I've been carrying the Nitecore TINI 2 on my keychain for around 18 months. Aside from some finish wear, it's still working great. It throws a great even light, and it holds a charge for quite a long time when not in use. Plus USB-C charging is great, since I'm never far from a USB-C charger.

The thumbnail and title of this video strongly implies that you're going to discuss the flashlights pictured. That's why I watched the video and I assume the same is true for most others since the most replayed part of the video is the part where you have the same lights pictured. But you don't discuss them, you just link them so you can make some money if we buy one from Amazon. This is anything but the "ultimate guide" and frankly, I am growing so weary of fake clickbait titles and thumbnails. You seem like a nice guy so I'm not going to tell UA-cam to stop recommending your channel, but I came really close to doing that. Please be honest and transparent with your videos. Trying to "trick" people into watching and using your affiliate links is no way to build a following.

      @johannestremel3541 3 місяці тому +2

Well the title said guide not comparison or review, and it did exactly that tell what is important when choosing a light, and he named examples
And who are you to tell UA-cam to stop a channel, it needs more than one guy missunderstanding a title for that

    • @ellisgarvin
      @ellisgarvin 3 місяці тому

@@johannestremel3541 You're mincing words when you say there's a big difference between guide and comparison, etc.
Secondly, I can tell UA-cam to stop recommending channels to my UA-cam feed. We can all do that. It's I'm not talking about removing a channel from UA-cam. I'm talking about telling you to never show me that channel again. I do that pretty much everyday, because there are so many garbage channels out there. Cheers.

As someone very new to EDC, this is really helpful, informative and balanced advice. Thank you. My first (& currently only) EDC torch (yes that’s what we call them in the UK) is the tiny but ample Lumintop EDC01. For the last four weeks it’s been in my pocket on a microclip, along with a Victorinox classic SD alox. The number of times these little items have been used in these first weeks, has both surprised and thrilled me (& stopped the criticisms of my family, who had doubted the need of them 😊). Love the content here. Thanks for the opportunity of landing an upgrade.

I have several no name Chinese flashlights, 2 of them are still helping me during the war. The other one (with lots of lumens) is waiting for some camping activities. So I agree - there is no need in lots of lumens everyday, but to have an opportunity to use those lumens when they are really needed - is a good thing

I have so many issues with a lot of what you said but for the sake of brevity and to save my fingers typing on my tablet I will only focus on what you say about 5 to 100 being basically all you need unless you're in rescue or such.
There's plenty of instances that require a person to have brighter flashlights for everyday use. Quite a few people have vison problems or conditions that require them brighter flashlights for what some people would consider "bright enough". Even times in which a certain brightness in a floodligh is enough they could still have conditions in which a higher lumin/brightness is required to see more around them in the dark as their condition can affect their peripheral vision, so even though in front of them it's bright enough for them they could still require brighter still to see to a normal comfort around them.
These situations are clearer to me as i have vision problems on my mother's side and i see this first hand.

Without the intent of attacking Maurice, I disagree with just about everything presented in this video. One point I do agree with is that more than one cell is not a good idea. Not because of the functioning of more than one cell together but rather the user will typically not ensure that the batteries are matched in all aspects, some considerations are actual capacity, number of times charged etc to include age of the cells. Miss matched cells are a recipe for disaster. Focusing on lumen output is a trick used by flashlight companies. Lumen output and Candela are both equally important in determining actual light output. Two lights running the same lumens but one with higher Candela will give you more usable light and throw further. When I test EDC flashlights my real world criteria (not scientific just my opinion) is you need to be able to clearly identify a target at 80 meters with low particulate in the air. That is solely my standard. Another real concern is run times, but this is getting rather lengthy and I will leave this here as is.

Glad that you set it straight with flashlight saftey. Everything I’ve read about deaths or injuries have been from what you mentioned but so many people love to pin everything on the brand. I have been EDCing an Olight warrior mini 2 Cu latley. I picked it up a few months ago to replace a broken surfire stilletto since I loved the copper and didn’t want to pay to upgrade to a stilletto pro to escape the plastic body that broke on the original. I don’t find it any harder to carry and it’s user interface is just as good if not better. Also seems just as if not more durable so far and looks way cooler. Here’s to hoping I win a baton 3 for my girlfriend;)

Subscribed. I agreed with all of your comments, and select my carry flashlight(s) accordingly.
I have had a flashlight since I was around 5, and consciously collected them since my teens. Since I am now a Grumpy Old Man (>60), I've probably owned quite a few.
For example, my EDC flashlights right now are an S1R Baton II, an i5R EOS w/OEM 2.4V battery, and lately one of: the i3T EOS, an i1R2, or the SdeNow S1. I've also been testing out a couple of the smaller AA/14500 Sofirn lights, but so far I prefer Olight's UI, particularly how its lockout works. I use coin-cell LED lights as zipper pulls on most of my coats. I've also added an Olight imini to my keychain, but it won't last there unless I discover that a rechargeable 10180 can replace its three LR41 button cells.
If I am going camping or hiking, the Baton II is replaced with a Warrior Mini for better battery life, and I'll probably also be using a headlight, most likely a Sofirn that takes a single 18650.
Yes, "my name is Joe, and I have a flashlight habit."

I got my first flashlight less than a month ago: the RovyVon A5, which is great because it's small and I can bring it everywhere, but it's actually too small to hold in my hand. I would love a slightly larger flashlight so I can hold it easier. I never knew how much I used a flashlight until I got one, it's definitely an EDC for me now.

I wouldn't call them EDCs, since I don't carry them everyday, but I have 2 flashlights:
    1) SureFire E2D Defender as a tactical flashlight. It's tough, IPX7 rated, with a button on the back with two intensities. It has a 1000 lumen and a 5 lumen mode. It also has a crenelated strike surface for self defense. It runs on 2 CR123A cells.
    2) Apeks Luna Mini. This is a dive light with 4 settings: 1000, 500, 250 lumen, and strobe. It's got a factory sealed rechargeable battery, and is IPX8 rated to 100 meters, also with a button on the back. It doesn't have a pocketclip like the SureFire, but I tied a boltsnap to this dive light and it's really always on my BCD.
Both are comparable in weight, dimensions, and price. Both come with a lifetime warranty. The Apeks is a little lighter, smaller, and less expensive. If I'd have to pick one as an EDC, it'd probably be the Apeks because it's an awesome dive light and a very versatile pocket flashlight. It has intelligent circuitry that dims the light if it is starting to overheat, or if the battery runs down. It also comes in four colors: Dark gray, green, orange, and purple.

Hey Maurice thanks for the heads up on multi cell batteries in torches. Great content as always! I currently run an Olight i3t as my EDC light because of its size and ability to change batteries quickly. I use rechargeable AAA batteries to keep it running and have a spare cell in most of my bags.
I have been looking at something more powerful lately though because I would like a more defensive focused light for certain situations.
    Keep up the great work!

I carry a Harbor Freight free flashlight as my current edc; that’s why I’m currently in the market for a new one. I’ve been eyeing the Olight i1R2 because of its affordable price. Thanks for the video and the giveaway :)

My Keychain Flashlight is a RovyVon Aurora A4x Titanium with two Green Tritiums.
I also always wear my Garmin Tactix 7 Pro, so I technically always carry two EDC Flashlights.

Hey I've been carrying the brass aaa drop flashlight. Love it, it was the best price for a brass flashlight I could find.

I edc one of two lights: Lumintop FWAA or Rovyvon Aurora A29. I also keep an Olight S2R Baton II in our key basket in the living room for quick access.

I currently don't have an EDC flashlight, so this video and the suggestions in the comments are great. I think I'd like to add the Angel Eyes E3 and Olight Baton 3 Pro to my carries.

I've been carrying the Lumintop Tool AA for the past few years but have recently switch over to the RovyVon Aurora A3 Pro and A8 as their size fits better in business attire in my new work environment.

Main edc light is the Olight S2R2 Baton, backup is the i3. Work edc is the Thrunite T1, backup is the Thrunite tool AA.

I've been edcing this random flashlight from Walmart honestly. Also I've been looking at the rovyvon aurora since I'm fairly new to EDC. I usually use the flashlight when I'm on my bike at night it had a two way clip so it helped. But that's the only way.

I carry a RovyVon Aurora A5x (I think) and I do use one of the higher output modes (which has a few hundred lumens I believe) from time to time. I work in a theatre so there are times when I need to illuminate large, dark spaces and those extra lumens are super useful. However, a big downside of this flashlight being so small and being capable of so much output is that it won't keep up the high output modes for long, it'll switch to a lower output to prevent overheating. But that's a tradeoff I can live with for it being so small that I can take it anywhere.
Another consideration is luminous flux (in lumens) and its relationship with luminous intensity (in candela), which is associated with how focused the beam is. Luminous flux describes the total amount of light coming from the flashlight in all directions, whereas luminous intensity describes how much light there is concentrated in a given angle in space.
Thus, if the flashlight has a very large beam angle, the light gets spread out over this large angle, so a flashlight with the same amount of lumens but a smaller beam angle is going to have that light spread out over a smaller angle, making the light appear more concentrated and thus brighter. So if you have two flashlights with the same number of lumens, the one with lower candela is going to have that light more spread out whereas the one with higher candela is going to be more focused.
If you want to illuminate an object with both, it's going to look dimmer when illuminated with the low candela flashlight because that flashlight lights up more of the surrounding area with the same amount of luminous flux (total light output), so there's less left for the object.
