    As always I watch your travels and I get to relax for a little while. My day consisted of trying to get my wife dressed and focused to go for treatments she has severe dementia and so everything is a challenge 45 min drive 4 hr treatment 45 min drive home 5 hr trying to get her satisfied witch consist of calming her down and trying to communicate with her. She finally takes a nap and I get to chill out with you and Wavy . Thanks for the distraction. I’ve spent a many a night on two anchors in some rough seas and heavy currents and didn’t sleep a wink. Always caution is never to be taken lightly. Let the good times roll. Mack in SC

      @@brentboydston2565 Well the thing is the Mississippi and Missouri and Ohio etc are not like England's canals, they can be very very dangerous and thus fewer people are capable of navigating them. Don't get me wrong, it would be cool, and was that way a 100 years ago, but it obviously wasn't popular enough thus it died.

    I seen a great idea for boat fenders on a home built fiberglass houseboat on my trip to Louisiana last winter to pick up my boat. They used wide rear ATV tires and put inter tubes in the tires. They drilled holes by the bead to run the rope though. You can add air to keep them from collapsing. I talked to the owner because it was really a nice looking build and They lived on that houseboat on the Bayou full time and some little town along the Bayous have a dock. Some docks has light poles on the docks. He was having the same issue as you. The poles was hitting his roof line. The tubes in the ATV tires solved his problem. Just put air in the tubes. Any ATV shop has a pile of old tires they give away. But you may have to buy the tubes. Just a cool idea I remembered that could help with your lock issue. Some ATV tires are 12-15 inches wide when aired up. I know those big fenders are expensive. Free tires are cheap, and tubes don’t cost much. Just something to think about. I know some locks make you tie off here on the Ohio anyway. Safe travels 🇺🇸⚓️

    On the river, the majority of fish that you see jumping...you don't want anyway. If you are lucky they are hybrid stripers. Most of the time they are carp or skipjack. If you fish with worms, fish on the bottom. You will probably get a catfish, if the drum don't get to your bait first.

    Hi just came across your channel. What a wonderful way to travel. I follow a gentleman, Sam Holmes, who sails all over the world.. when he anchors He has an app for his navigation iPad that he draws a area and if his boat position goes out of the area it alarms.. I've seen him use it quite often and has saved him a few times from crashing his sailboat onto the rocks. You may already have this, but thought worth mentioning. GREAT channel; I'm hooked now. Getting ready to retire in a couple of years and have been watching Sam's channel for ideas, but now you have my mind churning. Thanks and GOOD LUCK.

    @StephenPalmore-u7j Рік тому

    Idea I wanted to try was anchor the shanty in the current at nite .let the current drive paddle wheel generator ..then use electric to drive the board ..used fork lift motor ?? Now the whole time your moving the paddle wheel is still producing power ...EVERY ACTION Creates Opposite AND EQUAL REACTION !!! Mmm was Newton lying to us ?

    • @backwatersandbackroads

    You can never be too safe. Two anchors is better than one. How much scope on the anchor line are you running? And do you happen to have any binoculars with ya? That'd help see them lock lights when it gets foggy. Take care !

Not trying to step on your toes. Lol😂 . I was thinking 3 - 5 per foot of water depth. You're not anchor in the atlantic hahaha. But keep doing you!

I live in a small town in Missouri about an hour and some change west of St Louis, 30 mins from the Mississippi and 20 mins from the Missouri river in Hermann Mo. Thanks for another awesome video. I love the small towns, but they do seem like they never have any facilities and docking for travelers on the river. And if I ever do the loop, those homeless camps would make me nervous if I had to Anchor nearby for the night, since I'm just a woman traveling alone. I've seen too many Dateline episodes. LOL

    • @backwatersandbackroads
      @backwatersandbackroads  Рік тому +1

      Howdy, your concerns are valid. If you're anchored out, chances are you'd be fine. Those folks (hate to say it) tend to be lazy. Rowing out to victimize you probably wouldn't happen. Keep the doors locked and your personal defense of choice handy. A dog helps too. I hope you do the loop. Keep us posted. In the meantime, come along with us ;)

    For fishing in shallow, light wind and current areas throughout the loop you might want to rig up some type of stake pole system for quickly moving and anchoring without dealing with the actual anchor. I am looking forward to you reaching those tidal waters and maybe getting into some reds, trout and sheepshead.
