Toy Story 2 airplane scene

- The sequence definitely changed for the better in the remaining nine months but still it was fun to map out the structure of Woody playing out the fictional TV show scene but in real life. Art direction wise, one of the things I most proud of is that we created a green sky and this sequence which many people told me doesn’t really exist. :) Storyboards by Matt Luhn, David Fulp, Ken Mitchroney, etc.
This is much more epic than the final battle against Stinky Pete in the actual movie. I can imagine that when Al arrives in Japan, he opens up the suitcase to find Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye gone, and Stinky Pete with tire tracks all over his body. That would have been satisfying to see.
Good guess! I believe that was our plan at the time.
No, I think it implies Pete would have been crushed to death and that would have gotten the MPAA in a frenzy, plus I feel the backpack scene was more funnier
But if you disagree, that's fine
I like this
0:50 "Hey wait, wait, wait a minute! What's happens next!?! Come on, let's see the rest of the workprint!"
I know right
Prospector suffers Syndrome's fate in this! It's so great to hear this unused dialog from Tom. Thanks so much for sharing these!
Though Pete at least didn't get sucked in the jet engine and suffered being both chopped the pieces by the fan, and him jamming up the engine to blow him up. He just got trapped in the luggage area, when the wheels back into the plane.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Or Worse cause that horrible day 9/11/01
Stinky Pete got a fate worse than death....
GETTING SENT TO JAPAN!!!!
I’m actually glad he didn’t die. He wasn’t an evil character, he was just someone who was tired of being trapped in storage
This is so debatable, seeing Pete go without the rest of the collection is priceless while in the Final Cut it’s just as priceless to see him covered in glitter 😂
I love that Woody wouldn’t let Buzz go.
Even though his arm was literally falling apart.
He would’ve done that without hesitation in the first movie.
Especially if it was the version of him from that infamous Friday the 13th scene
Thus scene is special as it has Pete be in the final climax, first time we see Pete lose his hat, Woody saves Buzz opposite of the first film and Jesse is the one reminding woody and trusting in him which is the opposite to the actual scene
Yeah. So it implied that the scene the final episode of Woody's Roundup had Woody and Bullseye never made it into the the cliff until Pete holds a hand as a deus ex machina. Considering that Pete is the villain, he holds his hand so he wouldn't want to let Woody and Buzz get away.
Pete ends up being dead by a TV reference.
@@poweroffriendship2.0 that's pretty deep
@@freezasama5802 I know, I find this deleted scene to be more poetic on the context of how the _Woody's Roundup_ TV show played out. Pete saved the very enemy that he considered an ally in the show, so now we finally found the missing piece.
This would have made him the only Toy Story villain to actually die.
Yeah. Most Toy Story villains ends up getting the karma they deserve rather than being dead like other Pixar villains.
well there's the old dude in UP
also always thought Randall died when the family beat him up, but that was personally retconned in the new show.
and hopper in bugs life
sorry, I don't mean to be a know at all lol
It’s not clear what happened to Pete in this scene. Some in the comments are saying he died. It looks like he just had his hat stolen briefly and then was taken up in the plane while getting his hat back at the last second. I’ve got a funny idea for an ending: What if Pete goes to Japan alone but still hopes he can be a museum exhibit, meanwhile Jessie kept Pete’s hat. When Pete arrives in Japan, the museum considers him worthless without the hat, so Pete ends up in a Japanese landfill. Pete realizes in that moment it was better to be a played-with toy that would eventually fall apart rather than a toy in a museum that would never be played with and would be considered ruined if any little piece of him was missing.
That would be so funny
The ending we got was better because it’s a whole less contrived (the film’s arc was centered around confronting the uncertain future, not holding onto the past like a reference to an old episode), adds closure to the Woody’s Round Up series (something Woody alluded to wanting to see earlier and now given a proper sendoff), and gives the villain a better punishment (being played with by an artist no less!)
Okay, this is making *insane* amounts of sense to me!
Yeah it feels like the comment section only is liking this deleted scene from the fact it feels like a climatic final battle, but completely disregards the dialogue used. What we got in the end for Pete’s fate is much more deserving as he gets what he fears most, getting played and ruining his perfect mint condition appearance.
@LucarioShirona yep. Deleted scenes/concept art will always be a little deceptive in that it makes you imagine something better than the final product, even though they might have a perfectly good reason why it wasn't used.
Hearing different people, believe to be crew members, recording lines for Buzz, Jessie and Stinky Pete, Tom Hanks recording Woody's lines being the only exception, does feel strange.
0:02 Stinky Pete: I hate space toys!
Watch your tone, prospector!
That is a pretty good scene, I wouldn't mind if this was the alternate climax. But the one we got was a lot more heroic and I guess they want to focus on Woody and Jessie's dynamic so that's why Buzz didn't have much involvement in the final cut other than grabbing Woody's hat and riding on Bullseye.
Yeah, in a vacuum I would like this more, but Woody and Buzz’s friendship was already developed in the first movie and with new characters, I makes more sense to flesh them out. Plus I think it’s way cooler to have them play out the finale that never got to be instead of being “hey, let’s do that one thing from that one episode”.
Sure is nice to see at least Wallace Shawn and Tom Hanks played their characters in the drawing board/table read.
That was way more epic than what we got, I would have loved that ending to have happened
They should have made this and alternate ending on toy story Blu-ray collection.
This would’ve made the movie 100 times better
Looks like Stinky Pete went to Japan after all.
In pieces I think.
Colin Brady Thank you soooo Much for uploading these Amazing Lost Media clips. Really appreciate it. Best Regards Divine.
You mean to tell me there’s an alternate ending of Prospector facing Woody and the others on the plane?
I know right
My theory for this version:
Buzz and the gang failed to save Woody, Jessie and Bullseye in the airport baggage handling room so they hijack a baggage train and drive to the plane. When they get to the plane, Buzz orders Rex, Hamm, Mr. Potato Head and Slinky to stay put while he sneaks on to the plane and get Woody, Jessie and Bullseye
If Pixar could keep this deleted scene into the final development, then Stinky Pete would be better off dead than living in misery with the Barbie girl who lives in the Barbie world.
I always partially imagined it as the Toy Story 2 final boss bout on the PS1... Minus the actual laser shooting and Abilities to be consistent, but it can still work.
I feel like this would have been a stronger final confrontation, and way more epic that what we got in the final movie
I kind of agree, but the way he lost was very fitting in the final film.
These toy story deleted scenes be dark AF. In Toy Story 1 they almost made Woody a colossal narcissist douche, and here in the sequel they almost legit kill Stinky Pete with plane tires 😬
Oh god...
Mr. Potato Head: Come on, boys! let's catch them!
They should have used this version! Thanks for uploading, I didn’t know about this.
The original draft of Toy Story 2. As Al gets out of the car, the toys slip into the interior of the car through a hole leading to the back seat and take control of the car, driving off in front of Al. Thinking he's being carjacked, Al steals a Pizza Planet truck conveniently nearby (much like the first Toy Story) and follows in hot pursuit. Woody starts throwing Woody's Roundup memorabilia out of the trunk to slow Al down, not noticing Prospector and Señorita Cactus coming out of their boxes. They try to stop Andy's toys from driving the car, but Woody tells them they've already lost as he puts on his hat, now a charred mess, and proclaims that he's worthless to them. Angered, Prospector and Señorita Cactus start to go after Woody, but Bullseye comes in and buck-kicks them out of the car. Al sees them land on the road and stops the truck, but before he can get to them they get picked up by two kids on bikes, whom Al fights with as he tries to get them back.
Dang Stinky Pete died in this Final Cut? I like this than his other defeat.
Stinky pete in the plane take off
Right yeah
So the Prospector almost died in a horrifying way, you know being a girl toy is not so bad
To be honest, I wish this scene wasn’t deleted. This actually looks better than the final scene!
This must’ve been a sample from the original rough cut of Toy Story 2 when it was accidentally deleted
OH MY GOD! I never knew this deleted scene even existed,You have just found a piece of lost media! Show this to Lsupersonicq!
That could have been better ending then the original
I've always found storyboards to be interesting. Basically seeing the blueprints for the final animation as well as a different version of the film we got.
It's incredible seeing these lost storyboards that we've never seen until now. I wonder why they were never included in a DVD special features?
Wait they weren't on the DVDs?!
Even though Stinky Pete is one of the most threatening villains in both the Disney and Pixar universe I really wish this scene had stayed because if there is one down side to common on the prospector is that his time as a villain is very short lived yes he can be quite intimidating especially during the airport but that really did not last long as the toys were pretty quick to take him down so as threatening as he can be at his worst he’s not that hard to deal with
It's Disney Universe, get it right, Pixar is not a Universe or a Franchise name it's just the name of an animation studio that's all it is, like DreamWorks Animation or Sony Animation,
I wish this made it into the movie
Jessie's original voice is sounded kinda good
I’m glad with what we got but this was actually pretty good 👍
I thought there were only 2 deleted scenes from Toy Story 2:
Godzilla Rex
Crossing the Road
The Crossing the road scene was completely animated by the time Lasseter took over the film... The history that the entire film was redone from scratch is s bit of a myth. What you call a deleted scene is actually an early version that’s re boarded several times until the final version.
So stinky pete Was Originally supposed to die
0:34 was
We were robbed!!!! Of the perfect battle!
Happy trails, Prospector.
0:33-0:38 at this point, he’s similar to jafar disguise.
Quite literally in this version 😅
I kind of wish that Buzz would have stayed in this scene. I still like the one that made it into the final film though.
SAME !!! I think we havent had any proper moments between woody and buzz in ts2 imo even tho they're meant to be an " inseperable duo "

Thought that sounded familiar. Amazing what gets used as temporary music.
Wow, I think I actually prefer this version of the climax than the one in the film. What we got is still great though.
Thanks! Even though this was the last version that I co-directed, I actually think the final was a big improvement having Buzz arrive riding Bullseye and also Jesse and Woody finishing the last episode that never was made.
@@Colin_a_BradyI wholeheartedly agree
I also agree this version of this scene is better than the final film one
Stinky pete defeats 0:31

How?!
This is amazing.
The actual movies climax is better.
Stinky Pete’s comeuppance is way funnier 😂
I think they could have totally had Stinky Pete return in the 3rd movie at the daycare..
BUT he went fully native, possibly a hippie with various tattoos
Who the toys confront FIRST after Buzz goes missing.
He fully embracing life with kids playing with them.

I’m sorry, is this music from The Rocketeer? This what they played during the Airplane Rescue.
Yes, it has to be. I thought I was crazy for hearing it as well.
A placeholder music?
@@ad7799 Except that it's liscenced music, but since Disney owns both Pixar and Rocketeer, I guess it's fine.
Just makes this 10 times more of an epic and exciting climax
So did Pete die in the original draft?
Now we know were Incredibles got the inspiration from.
So this is the original ending?
Please give us the next scene for this please we really want too know what happened next please because I’m really starting too love it more then the one else have
Part 2, please
I didn’t know prospector was gonna get crushed to death by the planes tires it would have been interesting if they put it in
このバージョンのトイストーリー2見てみたかったかも!
Personally I'm fine either way, plus the implication of Pete getting crushed would have given this movie a higher rating than it needed to be
Do you have any storyboard videos of the Black Friday reel from Toy Story
This is awesome!! Do you have an early sequence of when buzz meets the other buzz?

Because This is Not how Look Like
I want to see the full version of this climax!
It’s kind of weird to see a Toy Story clip with a totally different score and not Randy Newman’s score
Seniorita Cactus??????????
Where is She?
I know right
Señorita cactus was already written out by the time I started as co Director summer of ‘97. Even then, JL and Disney thought we had too many characters and told us we had to cut either Jessie or Bullseye. Only when we suggested making bullseye a mute character did they allow him to stay in.
@@Colin_a_Brady oh wow, so Bullseye was supposed to have lines?
@@scepticstream7176 Yep, he was originally supposed to be voiced by Martin Short!
@@nadiaz721 now I'm kinda glad he didn't speak, Martin Short kind of annoys me lol
I thought Stinky Pete The Prospector was with Ami at the end of the 2nd 1.
That was the finished film, this was an early concept.
The stuff you’ve been putting out recently is awesome! Do you have any more early TS2 clips?
Oh Dear!!
Wow! Awesome! Say, Colin Brady. You wouldn’t happen to have a storyboard of the Scenes, Woody’s Lost Hat and It’s Buster, would you? If so, Can you upload them? Pretty pretty please? 🥺🥺🥺
Hey Colin, just curious if you have it, are there any scenes that were straight from the original version of Toy Story 2? The version that was originally gonna be released for direct to video?

r/womenarewonderful
Stinky Pete reminds me of Yosemite Sam.
Where did you find a deleted scenes? I really wanna know what happens next after this. I really wanna see the whole climax.
Woody arm rope
What happens next
Why this scene is deleted?
ok, to be honest, I really hate Stinky Pete and I think what he deserved is to be tossed overboard in the airport. But, instead of falling onto another conveyor belt like Buzz did, he would fall to the ground. the timing of the fall and the way he lands would be in the same style of Wile E Coyote.
When this scene was lost right?
So why did this scene get cut in the final film?
Most likely because they wanted to give a proper conclusion with Woody's Round-up and Woody and Jesse letting go of the past and making their own ending. This is essentially Woody's story and the climax is centered on him and his friends he made on his own. After what Buzz went through, it's nice to give him a backseat for what's more important.
Still, while the version we got works as a character standpoint, this one is admittedly more epic, especially with Buzz in the mix being a different spin on the first movie's ending like Woody and Buzz flying again.
I wonder why this was cut.
One likely reason is character growth for Jessie as she comes to trust Woody against all odds; giving the final cut greater emotional impact. Plus, while Prospector's fate is open-ended either way, his sadistic punishment from Woody at least grants him what fate denied.
Where did you find these deleted scenes?
I think it was deleted this scene
Ride like the wind! 🤠
I wounder where you got the soundtrack from
It's from The Rocketeer which is also owned by Disney, so they probably used template music from their library.
Wow
What’s the music?
Where this alternate ending is came from?
This is probably from an early version of Toy Story 2. The film was scrapped and completely retooled when the people at Pixar was unhappy with how the movie was turning out and they agreed to let John Lasseter take over the production.
Does anybody know where the temp music in this video is from?
It is the score from The Rocketeer (1991) titled "The Flying Circus" by James Horner
