YAY! A new video!! Good to hear from you Benny. The guitars look fabulous - you're better than me in not getting attached to them. It's not emotional, just seems like every one I traded/sold I ended up wanting back. . KEEP ROCKIN' BENNY!!!
You’re one smart mother flipper - er, I mean guitar flipper! 😂😂😂 You had a lot of foresight and focus to start doing this years ago. I agree about the PRS thing too. People will start to find them desirable to collect as they become older being that nobody can afford a vintage Gibson. Same thing happened where people are starting to buy vintage Epiphones instead of vintage Gibson’s. People also want crappy Sears guitars from their childhood and pay big bucks for them. Yep, you started doing this just before the collecting boom happened, and you still know how to find a steal of a deal and the next great thing. Be proud you did this on a shoestring budget. It all started with one guitar!
You bring up a good point, too, is that the newer generations want what they saw growing up, not always the expensive stuff. Which is why certain guitars will always go I and out of vogue. I just have a good read on that, in particular in the realms I play in like PRS and Gibson. As always. thanks for your support and knowledge
Great words of wisdom and experience Sir Benny...we all need to realize and live within our limitations. I'm a small time collector of guitars and amps...for both my enjoyment now and as an investment and legacy that will be handed down to my son at the proper time. Love the channel!!
Great video Benny! Very well explained! You have a guitar collection that most players would die for. I'll be 70 in March and I thought I did a good job with 18 guitars in my collection. I believe my kids will benefit from my collection, lol. Keep showing us your collection. I for one want to see everything you got. Talk to you later Benny.
This is exactly my point its why i build up my collection the way i do every month is a new guitar no matter of price because 5 smalls equals 1 big anyone can do it at any budget i get to thoroughly enjoy i play my guitars every day from morning to night when people ask what i do with my spare time exactly this playing fixing or building
Benny..Great thread. I'm 62 & my guitar collection is only 32 pieces. But that a accumulating since 1996. Crap, when Gibson quit making the ES-135'S AMS we're blowing them out for $799 with HSC! That was 2002..and I bought 4! I knew then a hollow body Gibson in just ten years would be worth double at least. I sold two of them to dude's in Europe for $2400 apiece. Still have two..mint! Recently had my father pass away & got a decent inheritance, in which I DID purchase a new C8 Corvette..but I own it! But still think of how much $'s I'd spent that if I used you're method..I'd have BANK! Key is what you said..take OUT the emotion & know the market....
You got it. I'm not saying this is method is for everyone or that even everyone can afford to do what I did along the way, but it can be done and buying 4 of those guitars is a perfect example. striking while the iron is hot and waiting for the right moment. good score, my friend
I recently sold half my tech stock holdings due to all-time highs, leaving me with $400k. Should I invest in ETFs now or wait for a market correction considering potential inflation?
From $37K to $45K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family.
Oh, to be a deal hunter in the US, what a blessing. I tried doing what you say, and succeded to a certain degree, but where I live in South America it is not as easy. I managed to buy a CS Les Paul for really cheap, and spent two years trying to sell it. There's just not enough buyers on the high end market here, so I decided to stop chasing guitars to sell and concentrate on the ones I want to play.
For sure, your demographic makes a huge difference. I have a bunch of collector friends in Australia and it's just a different world (literally), I imagine South Africa being exponentially harder Thank you so much for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness if you haven't already 🤘😜🤘
1995, I found a ‘66 SG Jr. with original case for $500, it isn’t stock, & I’ve since added a new bridge and refreted, it had a Leo Quan, and an uncovered PAT Gibson HB but they just sat the baseplate on the body, no routing. In 2010 I was amazed to find it was worth $3K I’ve not kept up with its value, but that appreciation is considerable, since I’ve found it’s arguably the best SG, only year with the long neck tenon, I replaced the PAT with a SD JB, it already had Grover’s It will be a desperate day if I ever have to sell, but nice to know it was a very good investment, I had no clue in 1995, but I had the cash, and had been hoping to find one Bingo…..just like you say
They are insured….yes? I don’t know where you live, hopefully very few do, 😄. And you have a nice security system. Like the man said, a Benny post day is a good day. I like these longer ones’. Rock on!🤘
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Oh a few of them I did, I also wait for items to go on sale, or buy them when on sale...I; subscribed to the 401 Play Plan for a long time, people thought I was crazy!! I love those screaming deals when you catch them!! Great video!
I started with $50 and traded up and up and up and now I’ve got over 60 guitars and vintage tube amps. Now the issue is having way too many guitars. Selling them one by one is a beast. The other downside is dealing with the buyers. I love having lots of gear but to be honest, it’s not so easy to sell. Also, the increased value of the guitar is usually eaten up by seller fees and shipping.
I wouldn't say buying guitars would be a good primary investment, but once you have a foundation under you, they might be one of the best. Especially in a case like yours where you're able to make your guitar collection part of your income.
I don't usually sell. I'm a buyer. When I have sold its been mostly through private sales but I have sold a few guitars through reverb. it's been years. congrats on the 7 string!
I have a marine policy which protects everything in my studio on and off property. I also have 30k in insurance for unlisted items, i.e. stuff I haven't entered into my inventory if I get something in trade or don't want to constantly be modifying what is protected. I haven't figured out how much exactly I'm winning by, but it's well into the 6 figures in 15 years.
I believe that completely. It's a different game in the USA. I imagine there's other countries that are similar, but this is definitely more a US thing, although I'm sure that there are people elsewhere doing similar things as I am.
God bless Paul Reed Smith, but we know that nobody lives forever. I can imagine a pre-Paul and post-Paul era of PRS. Guess which ones will skyrocket in price?
I like you dude, but the firefly guitars won’t appreciate 1¢ The PRS guitars? Try to sell one for more than you’ve paid. I had a beautiful 96 ‘ PRS Custom 24 , 10 Top, in a custom color. ( waited 9 months for it) I hated how it played and sounded, I lost money selling it. I bought my 1958 custom shop LP Burst for $2300 new in 2003. Sold it for $ $8500.00 ( amazing Top and Braz fingerboard)
Did I mention a firefly guitar? Definitely not. And for reference, I have NEVER lost money on a PRS and I've sold easily 50. Many of the guitars I'll sit on for over 10 years. I never bought guitars with the intent of selling so when I have sold its always been for deals that have made me think it was worth it. Not everyone does it to the level that I do. You're clearly buying things at much higher prices than I'd ever pay a second look at.
That 50th Anniversary Explorer guitar isn’t worth $3500 in that condition and without the case & shroud. You are way off. Its about $1400-$1500 at best. Cool video.
you're CRAZY dude. First, it has a case, just not the original, and secondly it's absolutely worth that because I've been offered that. Go find one, I'll wait ✋️
