Haha, I got completely reemed for some behind the scenes in my moderne video because I was an excited school kid and they said I was talking over him lol
After a nasty divorce, I had sold off all my gear, including a one of a kind 1988 Gold Hamer Chaparral Custom. For about 5 years, all I had was a Celebrity acoustic guitar. Then, a friend of mine needed some cash and sold me his 2004 Fender Special Edition Lite Ash Stratocaster. The Stratocaster was and still is a tuning nightmare. So, one day, I was browsing the wall at a Music Go Round, and I saw a guitar that looked like a Les Paul. As soon as I grabbed it off the shelf, I knew that it was special. The neck felt just right. It was pre-owned, but it was in like new condition. For $599 with a hardshell case, I went home with my first Gibson Les Paul. It is a 2005 Les Paul Studio Faded T series. It's like a 59 Les Paul Standard without the bling. I don't believe that it's weight relief because it's heavy. It has Burstbucker Pro pickups that sound awesome. Because it's a Faded T, it has the old school wiring. This particular year also has a mohagany top. This has been my go-to guitar for about 7 years now. There is something special about the late 50's Les Paul. They got it right.
Benny, awesome video, only you get as excited as I do for new guitars!!! I bought a Les Paul tribute last year , my first LP. It quickly became my number one.
Whoa Benny - thanks for the video and what a gorgeous guitar! I used to be exclusively Fender but I am getting more and more Gibson by the day. I bought my first Les Paul last year and now I have three, but I know it won’t stop there. I was actually born in 1959 and even my name is Gibson (really). I need a t-shirt with ‘The Gibson’ written on it and I thank you for keeping me relevant 😊
Thanks brian! I have more footage where that came from, spent an entire day picking Billy's brain! He's the best. Thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
That’s a great example! Definitely no pick guard on a flame or figured top - I also prefer it that way on a solid top, but I wouldn’t be as mad of a solid paint job is partially covered, lol. You know, it would be cool to get an idea how you like to set the knobs on your guitars from Gibsons, PRS, and other brands. Your tones are always luscious. A lot of that is the amps, but it always starts with the guitar. Would be helpful! Thanks for the laughs, education, and advice! And thanks again to Sam Ash - KEEP SENDING BENNY FREE STUFF SO HE GETS BURIED ALIVE (OR HIS OTHER HALF GETS MAD ENOUGH) TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO UNLOAD SOME AND SHARE THE WEALTH WITH US SUBSCRIBERS!!! 😉😂
Awesome video and what an unreal interview!!! AA's definitely have their own character. Sure, they're not gonna show up on the cover of a catalog, but I find with the AA's there's either mineral streaks and or little patterns you can find hidden in the top (sometimes it's a happy face, sometimes it's a dog or a cat, it might even be hidden subliminal messages!!!) Free the flame!! 🔥🔥🔥
My feelings are hurt :) - I am a pickguard guy. Three Les Paul's and guards on all three. Oh well, variety is the spice of life. Great looking guitar and I love non-chambered LPs - something very primitive about toting a big slab of wood over your shoulder and playing the shit out of it. Great video as always - KEEP ROCKIN' BENNY!!!
my friend's dad when we were teenagers had a 1958 les paul and the sound was so fat and mellow but my favorite thing about it was the neck fretboard and action was just perfect even for just sitting in a closet for decades.
Damn it Benny! You’re going to make your boy go out and buy another Gibson sir ya killing me! Lol love the channel man! Keep at it! Be at a milli subs before you know it!
If you do make sure to buy it from Sam ash at the link in the description! How do you think I feel? I got this sent right to me to tease me. Just packed it back up and taking it to FedEx today. It's hurting my feelings. Thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
We all have our humbucker story. I started on a Strat but needed the humbucker sound. I was attending community college in Watertown MA and went to a music store in neighboring Waltham during a break and there it was! An ES355!! I asked how much and the salesman said $250!! SOLD!!! I later traded it for an early 70's flame top Les Paul Custom. That thing screamed!!
Oh man, that’s not normally a finish that I would even consider for my Les Pauls, but wow does that look freaking awesome. Just what I need, more temptation….thanks, Benny. 😂😂😉 Oh, and how cool is that sitting there with the legend, Billy Gibbons….damn, you are living the life! 😉
Not gonna undersell the billy thing. I glow everytime I watch that footage and there's A LOT more where that came from. Sorry for the temptation. How do you think I felt? I just packed it up last night and I have to drop it off at FedEx. That guitar has been begging me to stay for a week now
Lol. I was watching the video and I was thinking, take that guard off man. And then you did. When I play my Les Paul with the guard on, the plastic flexes and it drives me NUTS. I much prefer to play it without the guard so I can feel the maple cap while I pinky rest my pick hand. And yeah, that's a banging top. I dig it.
Cool video Benny. Watched it from the beginning. Awesome story from the great Billy Gibbons. I always wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard, 50’s style. When I was in Jr. high school, in the early 80’s, my parents surprised me with my first electric guitar. It was a black Les Paul copy with the logo “ELECTRA” on the headstock, made in Japan. Although not what I was expecting, it sounded great. Still have it to this very day, along with several other guitars. 🎸👍
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I’m not sure. I’d have to look that up. I didn’t know about James Hetfield playing one. (Update) After looking it up, you are correct, except his was a white Flying V style guitar he used on Kill ‘Em All recording and touring. That’s cool history. Thank for that nugget of info. 🎸🤘🏼👍
I'm one of those crazy people that thinks the guitar looks better with the pickguard. I mean, if it was good enough for Les, it's good enough for me. Guitar sounds killer.
I've never had an issue with any of my gibsons but I almost always buy used. I've had to refret some vintage ones but never anything overtly bad from the factory. That said, I did review an 8500 les paul Ultima that couldn't stay in tune, so it happens. Gibsons have always been hit or miss and despite them picking it up, there has always been issues with quality. I still think that they make some of the best guitars in the world and have toured both the Gibson USA and custom shop factories and those people live, breathe and sleep guitars
Beautiful guitar! I appreciate how you demoed the clean sounds. It's funny that Les Paul himself was always on a quest for a clean sound, yet the Les Paul guitar's claim to fame is that iconic distorted, driven Marshall sound. You've got some guitars behind you in the demo that look like The Wizard of Waukesha himself may have modified to get his sound.
the better a guitar sounds clean the better it will sound with some dirt! It's all about signal to noise ratio you want maximum signal minimum noise because when you add gain you are amplifying everything the signal and the noise!
The thing I love about them is the nice chunky neck profile. And the sound of overdrive and humbuckers that you can't get with a fender. That's a beauty for sure.

I got stuck on 90's stuff. 93 Deluxe Plus Strat. 97 L P studio, 94 Pro tube Twin, 85 Boogie S O B, pedalboard with over half the pedals from the 90's. That's my main set up. But more 90's stuff.
