Hi Brenton and Wavey! Well, the voyage downstream just gets better and better! You could not have timed the changing of the leaf colors any better than what you've done. I get the sense that you've found your perfect element here, being on the Upper Miss. I see you caught a brief glimpse of one of our USCG river tenders entering the lock. That was most likely the CGC Wyaconda, homeported out of Dubuque, IA. Dubuque is interesting in that it has an "ice harbor", from which river flow is cut off from the ice harbor when the gates to it are closed at ice-in at the coming of winter. That tug boat within the lock: On the US western rivers (ie, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and any other navigable river that empties into the Mississippi), these beasts are called "towboats"........ even though all they do is "push" their barges filled with commerce! Another Mighty Miss tidbit is as you are going downstream, the river bank to your right is known as "The Right Descending Bank". If you monitor Channel 14 enough, you've probably heard the pilots of these towboat maybe mentioning "right descending bank" . I guess it's all about piloting in the current.......the towboat coming "upstream" has a distinct maneuverability advantage compared to a towboat going downstream with the current on it's stern. Often in a tight channel or bend in the river, meeting towboats will most often have the upstream towboat be the "give way" vessel to allow the downstream boat full use of the channel or bend in question! Looking forward to the next video, thanks for having everyone come along on your dream voyage of a lifetime!

Sweet footage of the old towns . I visited a distant relative in Iowa when I was a teenager , turns out he was a good friend of Jimmy Carter ... how cool eh ? We found a street called ( No Name Street ) in a country road town , with maybe 15 houses tops . I guess it was getting tough to find a name for the new street . We got gas at a country road " gas station / ice cream shop " turns out the employee ( around 20 years old ) had never been to a city . We were only about an hour away from Cedar Rapids , that's just nuts . I met the girl of my dreams there , never to be seen again after our 1 week stay . Next farms daughter . She drove her dads old pickup on their farm property , My first time on a horse ( called Rocket , because he had a tendency of taking off like a bullet ) . There was a real nice pond with a huge tree and a old tire swing . Good memories man .
Love your channel. Not sure about conspiracies stopping people from experiencing things like what you are doing. Think it is more human nature. Whatever it is, I’m glad you overcome it to give us your adventures.
I am loving this trip, I have followed you since your first you’re down, I made the trip down almost 30 years ago Michigan to Key Largo. I’m now living in Jacksonville, Florida would love to meet up with you.
Hi! I found your channel a couple weeks ago while researching The Great Loop. I really identified with your style, particularly after watching your video from 4 years ago about "Reluctant Loners". I've been trying to find a manufacturer of houseboats who use an aluminum barge as a platform but I'm unable to find one. Do you have any suggestions? This setup you have looks ideal for the rivers because it's tough, is easy to run up on a beach, and if it becomes accidentally grounded it presents a flat surface instead of a (fiberglass) tri hull. I hope you and Wavey can get south soon as winter is coming soon brrrrrrr. Thank You!
Really awesome content, so enjoyable. I wonder if you install a marine grade wind turbine, it would help keep the batteries charged up on cloudy days. Several offerings on Amazon. We have the Automaxx Windmill Turbine mounted on our Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran. It actually does a better job of keeping our 4 Battle Born batteries charged than our solar panels, It's rated at 1500W 24V 60Amps....
I've thought about it. One issue: I live on a spot on the Ontonagon river above a train trestle that the barge literally fits under by inches. It would have to fold down. I can't even realt add a roof rack for my kayak on the roof unless it's level with the peak of the roof. That trestle is the bane of the river I tell you ,)
@@backwatersandbackroads maybe for the rest of this trip one would benefit you.... you could actually mount it on the stern down by your scooter. You're always moving forward so the turbine will be generating power most of the day...
Hello from the colorful frosty ozarks Brenton! Another video of value! Hope your well and enjoying your day! Its been fun to be following you adventures! Are you getting close to St.Louis? Tight lines and bent poles!
Really cool adventure. It would be smart for the little towns to have a dock with free one day parking to encourage boaters to stop and spend some money at the local businesses. Hope you have a fun and safe trip. Always fun to see what you have been up to, and of course see Wavey!
It's a sad thing, but many of the river towns on the Mississippi and other rivers, have seemed to come to turn their backs to the rivers and ignore them. Most of the towns have walled themselves off behind floodwalls and no longer have docks for transient boaters.
Correct me if I am wrong here. You can crank of deep cycle batteries, so you could hook up the outboard to the two in parallel, that way when you are running the motor it will charge them? Or even have an A/B switch and crank off the starter battery then switch to the deep cycle to charge them while moving? Lithium batteries are crazy expensive too, might consider adding two more lead acid in parallel and add two more solar panels.
Howdy. We have 2 separate battery systems on board. 2 large group deep cycles off the outboard, and then 4 6 volt (12 volt system) off the panels. The solar also has house power (110)
Nice little town an that boat passing at 14:10 definitely caught my attention. Man I wish I was out there my self thanks again for showing this journey stay safe have fun from lil G and my self👍✌️🛥☕️

Another nice video. I'm like you, I love to explore the backroads of America, check out the little and small towns, hammocks and villages. The first town you chrcked out still looks to be pretty vibrant to this day. Its obviously not as small as you had first thought. I grew up in Ohio, running the Ohio River. Sadly, many of those old river towns along the Ohio, especially in the upoer reaches as it comes down out of Pittsburgh, they are clearly places in a death spiral. Most of the downtowns are all boarded up. There are abandoned, derelict houses. The ones people still live in don't look much better. Its really sad and depressing. Glad to see that the gloomy weather seemed to be clearing and the sun came back out so you can get the batteries back up to full charge. I'm enjoying living vicariously through your videos of sonethihg I hope to do nyself, get another boat or build one to explore the rivers once I have fully recovered from this cancer I have been fighting. One more chemo treatment and i can begin to rid my body of the poison that is chemo and get my body to heal up from all I've gone through this year. Safe travels and I look forward to you and Wavy's next exploration.

Very nice! That first town you stopped in looked like a time capsule from the 19th century. I love stuff like that. Heck yeah. Coming into 10 (Guttenberg to Harper's Ferry); that's my neck of the woods. I spend a lot of time on that stretch of river.
@diceman2004 that sounds like you found a slice of heaven;) I wonder what it's like now
Love your channel. Not sure about conspiracies stopping people from experiencing things like what you are doing. Think it is more human nature. Whatever it is, I’m glad you overcome it to give us your adventures.
I really like your interaction on the videos. I'm trying to make some motorcycle videos traveling around the ozarks when I get it all figured out.
Thank you Brent, like when u walk thru towns, do that with our Bike,
I am loving this trip, I have followed you since your first you’re down, I made the trip down almost 30 years ago Michigan to Key Largo. I’m now living in Jacksonville, Florida would love to meet up with you.
That would be great;) remind me when you see us getting closer this winter?
Great job thanks for taking us along!
Picking up leaves one at a time with a squeezy-stick? Man! Somebody ought to put a leaf rake in the collection box next Sunday.
I thought the same :) he might have been picking up pine cones? I saw his collar (the one priests wear) was impressed. Obviously a humble fella
Beautiful, thanks again for sharing!
Another great adventure. Thanks and safe travels.
Hi Brenton and Wavey 😊😊
Hi Greg! -Wavey;)
I do like your videos.reminds me of the huck Finn and Tom sawyer books I used to read.in the OLD days.lol
Thank You!
Love the boat !!!
You're always moving forward so the turbine will be generating power most of the day...
really good shoe! Loving your videos here in the Heart of Dixie❤
I Always look forward to your next video!!
Thank you. I'm glad some folks are enjoying them. ;)
Hello from the colorful frosty ozarks Brenton! Another video of value! Hope your well and enjoying your day! Its been fun to be following you adventures! Are you getting close to St.Louis? Tight lines and bent poles!
Becareful at Lock 14 and 14a, many wing dams are not marked there!
You just popped up on my loop for the first time in a while. I got some catching up.
So interesting 😊
Good work Buddy. Keep it up.
Been wondering where you disappeared to. Email me?
My favorite things to do also, ruffles my feathers...
Nice little town an that boat passing at 14:10 definitely caught my attention. Man I wish I was out there my self thanks again for showing this journey stay safe have fun from lil G and my self👍✌️🛥☕️
Holy Cow !!!!! I’ve been saving this series until the farm slowed down ….. your channel took off !!!
Best work yet Brenton !!! Seamless transitions good music choices. Enjoyable timelines and episode lengths.
Excited to “ catch up “.
Learning to edit on my phone to give your channel a shout out for inspiring me to start my own. Congratulations on all your hard work these years paying off in validation and hopefully dog treats and gas money.
Thank you Dan. It has been a long haul hasn't it ;) of course I think we should be at 20k by now. But I'll take it. Let me know when you have your channel up and going, I do a smaller channel shout-out every week.
@@backwatersandbackroads I’ve been plugging along almost a year now with channel almost all shorts under 30 seconds 386 subscribers now.
If you need some time filling activity my shorts playlist entertain most folks somewhat lol
Haven’t figured out any editing all I have is phone to do a shout out type of thing I’ll see if I can figure out something this weekend.
I bought a AKASO camera trying to figure that out and how to download it to upload somehow.
Don’t forget you have a home base here on the loop back vehicle access lots of free activities wavy can run free on the farm. Ton of history , buildings , hatchery’s , waterfalls , festivals within an hour.
Thanks! Great video.
Thank you for finding us and coming along. I know another good fella fighting the C. Hang in there. I'll keep making videos until you get out here again
great episode ✌️
Very nice! That first town you stopped in looked like a time capsule from the 19th century. I love stuff like that. And how those Tugboat captains maneuver those huge barges into those locks is amazing. And oh, I'm very impressed with the stamina you have when you're working out, 3 hours of push-ups is amazing.😉
I know right! And somehow steering the boat at the same time. And filming! Lol
@@backwatersandbackroadsobviously a man of many talents. LOL
Both sides of the river have busy mainline train tracks... BNSF on the east (Chicago to Seattle) and Canadian Pacific on the west.
I look forward to seeing you climb to the lighthouse in Hannibal. Sorry if I sound like a broken record.
BRENTON, ITS CALLLED A TOWBOAT....AKA LINEBOAT, NOT A PUSHBARGE....HAHA
Just started watch since the beginning of the loop… and now going back and watching the others from the past. So glad the UA-cam algorithm finally caught me! You gotta new fan and subscriber
I'm so glad to hear that! Welcome. Our channel is like an iceberg. Most of it is below the surface. 7+years. All budget adventure story telling as best a fella can do with a phone and free editing app :)
