was the harassment stopped, and staff did NOTHING about it. But what Predstrogen is clearly violent behavior worth banning, ofc
- The CEO says he "doesn't want to misgender anyone", yet continuously calls trans people by their dead names (including predstrogen) and harrasses trans people
- After the mass outbreak against the CEO, multiple trans blogs were nuked for talking against the CEO, and the few that remained received DMs from the CEO harassing them

Okay so Avery/Rita was my mutual and she was constantly harrassed and stalked on the platform. She had multiple harrassment reports filed that staff had done nothing about. When she was banned the first time, staff was really cagey about why, and the second time was after she made the hammer car explosion post (because she was pissed at staff). But honestly, thats just the surface of it. Trans women on tumblr have been systemat(t)ically flagged as explicit and banned for years now. Its honestly not safe for us on the platform anymore unfortunately.
Btw i was also someone who was dm'd personally by Matt. I didnt even know about the situation at the time.

as a tumblr user ever since reddit shut down 3rd party apps, the idea of a "tumblrina" is pretty outdated. tumblr does have a pocket of like the most terminally online people on earth but nowadays it's overall pretty edgy and abrasive in a good way

honestly, no. Tumblrinas are still pretty common. It just depends what circles you run in on the site; it's built very much in a way that tends to keep you in your own circle, unless you intentionally branch out. So your circles just aren't the tumblrina circles. As someone still very much on tumblr for fandom reasons, a solid half the people I follow outright call themselves tumblrinas, and of the other half, it's a mix of "actually reasonable people" and "terminally online (tumblrina but would be upset if you called them that)" and people who are somehow both.
But yes, all the worst people moved to twitter with the adult content ban. Some have since moved back :/

The initial situation is actually really bad. Predsteogen was on a receiving end of a long hate campaign with people sending her death threats and mass reporting her accounts to get them banned, and the staff not doing anything about that. Then she posted how she's sick of the constant hate and got banned for it.

The official Ignite websites will state their goal as like "sparking public interest in new topics," but I've yet to see an ignite speech that actually sparked interest in a new topic for me. The best ignite speeches are just fun ideas delivered in a well-rehearsed and simple format. "The Taxonomic Classification of Monsters" was the winning speech at the Ignite event I spoke at.

The other satellite who is also sapient is completely bewildered by this but is otherwise supportive. The Foundation for its part runs a bunch of tumblr blogs to keep the satellites "contained".
The explicit reference to tumblr and the Homestuck franchise broke the discussion board, to put it mildly. It was posted in the mid 10s and the article is still inviting some heated posts in the discussion every so often. For their part, the SCP wiki admins itself defended the article’s listing.

Okay, I want to point out the problem with the "we are LGBTQ+ staff members so you have to listen to us about this" post. Predstrogen was being harassed and mass reported by terfs and nazis for over a year, and had to contend the reports levied against her several times with staff admitting she'd broken no rules. Nothing was done about her harassment or the mass reporting of her sfw selfies. Staff claiming to be held down by management up top rings hallow as none of them made an attempt. It's notoriously difficult to get terfs and nazis banned off tumblr. Then there was the "scorched earth" even of 2022, where a trans user pointed out that a staff member publically posted mostly Harry Potter art and implied this might be why terfs are let slide so often. Their whole blog was nuked from orbit, as well as their post. It was the first time staff had used those measures.
And now, they started using it again during this event, where anyone posting evidence of Matt's harassment in their DMs once again got nuked from orbit.

Unironically this. I dipped when it was banned because it wasn’t just that the pr0n was removed, it weirdly felt like a lot of the soul/personality of the site was too. It was almost like the adult content mixed with the platform’s unique vibe gave it an edge that was noticeable even if you didn’t look at the pr0n blogs somehow. Now it kinda feels like a clunkier twitter and that sucks, it had a really chill/genuine atmosphere especially in the more mature spaces that went away with a lot of the users. The site obviously still has its core appeal of being an interactive blog site and it’s remaining community, but it’s just sad compared to what it was back in its peak.

The meme about the gun and the printer isn't really too far off. I mean yeah I own more tech stuff than that but I abhor a lot of it. I don't want a TV that connects to the wifi, has all the streaming apps built in, and spies on everything I do, but I can't get modern picture quality without that (well you can in commercial TVs but they are prohibitively expensive). I don't want an operating system that sends data to microsoft, but they've held a monopoly so long that that's what all the stuff runs on; if proton keeps development going the way it has been though I may be able to do a full linux migration without losing much. If my stupid $800 samsung phone installs 1 more app I didn't explicitly choose to download it may end up in a dumpster somewhere. I don't use ISP provided networking equipment, and I work for the ISP, because I don't want them automatically running every search query I make through their DNS.
Ironically just about the only pieces of tech I do have that I'm satisfied with are my printer (an old Brother laser printer that just works when I need it to and doesn't care if I use 3rd party cartridges), my little Libre Computer SBC that runs Pi-Hhle (which acts as a local DNS filter that blocks ads and trackers and forwards my actual requests to a DNS of my choosing), and my portable music player (which spends almost all of the time with it's WiFi OFF).
Technology is supposed to make life easier and it does, but data collection needs to die a quick and violent death.
