We used to go to Fairhope all the time when we lived in Pensacola, it is so cute! We ended up moving to Huntsville, AL, though, which is also very nice and more mountainous 😊 much cheaper than FL too!
I'm intrigued with Gulf Shores! Is living right on the beach risky with hurricanes? Any neighborhoods you recommend 10 minutes away from the water for a single person? (condo, townhome)
Yes, hurricanes are risky especially the closer to the beach you are! Can't sugar coat this but that's the price you pay. We can recommend a LOT... of neighborhoods but it really depends on what you're looking for: Sq Footage, HOA fees, Year Built, Bd/Ba, ETC. We recommend all our clients to take some time and speak to us: calendly.com/yourrealestatefam so we can go over your specific needs 😊.
I'm sold on Baldwin County. Unfortunately, my wife is not. She had trouble walking on the beach and fell 3 times. I love the beach. I also thought the people were nice, too.
@LivingInLowerAlabama Sounds like a great plan, especially since you can't drink on Gulf Shore Beach. I'm doing some arm twisting. We may be in LA, after all. Like your videos.
@ronwinkles2601 I enjoyed walking on the sand. As a former marathon runner, I have no issues. my wife has had 2 knees replaced and a hip replacement. So, I think balancing is her issue.
Yes, it's fairly easy to find 100% grass-fed meat in Baldwin County. There are a number of local farms and markets that specialize in grass-fed beef and other high-quality meats. You can also check out the local farmers' markets, like those in Fairhope and Foley, which often carry grass-fed options. Some grocery stores in the area stock it as well. As for produce, Baldwin County is great for fresh, local fruits and vegetables. The farmers' markets offer seasonal produce, and you'll also find local farm stands scattered around. If you enjoy farm-to-table freshness, you’ll definitely have good options for produce out here, just drive in any which direction for 10-15 minutes and you'll keep finding them.
Appreciate you sharing realistic expectations that one should consider. How much income would a single retiree need to relocate to Baldwin County? I have read that Alabama is very tax friendly for retirees. Thank you for making another fantastic video. P.S. What is the average age of the people living in Baldwin county?
Rent is super high here, so buying is typically cheaper. I have seen 2 bed 1 bath homes for $215k, so very affordable. Sales tax is high (10% on average) and state tax is 5%, but if your over 65 you don't have to pay property taxes. Homeowner's insurance is very expensive, which a lot of people don't talk about. On average, I think it's around $3000 a year now.
You're right-Mobile does have a reputation for being one of the rainiest cities in the U.S., especially because it's so close to the Gulf Coast. The combination of warm, moist air from the Gulf and weather systems moving through the area contributes to a lot of rainfall. We get plenty of those afternoon showers and thunderstorms, especially in the summer, but the rain doesn’t usually last all day. It’s just part of the Gulf Coast life-quick storms and then back to sunshine!

We like sitting afar and looking at the beach with cocktails in hand 😁

Sand walking is very difficult, but it strengthens your legs if you can keep your balance.
