- Today we are heading to Cumbria, in North West England. Join us for 15 courses at L’Enclume, which is located in a small sleepy town called Cartmel. The founder and Chef is Simon Rogan. They received the first Michelin star in 2005, a second star in 2013, and its third star in 2022. They currently hold the number one spot as the UK's Best restaurant according to The UK Good Food Guide.

My name is Alexander. I’m the co-owner of a ONE Michelin star restaurant, and I’m on a mission - to find inspiration in gastronomy. I love fine dining, good wine and sharing what I know with other people.
Check out my restaurant:

i love how you always highlight the history of the chef and the restaurant, makes it more personal!

This man needs to start a fashion channel god damn the suits he wears are always fire

My one goal left in life is to look as well dressed as Alexander one day.
Totally agree

One of the best meals enhanced by having Hercule Poirot as your waiter.
😂
All that's missing is the monocle!
😂😂😂
Honestly, this video was fantastic. But I can't pay attention to anything with the majestic sommelier's mustache. I'm too distracted.
I will say I love how this puts in so much emphasis on the food and less on modernist cuisine. I think that's forgotten quite often. Would put this on my bucket list.
Can't agree more.
Everything on the menu looked like it was done purposefully. Too often chefs think about how they can utilize modernist techniques rather than should they. Everything looked clean, nothing looked out of place.
Great moustache gets the browny points on top.
Yes, looks more like really good cooking rather than getting all chef-y.
I don't need my food deconstructed, my intestines do a pretty good job of that lol
Hahahaaaa it seemed kinda odd 😂😂
It’s certainly a…choice
wrrr
How does this guy manage to never make a bad video
I love the honesty too, it's pretty uncommon to find channels that are honest when they rate the food.
Also the price is so affordable for a michelin star restaurant!
@@bwv. Yeah, affordable is a strange word when it comes to fine dining. But they probably meant it's affordable in comparison to other fine dining restaurants. If you live in a western country, it's a price many normal income people can pay once a year, if you want to experience it that badly.
@@bwv. Having seen some of his other videos, 350 for an entire menu as well as 150 for the wine pairing is very affordable
@@bwv. ignore the wine. Alexander's bills are practically 90% wine
@@CitizenLUL Yeah thats how my fiancé and I think about it, we go like once a year. Though tbh after you've done a few high level michelin restaurants the novelty does wear of and you are left with , usually, great food but ever waning exitement for it. Its not the type of cuisine I see myself making return visits to restaurants for, more of a one of thing
@@loganmontgomery1955 Lets see 6700 euros for 6 people that's over $11,000 AUS or roughly $1,800 AUS each!!! Sooooo affordable lol
The quality and direction of your videos is honestly top notch, even to the point that I consider that a compilation of your videos could be even a show in Netflix or Amazon prime
100%
Alexander loves his Krug.
And Krug loves his wallet 🙂
I heard that he is the ambassador for Krug in Hungary
bro would 100% drink it instead of water if he could
@@Treodorian if not now then he soon will be.
his accent is awful though
From au pair to restaurateur? - Hoping future videos reveal more about the path you've taken!
A video about his journey would be great
Living in Cumbria it’s great to see someone transform a whole area like Rogan has and elevate local producers as well as create his own farm. Over £1k per a head is definitely out of my price range but I can still appreciate that was a very high end meal. Fantastic video and production!
Remember that most of it is the alcohol in his case. Alexander often orders really expensive bottles/glasses that aren't a must, and add a lot to the price
@deangur the 15-course menu is only 250 euros, I say that's worth it. Yeah, usually Alexander inflates his bill with the wines, the usual ratio is usually 80% wine with his bills in all the videos 😅.
But yeah that's how fine dining usually makes money, by selling wines, they're actually losing money if the customers don't order wine 😮.
Some restaurants I heard don't make a profit but are funded by rich sponsors who just want to eat the food.
The food was £220 per head the rest is the alcohol!
I was lucky enough to work here ! Cant wait to watch this !
I have no idea how you’re able to upload such high quality videos from high quality restaurants so frequently! I love it but don’t burn yourself out (though maybe you can’t burn yourself out from such amazing food all the time!)
I think he was doing a research to improve his own restaurant. That's why he documented every trip in such detail 😃. Uploading it for us to see is just a byproduct, maybe.
It’s called a business expense. He does own a restaurant

Some of the more interesting looking dishes I've seen on this channel. Love the location!
This guy oozes class and elegance. Well done on making such informative videos.
The wine server with the handlebar moustache is the most lovable real life cartoon character I’ve seen
I mean..how can you NOT be a subscriber on this channel? It's just so good. This is literally some of the best content on the entire platform in my opinion.
Best restaurant in the UK I've been to. Stunning food, great service, great wine!
Have you been to the Fat Duck?
Another great one, I really enjoyed that you included the recipe for brown butter so those of us watching can experience some of the flavors for ourselves!! Brilliant.
I have to say the designing and visualization of the video is amazing. Really just noticed how much works go into it 8:01
Love your videos! On this one I enjoyed the mini recipe section with the brown butter - it was a cool detail and maybe something to add in upcoming videos.
on the fence...i think most who follow are pasted that
Hi Alexander ! Just when I thought your videos and reviews can't get any better, you jump like the cow over the moon ! No bar is too high for you ! What a meal, what a restaurant ! That fish had the most beautiful color I have ever seen in a fish. You continue to give us not just a video of food in all its creative glory, but joy and exultation ! And, this time, we got a food tip - browned butter. Great idea. Keep them coming. All the best, maestro !
I like it when you show the people, who you're dining with. I understand if they don't want to be on camera, but if they don't mind, then it is adding to the atmosphere of the video.
Always really liked Chef Rogan on Great British Menu. Seemed really humble. It’s great to see this success.
Ive seen many seasons of great british menu and no other chef stood out as much as Simon Rogan. Its been a dream of mine to go to his restaurant! Great episode!
Love that you switch to the history of the restaurant in the middle of the video, rather than just at the beginning! It flows really well.
I am at a loss for words. You have that right, Alexander. The setting, a little slice of heaven. ❤😊
Wow, what an experience. I did a small double-take at 9:05 because I thought they had served you wine from Sainsbury's!
Man this guys is so fun to watch. Whenever I am bored or having my dinner - breakfast - quick snack he is my go to watch.
Ive been waiting for this video the comments you made at the end are unbeliwvable for you to say its the best in the uk and possibly best menu of all tjme true testament to simon and his team
Brilliant as always, just like your tailor... 👌🏽
Wow! What an experience! Also love the change of music and picture in the outro!
Another superb video. L'enclume is obviously high on my radar as a foodie living in England but this has made me even more excited to experience it, looked like you had an incredible night there. As always, really love your presentation style that weaves in history and food knowledge.
Loved the interesting transitions and short recipe for brown butter, this video was a step above other (also excellent) ones on your channel!
Brilliant 🎉 such an incredibly creative, visually explosive menu. And, as always, Alexander, you deliver an impeccable, honest and heartfelt review, dressed in your ever stylish attire. Bravo ❤
I like to watch your vids at 0,75 speed Alexander. You're so fast with your (excellent, BTW) editing; and in any case, just 12 minutes would seem too short wouldn't it. ;-) Thanks for another great episode; I always look forward to the next one!
It’s the first fine dining restaurant that I could actually see myself eating all those dishes- yummo!!
You are great story teller Alex! Love your content!
Top job, love your passion & feedback, Alexander, Simon & his team deserve all the praise
I liked the little recipe of brown butter it was an appreciable touch. Great video as always.
wow . Just wow. Thank you Alexander for sharing this experience . Your expertise maximise our understanding
I went to L'Enclume for my Birthday on 1 March this year. It was a fantastic experience and I wholeheartedly cannot wait to return. I bought their lovely iron knife and spoon from their home shop too!
It all looked so delicious. Alexander, you've created a wonderful life for yourself, where you get to eat fabulous food and we get to admire! Great forethought, and it works.
I was just waiting for that background story of the head chef. I felt lost without it. But Alexander never disappoints.
It was a very cool surprise to see, in this video, a chef that I remember well from a very high level chef competition called "The Great British Menu", featured on Amazon Prime (over here across the pond). Can't remember how Chef Rogan fared but I do remember how quirky and passionate he was. The competition is well over 10 years old but well worth the watch as it features an incredibly talented roster of chefs that are judged by culinary royalty. Clearly Chef Rogan has scaled the echelons of culinary greatness, since and based on Alexander's review, justifiably. Thank you, as always, Alexander dropping small fortunes for us to be a fly on the wall. =)
I love this series. the latest one is on currently in the UK. Rogan is now one of the weekly chef judges
Really liked this one - it was like the early episodes when the editing wasn’t fast and crazy yet and the focus was on the food rather than the history. Loved it
Looks great, Alexander! I've never heard a bad word against L'Enclume, nice to see you cover it.
The mustache of the waiter looks like it is fake and glued on hahaha 😂
Part 2-We were Kidnapped by the Evil Genius Sommelier.
He forgot his monocle.
@@Heimishcook- it was in a Community Chest
North west england weather is very freezing, his moustache is only for the warmth
@@rbu2136 hahahaha
Of all the restaurants you have visited this menu appealed to me the most! What a marvelous experience. Thank you for sharing.
Some of the most appetizing plates iv seen on your show. This really made me feel like jumping on plane
Superb video - thanks! I’ll be looking to spend a few days in Cartmel with my wife and hope to eat at both restaurants after seeing this 🍺🏴👌🏻
Another great episode. I enjoy these!
Fantastic review! Was on my list before but this review just solidified it for me as a must visit!
Another feel good food adventure from mr Alexander, thanks for this great video .
A true joy to watch this man experience true joy.
I cant tell you how excited I've been for this to come up!
Alexander, thank you for the glimpse of excellence!, and the chef-patron is a real decent man, an example!
Simon Rogan is indeed one of the best chefs in the world, I remember him on the great British menu smashing against other Michelin star chefs
Looks absolutely amazing. For me this place stands out from the other videos.
What a great video of a restaurant I did not really know. Growing their own vegetables and herbs on this scale is amazing and shows they like to follow the nordic principles. The dishes look fresh, vibrant, complex and well constructed. The interior might be a little underwhelming on this level, but therefore the sommelier's moustache is a masterpiece. ;-)
Always on point with your videos 🙌🏽
Been waiting for this one! Love l'enclume and love the channel!
The best you can get on UA-cam! Thanks Alex!
That garden is incredible !
For those who want to try this food in London - Aulis is Simon's London chef's table. Always booked out as it only serves 12 covers but worth getting on the waiting list.
OMG the Champagne Gods!!!! I love this channel even more now!
Been waiting so long for you visit here!
dripped out once again alexander, loving the suits
Now that’s looks incredible ! Great video ❤
Another magnificent video. What a restaurant.
Great review of what is an amazing restaurant !!!
Just got done binging all of your videos earlier today, perfect timing!
Your channel is amazing. Thanks for producing these videos
Oh man we are looking for a "destination dining" place for my wife upcoming milestone bday. We were just talking about this place perfect timing for the video!
YES, I was hoping you would review this place.
Fantastic episode. This inspires me to elevate my cuisine even if I'm only a home cook.
So uplifting to hear your positive comments about the, UK. It's an honour to have influenced you.
Another great encounter
🥂⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great video thanks. I plan to visit in the next year or so. You are difficult to please on the wine front. Pleased you enjoyed the food
Man as a guy from the UK I was so relieved we didn't let you down here, it's nice to know we can pull out the stops when we're at our best.
Amazing video with great context and additional info
I am a vegan, however, enjoy watching your productions. It's an amazing format, love it mate.
It is one of your all time favorites. One day, can you do a ranking of all your culinary experiences ?
Now- I will brown butter for popcorn. Always a joy to watch, especially when you get champagne. Your joy is somehow transmitted through the ether to the viewer.
i have never been to a michelin starred restaurant, but i verry much enjoy all of your videos and hope to go to one myself one day
Best menu I've seen so far.
Great video once again and happy to say it’s a restaurant I have been too.
Excellent video! Discovered your channel yesterday ❤️
Looks outrageously good!
Thank you Alexander. My friend at school in Windsor was from Cumbria. I remember her accent foundly.
This might be the best food restaurant in the World, currently. In my beloved Lake District too. A place I’ve spent many, many years exploring. It’s truly a magical place, and this restaurant does it full justice. Which is no easy feat.
If you are ever in London happy to suggest a few restaurants that perhaps are the opposite of a 15 course back pain inducing sit down. I'll even pick up the tab (but not for 5) ! Great channel BTW!
This creativity in this level is exceptional.
High praise indeed. Now I really want to visit Cumbria :)
That front door was incredible...it was the same as so many doors you see on 60s builds
"This menu feels like the first 6 seasons of GoT, I just really hope it doesn't turn into the 7th and 8th ones" ~ this is how I know I can trust your food tastes.
I grew up in Cartmel, I always consider the place ‘the hidden gem of the south lakes’… Beautiful part of the world ❤
Loving this episode, Simon Rogan is a genius, his food is amazing...
Excellent, as always. Surprised you didn’t try a UK sparkling wine. They are making some wonderful wines.
Great to see you visiting my little corner of England. I'm not *from* the Lakes, but I never feel like a tourist when I am there.
A friend of mine (until very recently) worked at a 1-star restaurant near Windermere. Before I got my current job (not in hospitality at all), I did seriously consider committing myself into working in the best restaurants in the Lake District.
For me, the best thing in the Lakes is to go on a long hike and then have a slab of lamb leg with a great sauce, some chips and seasonal veggies.
Or, if I'm in the North Lakes, go to the Dog And Gun in Keswick and get their legendary goulash (OK, as a Hungarian, it will not be like your mum made). I look at the menu to see what else they have, but I will always get goulash.
watching this while eating instant noodles and dreaming of going to any of these restaurants
I visited LenClume last year and it was my first Michelin experience fancy starting from the top in the UK aha. It was absolutely phenomenal and I was so glad I could experience it and it was well worth the money just for the service alone!!
