I totally get your "Shanty Boat" analogy. I am 72, in great health but live out west with little water. I used to follow that whole British Narrow boat thing. I almost moved there to live it for a while, but your channel has given me a reason to look nearer to home. You hit on the tax thing. Narrow boating is taxed to death! Tax to own the boat. Tax to use the canal system. Fee's at every marina. Higher fuel costs. The need for heating 9 months per year. Most of which you don't need to do. I am watching current videos as well as catching up on past ones. Keep on at it, the channel is great!

Great video Brenton & Wavey! Michigan: "Come for the Adventure, Stay because your car won't start" I laughed out loud. (So true, although I lived in VT) Which is why traveling south is so much fun, especially under one's own power. Hope your burger dinner was GREAT! Be well

Nice that you met some probable lifelong friends on this section of the river. you guys have me thinking about getting a outboard and a 28 or 29 foot semi displacement hull boat. Cruiser type with a galley and all the amenities. up here in the Northeast you probably know larger boats have IO’s or inboard. seems like a outboard is much more efficient and easier to work on. see you soon

When you mentioned that the sailboat was tied double. It reminded me of sailing on Lake of the Woods, Ontario/Minnesota, for race week, back in the 90's, the race was called off for lack/no wind.
We tied three monohulls and one medium sized cat abreast, we ended up turning up the music, danced on the Cat's trampoline, and everyone broke out the refreshments, as we motored down the channel, to the nights anchorage, using the largest mono's engine. Blew the carbon out of the engine.
    Best wishes from Northern Canada.

@@backwatersandbackroads The Minnesota side is very shallow, the gang down in Warroad used to have small boats, North side (Kenora) have up to 40 footer sail and power boats.
When it was Warroad's time to set the race week courses, we would have to remind them a time or two, that, areas they could sail through, maybe one of our boats could scrape over.
That Lake, is the first I went through a waterspout on, and hopefully the last.

I live in NW Indiana. Work as a firefighter but moonlighted as fire/security at a steel mill in Burns Harbor .
I've been on the decks of the Stewart Court and the Burns Harbor while they were off loading.
My parents have a place in Counce TN. Fished the Tombigbee and Tennessee river from Goat Island to Joe Wheeler dam. I never considered taking a boat from Pickwick (5miles away from mom n dads)up to Lake Michigan. I'll retire soon so that sounds pretty damn appealing to me. Spring in TN comes much sooner than to Chicagoland. I miss it

Great adventure Brenton when we came through that area a few years ago there were six deer crossing the river. In two weeks, my wife and myself will be trailering our 2020 Corsair 880 Sport trimaran to the mouth of the Tennessee River to commute/sail back to Key Largo, Florida. This boat has a retractable carbon fiber mast so getting under bridges shouldn't be a problem. Fully extended the mast is 39'4". If we have to motor, which I'm sure we will do well, the little 9.9 horsepower engine at 60% power will push us along at 7.4 knots and burn very little fuel.

Did you do a video that covers in detail your electrical system and how you have integrated motor alternator, 120v electrical charger, solar panels (how many watts each), monitors, controllers, sizes, voltages, amperage, etc.? Now that you have had months of experience with your setup and worked out the kinks, we'd also like to hear about what you like, what you don't like and what you'd change in your system. About 4 years ago I bought and motored a 28ft sailboat across Florida on the Okeechobee Waterway from Cape Coral to the Intercoastal Waterway then north to Jacksonville. Took about 6 weeks with breakdowns and weather delays, but I was in no hurry. I really enjoyed the trip in a Sovereign 28 CC in spite of en-route repairs. The locks were a lot smaller but easily done single handed. It was a great trip through the heart of the Everglades and up the Atlantic coast of Florida on the ICW.

Reference your new wood stove: burning driftwood is an idea. A couple of things to watch for are (1) living things in or on the wood. Some of those things you may not want aboard the boat. And (2) don’t burn driftwood wood from a salt water source. Salt will be in the wood, and will rust out your new stove in a year.

    Hello Brenton,
I'm the guy who commented on the Prairie trawler vs. Grand Banks trawler on your last video.
I was completely surprised yesterday 3/20 when you anchored (briefly) right next to my Prairie 29 trawler!
I was going to dinghy over to say hello but I didn't see you on deck and figured you were resting.
Is there a way to send you a picture and a short video of your boat?
Thanks again for your videos and have a safe trip!
