- Without doubt the Behringer TD-3 is one of the best TB-clones available, but one important question remains: where is the advertised Arpeggiator and how does a TB-typical Arpeggio sound? In this video I try to give an answer ;) Enjoy!

“And as soon as I heard it, I ordered a second one!” Love it!
😄
@@PeteMidi as soon as they announced the td3mo i put my name on the list 3 months after buy the td3
I found a very simple solution for creating lovely Arps with the TD-3. If you use Logic Pro you can connect the TD-3 as a "External Instrument" inside Logic. Then set in the TD-3 the clock "internal". Now you can load in Logic a MIDIFX ( i use XFER Cthulhu) in the TD-3 instrument. And you can play beautiful Arps with the TD-3. If there is interest in this solution i will try to make a video (never did one before) Sorry Pete dont want to hijack your thread
not excactly the same thing here. but yes you can do that and use max4live mono sequencer for example in ableton
hello Martin . do the video please :)
I don't have the TD3 yet (ordering soon), but I use Logic and am interested in this solution, please. A video would be great!

Never seen this channel before - clicked the link, jammed the arpeggiator while head-banging in my desk chair, clicked LIKE, clicked SUBSCRIBE. Done
Many thanks for the great feedback! 😄
Same here!
Really enjoy your videos, Pete. Clear, organized, and informed. Hope you keep them coming!
Thanks a lot! 😊
Of course someone from Germany came up with the solution! You guys breathe acid technology.
Thanks! 😄
One thing that Germans can be proud of, technoooo:)
Bin auch deutscher weisste:)
Und nachdem der deutsche dank dem Österreicher genug an Identität und Stolz verloren hat, is Techno definitiv wat, worauf ich stolz bin:)
TRANCE..... AND ACID!
@Imorelle was?
This exceeded my expectations about what was possible! Great, simple setup, and deft, and subtle DJ'ing on it...NICE!
Many thanks! 😊
What a brilliant idea, and what a beautiful result.
Awesome stuff! Thank you for showing us how to achieve this hack. The sequence you created sounds great.
Thanks a lot! 😊
Really Brilliant, Pete. Well Done! Entertaining talk-through, enjoyable video action - and Mesmerizing Arpeggios! Floated straight back to TD Phaedra & Rubycon, thru late 90s trance, and landed somewhere leftfield of today. You're very inspiring, Mate! Liked & subbed.
.... Time to stretch my keystep ... Vielen dank und beste grüße aus Warschau!
Thank you so much for the great feedback! 😊

😄Thank you so much!
GREAT melodies! You really made these boxes sound musical and not just 'bleepy noises'. Great job!
Thank you so much! 😊
Hi Pete, I came across this video whilst searching for TD-3.
Really rather good and has inspired me to use the arpigiator on my Arturia Keystep to drive my TD-3. It's an easy function to use, so hopefully the tunrs wibe almost as satisfying as yours.
Brian
Thanks for the nice feedback! 😊
Hi Pete! Great video and arps! I'm a longtime tb & clone owner. You've really taken it to the next level. Is your tutorial video for setting up the arpeggiator incoming any time soon? Maybe you could suggest other ways to achieve this (max for live perhaps?) Keep up the great work, I'm subbed and looking forward to more of your quality content & demos/jams! Super helpful in helping me decide which offering from Behringer is next on my shopping list. Thank you!
This was amazing ! Thank you. 🙏🏽
Thanks for the nice feedback!
After that jam, it's time to listen to some tangerines dreaming.
😄👍
The dream is always, like love on a real train
Der Wahnsinn, echt einfach geil, der sound erinnert mich ein wenig and Virus b/c arpeggios, nur einfach viel saftiger. Echt gut gemacht von dir !!!
Vielen Dank für das tolle Feedback! 😊
My old Roland mc505 with a td3 does some amazing arpeggios, I love the heavy slap. Great vid got a new sub.
Many thanks! 😊
The 505 Arp is very hard to beat in my opinion. Great Unit that I'm still using :)
Cheers Guys

😊
I am.. mesmerised that is ! Thanks
😄
I actually ended up keeping my 2nd TD-3 and couldn’t be happier!
👍👍
Great work Pete 👍
Many thanks! 😊
Great video Pete! Wow, Behringer really has a thing about over selling the arppegiation capabilities of their synths. They market the Pro 1 as having 3 patterns on their website. In reality it only has Up and Up/Down. Technically you can toggle it to OFF but, it seems cheap to consider that an arpeggiation mode.
Thanks a lot! Yes, the Behringer product descriptions are really Interesting... 😉
Well, Pro-1 is the recreation of the Sequential circuits Pro One, so of course it has only two modes. I have the Pro-1, but I rarely ever use the built in sequencer and arpeggiator, since I have that in the Keystep.
Nice sounds!
Thanks! 😊
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! awesome!
Thanks a lot for the feedback! 😊
This is clever. I have experimented with a similar implementation that only requires a single TD3. Basically I create the patterns in the TD3 sequencer, then I record them as MIDI clips into Ableton. Then I use the MIDI scale filter to conform the pitches to a scale of my choosing. Then I can use the MIDI clips plus filter to control the TD3.
Thanks for the feedback!
extremely enjoyable! love it.
Great, many thanks! 😊
I've had a RD-8 about 6 months and a TD-3 about 3 months. While I've had some pretty good success pulling badass sounds from the TD-3 with a canyon delay (though any delay will help it shine) and a phaser, your device sounds like exACTly what I WANT my TD-3 to sound like all the time. It's truly the missing circuit for the TD-3 I honestly think you could try and put together a standalone box as an add-on for 303's. Really appreciate all your videos man, you very much know how to nail down the particulars of a thing and speak to what matters.
Thanks a lot for the great feedback! 😊
People on other channels twiddle knobs to make funny noises. You actually make music that is worth hearing.
Thanks a lot! 😊
Klasse gemacht, Pete ! :-)
Many thanks, vielen Dank! 😊
Now I'm tempted to buy one!
😉
Those trance progressions always slap on the TD-3. 🙌
😊
Really like your sounds , you cracked it ☺
Many thanks! 😊
Simply amazing! Love arps!
Many thanks! 😊
Great stuff , I just got a td3 and would love to set up a psi like this . Great job
Thanks a lot! More details about the setup in the next video...
My TD-3 just arrived. Time for some fun! 👍
Sehr sehr geil gemacht :-)
Vielen Dank! 😊
Decided: "Needs more Cowbell" at 8:08 - I see what you did there :D love it
😊
Amazing!
Hypnotic.
Many thanks!
Fantastic. I nearly ordered one right at the start of the video as I am an aggregator addict. I have a Raspberry pi and am a software developer but don't have the time to fanny around to that extent. Nice jam. Thanks. Lee
Thanks for the nice feedback! 😊
WOW! Bravo Maestro!
Many thanks! 😊
Solid man,,bravo to you sir.
Many thanks!
Sweet! Sounds awesome!!
Thanks a lot! 😊
I like that arp at 8:00! Cool set up
Thanks for the feedback!
Perfect! Thank you
😊
Great sound!
Thanks!
Pete, It truly is mesmerising! I love it!
Thank you so much! 😊
Mesmerizing indeed! If I can ask, would using a Keystep Pro provide the same functionality as this solution that you've demonstrated? Or is there something different about how this approach works that can't be reproduced by using the Keystep pro arpeggiator?
Thank you for the inspirational jams!
Many thanks! The idea was to transform a td-3 pattern into an arpeggio. If you just want a usual arpeggiator, keystep pro is a nice option (among many others)
Dein Kanal gefällt mir! Deshalb thumbs up und weiter so Pete! Grüße kommen aus Germany's Odenwald....!
Many thanks - vielen Dank!
WHAT a GREAT DEMO!
Thanks! 😊
Today i got my td-3. I am using the arturia keystep to control the td-3. The keystep also has a sequenz- and arpeggiator function. Works good for me and its a quick setup.
👍
That was really cool !
Many thanks! 😊
Really good, thank you.
Thanks for your feedback!
The music is wonderful!!!
Thanks a lot! 😊
Sehr sehr geil, die Demo!
Many thanks, vielen Dank!
Nice jam!
That sounds sick!
😉
This is fantastic! Can you recommend any resources for learning how to use a Rasperry Pi for midi?
Many thanks! I just use the pi for midi, most tutorials are about audio (&midi). My main resource was the Python/Mido documentation...
Good video! Thank you 👍
Thanks for the feedback!
This is fab! ❤️
Thanks! 😊
Thank you so much for this video! I am not a dj, producer, just a home guy who has been into spy/goa trance for the last 20 years or so. Love the TB-303, so just bought the TD-3 to play with. Your video here totally blew my mind as to what a couple TD-3's could do! I have to ask, you were using the blue TD-3 for a basic background line, then using the red one for the enhancements? Also, what is that little keyboard thing u were using to change keys, I assume on the red TD-3? I don't know much about this stuff, still learning, but ABSOLUTELY LOVE what u did in this video!!!
Thank you so much! 😊 In my arpeggiator approach one td-3 plays the basic pattern, the other, in principle plays the same but with different notes given by the little keyboard. The note transform is done by a python script but can also been done by blokas midihub or mozaic for ios or... I tried to explain this a bit in a successive video.
Very human video in this field thank you
Didn’t build one, I uh just connected it via midi in from my Alessis andromeda or my darkstar and boom td-threpeggio. Also logic or ableton midi effects + arpeggiator etc etc
Great video. Right now I am converting SNES audio boards (64Kbytes of RAM but 16-bit samples are stored as 4-bit ADPCM) because they support upto 8 channels and the option of any combination of channels through the FIR filter so: dft([a(0), a(1), a(2), a(3), a(4), a(5), a(6), a(7)]) = [A(0), A(1), A(2), A(3), A(4), A(3)*, A(2)*, A(1)*]
I think Nintendo give some examples:
7F 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - echo
18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 - Eliminates 4, 8, 12 and 16 kHz.
0C 2B 2B 2B 28 FF F8 F9 - Band-stop between 6 kHz and 8.5 kHz (-15 dB). Smooth Low-pass cut-off at 13 kHz (-18 dB).
01 02 04 08 10 20 40 80 - high-pass filter
00 00 00 40 00 28 00 FE - notch filter with 8KHz at it's centre
34 33 00 D9 E5 01 FC EB - Ripples at 11 kHz ~ 13 kHz, 15 kHz ~ 16 kHz.
But what the researchers have not made plain is that the 8-bit values are signed.
For what it's worth, the SNES has a seperate daughter-board for audio. It has 64Kbytes of it's own memory, an SPC700 processor running at 1.024MHz and powerful DMA. I need to look much further but it seems very likely that the 8 FIR filters represent not consecutive samples but rather 64 or 128 samples apart and so knowing this, the cunning programmer can update the FIR setting so that one effect merges into another without having to suspend play.
AFAIK the boards cost $20 but programming would require either a system with multiple parallel ports (kind of unlikely) or someone better than me at USB 2.0 communications so that:
www.raphnet.net/electronique/snes_apu/APU_Interface.png
The address can be set & held (or more specifically, increased after every write) and the 8 (4 x 2-bit) data lines are sent serials (again set and hold). I'm damned sure I can get the thing working on a PC but it isn't much use if it isn't possible to make hundreds or thousands of them that are cheap and reliable.
I would be interested to know if Pete Midi is old enough to remember SNES games. In fact, when I worked for Core Design, I wrote a Master System, Megadrive, PC, NES, Game Gear, Gameboy, MegaCD & 32X music/SFX driver but because we only ever did 2 SNES titles, it wasn't seen as worthwhile to produce a sound drive. I know that C64 chips are now worth a fortune but how many broken SNES's are lying around with perfectly fine sound cards?
To TEST them, a parallel port solution is acceptable but as for converting ti USB, no idea.
Dude that Jam A is insane!
😊
Wow. Amazing.
Many thanks!
You can do all of those things in synth tribe, it's your firm ware updater and it's got some other functionalities.. You can also load a library of patterns. It is a full interface that lets you control the nuances on the unit.. It's not perfect yet but it's not buggy and it's free.
Fantastic stuff! I didn't really understand the explanation but it does sound truly amazing. Great job!
Thank you so much! 😊
i have a blue and yellow....love em
👍
That was cool!
Thanks! 😊
Very nice
Many thanks!
Great sounds! I just got one td3 and am having a blast. How do you have both of them layered? Is one playing an octave higher? or just panned?
Thanks, slightly different sounds and pan positions. I think you can see the TD-3 settings in the video...
