    Your videos are becoming better and better each time you launch a new one. Good for you and good for us!
    Yes, the new GS had to bring the game up a bit, as it was becoming a little old towards the direct competition and it was expected to receive a lot of novelties, mainly on the technology side that was mandatory. But BMW has done more than that. They rearranged the whole bike, so that was a big step beyond. In some aspects they went for the cliché “Less is more”, to convey with a lower age of the GS riders…They win in that department but, will they keep their more senior customers?
    Only the future can tell.
    I’m going to test this bike in a few days and after testing I can share my opinion. But what seems to be clear with the GS launch, is that the expectations about the new GSA are rising from an important quota of the Market, I think. I’m in that group of interested riders. If we wanted a more nimble GS we could get the 850 GS or the F 900 GS. The new teck is very welcome and the power / torque increase, but we got the sensation that, maybe BMW could be offering us a little bit more as a premium bike that the GS is, with the presence of retro illuminated buttons for instance. The up grade is effective but isn’t it falling too short?
    Thanks V-Told for your interesting insight and explanation on the new BMW 1300 GS
    Be well my friend 👍🏻👍🏻

      I've only now got here with first seeing your take on the R 1300 GS vs R 1250 GS comparison and well, I think that this part is the key: "In some aspects they went for the cliché “Less is more”, to convey with a lower age of the GS riders…They win in that department but, will they keep their more senior customers?" I wonder about it myself and I'm guessing that after the initial excitement cools down we will see. I'd love to see that sales numbers in some time and compare them to R 1250 GS's.
      Also, there's already a new F 900 GS that may mess it all up even more! I've seen and sat on one but until I ride, I'll keep my thoughts in line. Overall it may be interesting and definitely a less controversial change. All the best!

      I'm glad you found the content interesting. The big GS could really stand for a segment benchmark in so many ways and also when it would come to a general, safe recommendation. It's been a bestseller for many reasons. Price not being one of them, which only enhances the importance of this line of motorcycles.

    Excellent review! In depth / informative, I want to see where you place it following your round up of ADV bikes………but before then can you answer one question for me. In comparison to the Tiger GT (my current bike) how is the knee bend (I have a damaged right knee motorcycle accident years ago that’s got arthritis these days, so I am that old rider you described 🤣🤣🤣)

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому

      Thanks. This bike has had a 2 cm lower seat installed and the foot pegs appear to be noticeably higher than in a Tiger 1200 GT impacting negatively the knee angle. With a regular seat of the R 1300 GS that I've sat on for a moment, I'd still be wishing for lower foot pegs but then it's definitely closer to your Tiger. But it's harder to tell right now which one has a more relaxed knee bend. Overall, at 183 cm tall (6 feet) I feel more comfortable on the Tiger 1200. Cheers to an older rider :)!

    Automatic lowering of the windscreen is a feature of the pre- TFT K1600. The optional NAV installs in a pop up compartment though the top of the dash and then the NAV display was visible though the face of the dash. Lowering the windscreen makes it impossible to open the NAV compartment for anti theft while parked.The screen will not lower if the NAV compartment is open.

    237kg is light ,but most haven't taken a few things into account, additional options that most will spec, which will add more weight.
    The 237kg is measured with cast alloys, no crash protection, and it will add addional weight for most other options. You can add at least 7 kg for crash bars, which most will want on the bike. I read a post on one of the FB groups, 1300GS owner, after taking delivery of his 1300GS TE with around £2k addional options. Spoked wheels, etc, added full crash protection. Pannier racks, electric screen, height adjustment, heated seats. bike is coming in at 246kg.

    You forgot to mention that the centre stand is not standard equipment anymore, which is part of the weight savings over the previous model. So if you want that you need to add the weight of the stand back to the package. The bigger issue is the cost of a basic tumble on the dirt with the new indicator in the hand guard and the proximity indicator in the mirror. I feel that these not so off road friendly changes will make a fall much more expensive. Prospective dirt travellers will probably have to invest yet more money in aftermarket hand guards and mirrors.

    • @HardwareG33k

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому

      I personally wouldn't go for any Akrapovic exhaust as they tend to sound pretty much like stock and only may improve the design and weight. However, if they're street-legal then maybe it makes some sense in comparison with the ones that aren't exactly legal. But only then they sound like they should, so it's a tough one.

    Still no one talking about the decision to put the front indicators inside the hand protectors. You know, the first thing to hit something if you fall over or smash into stuff taking off-road? I've seen some pictures where the indicators are on the side of the windscreen so it's probably a part of some package, but just the thought of putting electronics there is very alien. KTM & Ducati certainly are competitive... until you start looking at reliability and dealership experience. I made the very costly mistake of buying a 2023 S1000XR and realizing that I don't enjoy the howl of a beautiful inline 4 any longer. Just traded it in for a 2024 R1300GS Option 719. Yes, it sounds like a tractor at idle, and yes, the quick-shifter isn't even in the same league at the XR. However, the low-end grunt of the 1300 around town and the smoothness cruising at 80mph sold me. Also, the lower CG of the GS makes it feel lighter than the XR at lower speeds. I used two different BMW dealers in the States. Excellent experience at both!

      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому

      I'm afraid of this question. I'd recommend the 1300 but it's mostly the influence of it simply being new and "upgraded" GS. But putting ego aside, I'd be more eager to jump on a 1250 and ride it instead of the 1300. But right now with a new model, the 1300 should obviously be a smarter choice in terms of keeping its value, appeal etc. It's also appearing as more approachable which I feel may be beneficial.

    Before the 1300, I told myself my heart wanted an XR, but my brain wanted a GS. Buying a 1250 would’ve been purely a logical choice for me with absolutely no passion or excitement towards it. This new model however, while I still think the XR looks better as a sporty and modern touring option, adds some much needed allure for me, particularly in the Trophy spec and Akro exhaust. I almost never go off-road but that color scheme and double end pipe is just too cool.
    Have BMW succeeded in breading the appeal of the GS? Some will prefer the looks of the old GS, but this mid-thirties guy is now considering the GS as a future purchase. I’m no twenty something, but I’m also not your typical mid-life crises dad customer so I’d say ya, BMW succeeded. Can I afford a GS? Well now, that’s a different story. Time to start saving my loose change 😅

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому +1

      Nicely written. This new R 1300 GS seems like a blend of R 1250 GS and S 1000 XR to me. Isn't is an R 1300 XR then?

    • @benwells2338
      @benwells2338 5 місяців тому

      @@VToldsMotoShowTo be honest, I kind of wonder the relevance of the XR moving forward. In the past there was that distinct difference between outright sport touring, and the more comfortable, more leisurely version of touring. With the 1300, the added power, more svelte and sporty styling, and firmer, sportier suspension, I’m really having trouble justifying the XR now, other than purely aesthetics.
      I suspect in real world testing/speeds, the new GS should also feel faster too with that glorious torque, so again I ask myself, what is the point of the XR? Maybe BMW drops the standard XR and keeps the new M model and goes hard on the sporting ethos?

    Hopefully BMW heard your constructive critisisms and will improve the standard features and design the next few years. Lack of dedicated separate rear brake light is not acceptable. So many important features are optional while the price has stayed the same. The total price properly equipped will certainly be much higher than previous design. BMWs new pricing strategy will annoy many loyal customers.

      Jeździłem gs adventure 1250 trzy razy brałem go na testy i nawet jak bym był standardowego wzrostu i tak mi nie podszedł. Objeździłem wszystkie Duże turystyczne enduro i tylko kat utkwil mi w głowie. W jednym z filmów vitold jest komentarz goscia, który miał 7 gs i raz przejechał się ktm super adventure 1290 s. Mówił, że już nie wróci do gs. Każdy z nas ma inne preferencje, emocje i oczekiwania od motocykla mi akurat bmw nie podeszło. Warto czasem pojeździć różnymi motocyklami i nie zamykać się tylko na jedną markę. Posiadam ATAS 1000 DCT i myślałem, że to mój wymarzony motocykl ale okazało się że nie. Idę dalej do przodu chcę mocnego motocykla to nie znaczy, że nie wrócę do za jakiś czas do mniejszej pojemności.

      Cześć, ja mam poniżej 2 metrów wzrostu, więc w tym zakresie nie mam jak pomóc, ale KTMy z ich wąskimi kierownicami nie sprawiają wrażenia motocykli dla o wiele większych osób. Raczej takie wrażenie ma się na BMW R 1250 GS ale Adventure. Też na Triumphie Tigerze Rally. Poza tymi dwoma, cała reszta jest wyraźnie ciaśniejsza - KTM ma szczególnie wysoko podnóżki, co już dla mnie jest średnio wygodne. Wersja R siedzi wyżej nad ziemią i w tej wersji cała reszta jest tak fajna, że tę wadę oraz inne byłbym skłonny zignorować. Dla mnie samego przesiadka z Africa Twin na cokolwiek w tej klasie, zwykle byłoby dobrym doświadczeniem. Ale wszystko to jest z perspektywy 183 cm wzrostu.

    Id like to point out a few things i feel are important being ive owned a r1200,r1250 adventure and currently own a r1250 ultimate edition and having briefly riden a r1300 gs..... firstly the size seems more like a 850 -900 cc bike now for some im sure thats great but for me being 6 feet 2 inches its feels small and the handle bar position is very strange ,a gs is a trans continental trouer machine the rear seat is dreadful for a passenger of course bmw may have a larger seat available but its all extra cost. Secondly the engine casing it ugly what finish they have on it makes it look incredible cheap the foot rests are cheap and cheerful and best ,taking a passenger on a 300 plus hundred mile ride i fear wont be a pleasure for either of you .the tank looks like it has carpet going up it what was bmw thinking of , to spec it up to what youd like is going to be £24,000 ive had 6 bmw motorcycles over time but i feel its a money grab venture now and its lost its soul.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому

      I'm my case I usually rent these motorcycles myself, so I'm not sponsored nor compensated in any other way. This review also qualifies, however, I was given this bike directly by BMW, which puts some pressure due to mutual relationship etc. On the other hand I was still given a free hand and there was no pressure to keep it only positive. I'm also not a motorcycle journalist, so I don't need to care to be given the next bike later or I'm jobless. I also am not invited for fancy trips to review a motorcycle there which then works just like a sponsored review. Same applies to my renting them from dealerships - I bring these bikes back refuelled so all the costs are mine. I'm not promoting the dealers either, so in other words - I'm unbiased. Also, I do not own this or any competing to it motorcycle, so I've got no business in presenting it as bad or worse just to feel better about a bike that I've got. I think this should explain it well. Cheers!

      Not true. I had an electric windshield on my RT and loved it. Would adjust it for temperature changes, wind /speed changes etc. I rode that bike 40k miles from 25 degrees F to 105 degrees F. After various sized windshields I settled on a low one ( hate looking through a windshield) which in the down position let the wind hit my chest with no turbulence on the helmet. All the way up and you could tuck in behind it in the rain. Having this as an option on the new GS could be a deal maker for me.
