  • Sorry but other duties delayed production of English version of the range test video by almost 4 months!
    I'm still of opinion that Tesla Model 3 is the best value for money and in some aspects best EV money can buy in 2021.
    If you order a Tesla - please consider using my Referral code so we both can get 1500 km of free supercharging!

    Range test was performed in Poland on A1 autobahn on the stretch between Gdansk and Torun mid-February 2021. At time of the test car had about 2000 km on odometer and it was the first time it charged to 100%. We can assume no degradation. Battery type is E5D, which is based on LG cells and estimated NET capacity 74.4 kWh. ~4 kWh is a emergency buffer available below 0% (approx. 5% below zero).
    2 adults in the car, start from 11kW 3-phase charger with 100% but the battery was not pre-heated. Distance from city to autobahn - 12 km. Test simulates typical short family trip where most of the driving is done on the autobahn.
    Heater was on, we had our winter jackets on, but due to glitch of temperature sensors (Tesla is preparing a service campaign) we had to keep 18.5C on climate control to avoid uncomfortably hot air. I had used windscreen and rear window heaters when needed.

    Awesome bro, u r such a speed gambler. Thanks

      @VSEVstudies  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! It was almost legal, as GPS speed limit is 140 kmh and we had few kmh less than on speedometer. We met 2 police patrols on our way and they were interested in speeds 160 kmh and above.
      PS: on summer tyres we have only 1 kmh difference between displayed and GPS speed and this offset it seems to independent of speed, not a percentage.

      Thank you! Weather app tells me you have 14°C, while we have 0°C. This means you will have minimal range losses.
      At 120 km/h + 5 km/h 'barely legal' overhead at 14°C and my car should allow to drive close to 400 km. Updated 82 kWh LR - should have some additional margin above 400 km.
      So my results should be considered as a worst case scenario...

      @@VSEVstudies yes, I'm sitting in my car and it says it's 13°C. On two trips of about 290 kms (30 kms in urban driving and the rest on highways) I estimated between 420 and 460 kms with temperatures around 10°C and some altitude variations. I'm almost sure I got the 82 kWh battery 👍🏻

      Great! Check your EU Certificate of Conformity. In 'Vehicle type' you may find either E5LD - LG 82 kWh or E3LD - Panasonic 82 kWh (gross capacity).
      Initial degradation should be way less for LG compared to Panasonic.

      Great! It means your battery may not need pre-heating at all to work with full power and have full recuperation in colder months of Portugal. Panasonic pack - not so sure.

    Did you calculate average consumption? Great video, keep them coming :)

    • @VSEVstudies
      @VSEVstudies  2 роки тому

      Thank you!
      10:19 Average trip comsumption is 262 Wh/km based on the trip meter.
      Based on my later measurement of charging efficiency using single-phase UMC Gen2, we can add 2.6% charging losses.
      Since then Tesla has optimized recuperation and performance of the heating under winter conditions putting priority on seat heaters to allow colder air.
      After one year and 40 kkm I can still comfortably travel more than 230 km with 150 km/h and have about +- 10% SoC on arrival to the next charger. Degradation of my LG pack is ~2 kWh from 74.5 'Full pack when new'. Waiting for summer to check it.

    150km/h in winter conditions is irresponsible, even in Germany.

    • @VSEVstudies
      @VSEVstudies  7 місяців тому

      Well, I’m not encouraging it. It was barely legal back then, now it’s possible to get penalty points and from 50 to 200 PLN fine for speeding up to +10 km/h. Tried one time to see the limits of the car and tires. By the way, Tesla issued an over-the-air update and further improved stability in such conditions. Now it detects driving on a slippery road and prioritizes front motor recuperation to avoid loss of traction on the rear axle. Braking distance of course is longer, but stability is very good…
      So far 10 years of driving in Poland and zero penalty points…

      @@VSEVstudies yes that's useful, especially looking at all the YT Vida showing BMW owners loosing it even in the gentle curve on motorway now in slippery conditions.
      Btw, I noticed the front motor stops contributing if you have low battery, at least that's my feeling.

    Quite curious, that every electrohead i know has "comfort" temperature extraordinary low in winter (like 18 degrees) and extraordinary high in summer (like 26 degrees), meanwhile normal people, so called petrolheads, have comfort temperature at 22 degrees. 😀

    • @VSEVstudies
      @VSEVstudies  Рік тому

      I would not say about all Teslas, but mine has a tendency to overheat in winter and overcool during summer, so I tend to use 19-19.5 in cold months and 20-21 during hot weather.
      I have a possibility to get cabin temperature sensor data from OBD2, maybe that would clarify things a bit.

    • @AdamCiernicki

      @AdamCiernicki more to that - at least my Tesla is taking care of windows and cameras defogging and blows quite warm air most of the time. I had to set even 17.5 degrees Centigrade this winter (23-24) to keep myself at komfort conditions…

    Practically useless, a stop every 90 minutes

    • @VSEVstudies
      @VSEVstudies  2 роки тому +1

      In practice it doesn't look like that. I've had a few winter trips and with some tricks like battery preconditioning, slightly higher tyre pressure and CHILL mode real range is better than in my test.
      Example: 1100+ km trip to Vienna from Starogard Gdański I've took this year. We had to stop 3 times and car required from 20 to 40 minutes to continue the trip, that was just fine for me to recover.
      Also, if you drive even 5km/h slower or temperature and wind conditions only a tad better - real range also increases.
      After 56 kkm and two winters I would still buy a Model 3 Long Range now. No downgrade re: range comparing to our previous gas car converted to LPG and cheaper to run...
