Once in a while, even a Gneisenau player will be smiled upon by RNG and get better than average dispersion in a battle and get a great game like this one.
the Gneisenau is the ship that when I sail it, it doesn't hit the side of a barn from the inside, but when I am in an opposing CL it will citadel me from 15+ km when in a turn, and they do this on a regular basis.
@@nemlas85 sounds like my history so far with the ship. everytime i used my bayern to progress geran bb line the enemy gneisenau would hit me from any kind of ranges, and as soon as i got the gneisenau i never hit anything that was further than 10km away and only hit reliably at 5km.... now i have the bismarck, and boy am i glad i´m done with the gneisenau
Got to say this is probably one of my best games so far! Gneisenau is probably one of my favourites so far as the Colorado is like pouring salt in my eyes. Got the Bismark a few days ago so that should be fun with a secondary build!
It is :) BTW having gneisenau means you can play her in (silver) ranked and learn the game even more with less ships and equal tiers sprawls. I highly recommend that, because that is what originally helped my learning this game (in T7 Myoko long time ago). Bismarck is a nice ships to have, but the first one you start facing T10 on T10 maps and those games can get pretty awful with feelings you do not have much battle impact due to lack of range and survivability (facing a Shima, Halland, FDR, Nakhimov, Yamato, Midway... is a Nightmare for new players and some if it will stay a nighmare). Have fun, sir! :)
BTW Colorado is second-worst from it´s whole tree. The worst is Kansas above her. North Carolina->Iowa->Montana are great ships, Minnesota and Vermont are different but good as well. Only these two are like "fck this, I´m out". That´s what we call "FXP material" :)

I see a fellow Gneisenau appreciator, she’s a fun boat once you get used to her and I can highly recommend using her in ranked or brawls if you ever get the chance. Just keep in mind, you must not roleplay as a DD just because you have torpedoes 😂
I allways found myself sitting quitetly in the back of the classroom when Jingles went on to blast the Gneisenau and thought I was the weird one for liking the ship. Speed, rudder shift time, secondaries, torpedoes; she plays alright! Glad to see you are softening your tone a bit! But yea; I would go for the Bismarck 11 out of 10 times after unlocking it too

Judging from the limited range of his secondaries just around 8km, I think he's equipped the aiming system modification rather than the secondary battery one. Hence the guns are a bit more accurate than usual.
I'm pretty sure 8.2km is the furthest they shoot with that ship, with all the secondary range buffs. Standard range is like in the low 5's.... And the buffs are all percentage based, which means short range gets buffed less than longer range.
The Bismarck is not more accurate than the Gneisenau. It can't be: it has the same sigma value and the same dispersion formula. It just gets two barrels more.
Yep. Bismarck was the biggest disappointment I have ever experienced in this game. It makes Freddie look decent, and in fact, after Bismarck, the Freddie WAS a breath of fresh air for me. That was back in 2019 when I did the German BB grind which just happened to be the very first line I took to T10. I was a very new player with hardly any games. Today I mainly use Bismarck in the random operations with a full secondary build - because secondaries work well in operations and co-op but are a shite choice for the current random battles meta. The regulation survivability build is recommended for all the original German BB's in random battles.

ehh... Bismarck was good only after I managed to upgrade it and get a 14 point captain in it, until then it was a complete nightmare, to play. (this was like 5 years ago)
I loved playing the Gneisenau, yeah the accuracy sucks but when you find that sweet range of having secondaries firing and close enough that I cant miss its like heaven. Not to mention the occasional cheeky torpedo kill by someone not expecting my cast iron rust bucket to release such fury.
A few things to corret there. For T7, Gneisenau has damn good armor, is actually one of the best armored T7 BBs in the game. For T7, her secondaries are among the best you can find and since the relevant captain skills don´t change with tiers anymore, they got even better. For T7, when she was introduced, she was one of the very few BBs that could overmatch other BBs combined with one of the fastest hulls around. Also, all german BBs have, for quite a long time now, the EXACT SAME dispersion formula for the main guns that the american line usses and they compensate less barrels with faster reload. Last but not least, comparing different tiers NEVER WORKS.
Scharnhorst and Gneisenau are easily some of the best looking T7 battleships, so that’s one reason to play them. Besides that, some people just have consistent luck on ships that perform poorly for everyone else. I usually have great games in Marco Polo, even though her stats mean that shouldn’t happen very often. Gneisenau can be brutal if she’s played by someone with that magic touch.
I have had mostly good battles in the Big G. Only one battle can I remember the dispersion being poor. Whereas, my Bismarck has really poor dispersion. Secondaries are a must for both. Thanks Jingles for another great video!
The fact that her sister ship still has the World record for farthest shot(s) landed does make me think about what's up with Gneisenau being so inaccurate. Been playing 2 years, GN is my favorite ship, it's so much fun to play and the speed when the brain is working is a weapon in its own right. .. but when the brain gets too "clever" for its own good.. embarrassing / shameful quick death is the stick the GN uses to beat humility back into you . That's what I love about the game play on with this ship , I've played games where I looked like some omnipotent battleship god ... then the very next round ... get literally just one shotted during some out of the box thinking and having to apologize to my team for being a clown. Hahaha
My 1st game with Gneisenau was awesome, including a dead CV, but then, having support helped It's a situational ship, very potent, but wonky guns do let it down, but in the right circumstances, an absolute beast. In the right circumstances, which often don't occur
I actually like the Gneisenau, because the main guns are not too inaccurate at short to mid range, and with its armour scheme, secondaries and torpedoes it makes a good brawler.
Gneisenau is a battle cruiser. Not a battle ship. It's a pub brawler. Joining the battleship battle line and plinking away from 16 odd km is a recipe for pain. It's a pub fighter. Plays best when you steam it directly into the fight, look for the biggest guy there and start throwing punches using the main guns as shotguns, then dropping torpedoes and using its speed to get out of dodge. Great fun.
Matches like this is exactly why I downloaded War Thunder and started playing naval. Any bullshit in that game is less than being constantly dropped by invincible planes and undetectable subs.
Even before the accuracy buffs, I managed the same average hit rate with any of my other ships when I was playing the Gneisenau (maybe because I was playing at closer ranges?).
I've never had that much of a problem with this ship since I got it many years ago, Jingo, m8 . . . it's not my favourite naturally - but I still usually manage to do at least 100k damage in it even when at bottom tier . . .
Coincidentally I've lived for the last ~50 years in a small village about 15 km from the small castle that Gneisenau received from Prussia for his deeds in the Napolean War. And where you can still visit his grave / mausoleum in a small park. I wouldnt troll about his name or pronounciation. But I like your style and humor
Gneiseneau is actually a ship I really like. The very first line of ships i farmed was german battleships. Not playing anything else than those. So their bad accuracy was all i ever knew playing the game until AFTER a had played the Gneiseneau. So I didn't really think anything of it. When i unlocked her, she was fast, well armored, had good secondaries, decent AA and her guns, while only having 6, did pack a good punch when they hit. Add the torps and that ship was my favorite ship. She is still a ship I really like playing!
The accuracy buff the Germans got some time back was feeble. However, combine that with Aiming Systems Mod 1 in Slot 3 and the Gneisenau guns are nowhere near as bad as their reputation.
Actually Jingles, damn i really wanted to write that for some reason. Nice to see such a good 'neisenau game *chuckles in german, also AA does work just not on the same ships as 'back in the day' except Worcester and Mino those are still scary when AA spec. Almost all of the newer Ships at 10 have good enough AA that 2+ can shred a squadron that's not cautious, except the russians cause they can drop out of AA range for reasons. And 1999 is not the millennial generation the cut-off is around 95-98, we are the often forgotten Gen Y, the pedantic ones that ask a lot of questions.

Just moved on to Bismark from Gneisnau a few days ago. Started getting citadells all of a sudden too. But yeah i´ve at close range. 5 km ish managed to unload all six guns at the center of a battleship and only hit with 2 shells, the rest went in front and behind the ship. Absolutly awfull guns but can certainly tank multible enemys from the front.

I do know what you mean with soviet carriers. Because the fact that you get to use your whole squadron at once means that in a way, you get be a bit more dangerous with your aircraft in order to do more damage. Which makes the whole long range thing weird. That serov in the game had no reason to be dropping from so far away.

Dear Jingles, Gneisenau is my most beloved BB after Scharnhorst. As from WoW proposed I play Scharni with a more tanky skill and Gneiseni with skilled secondaries. Both ships i equipped with those expensive captains with an ealier torp-recongnition, and shortened cd on the plane. I have no problems to hit with both ships, maybe every 4th or 5th engagement suffers from the Gneisenau-syndrom. Both ships are better the Prinz Heini., even Heini gots Hydros and 8 15 inch guns. But Heini is not as fast as the sisters, and the gun's range is miserable, the armament worse. I made several Krakens with my Gneisi, too.

No, Sir, with skill points and a flag you get over 9 KM. Most times i kill with Gneisi secondaries. The secondaries are often the death of many dds.

I've never had that much of a problem with this ship since I got it many years ago, Jingo, m8 . . . it's not my favourite naturally - but I still usually manage to do at least 100k damage in it even when at bottom tier . . .

Coincidentally I've lived for the last ~50 years in a small village about 15 km from the small castle that Gneisenau received from Prussia for his deeds in the Napolean War. And where you can still visit his grave / mausoleum in a small park. I wouldnt troll about his name or pronounciation. But I like your style and humor

Gneiseneau is actually a ship I really like. The very first line of ships i farmed was german battleships. Not playing anything else than those. So their bad accuracy was all i ever knew playing the game until AFTER a had played the Gneiseneau. So I didn't really think anything of it. When i unlocked her, she was fast, well armored, had good secondaries, decent AA and her guns, while only having 6, did pack a good punch when they hit. Add the torps and that ship was my favorite ship. She is still a ship I really like playing!
I use it as a cruiser killer and it shines in that role

The accuracy buff the Germans got some time back was feeble. However, combine that with Aiming Systems Mod 1 in Slot 3 and the Gneisenau guns are nowhere near as bad as their reputation.

Nice to see such a good 'neisenau game *chuckles in german, also AA does work just not on the same ships as 'back in the day' except Worcester and Mino those are still scary when AA spec.
Almost all of the newer Ships at 10 have good enough AA that 2+ can shred a squadron that's not cautious, except the russians cause they can drop out of AA range for reasons.
And 1999 is not the millennial generation the cut-off is around 95-98, we are the often forgotten Gen Y, the pedantic ones that ask a lot of questions.

Just moved on to Bismark from Gneisnau a few days ago. Started getting citadells all of a sudden too. But yeah i´ve at close range. 5 km ish managed to unload all six guns at the center of a battleship and only hit with 2 shells, the rest went in front and behind the ship. Absolutly awfull guns but can certainly tank multible enemys from the front.
Sees anything with wings, *Cries in Rio De Janeiro* but instantly grins upon dumping 14 twelve inch guns into a broadside.
I first thought we would get a vid after watching a clan battle that ended in just enough time to take the first cap, LOL. I do tip my hat to the fight as it is well worth being a part of.

I do know what you mean with soviet carriers. Because the fact that you get to use your whole squadron at once means that in a way, you get be a bit more dangerous with your aircraft in order to do more damage. Which makes the whole long range thing weird.

Dear Jingles, Gneisenau is my most beloved BB after Scharnhorst. As from WoW proposed I play Scharni with a more tanky skill and Gneiseni with skilled secondaries. Both ships i equipped with those expensive captains with an ealier torp-recongnition, and shortened cd on the plane. I have no problems to hit with both ships, maybe every 4th or 5th engagement suffers from the Gneisenau-syndrom. Both ships are better the Prinz Heini., even Heini gots Hydros and 8 15 inch guns. But Heini is not as fast as the sisters, and the gun's range is miserable, the armament worse. I made several Krakens with my Gneisi, too.

It appears the Gneisenau in this match has vastly more accurate guns then my Massachusetts.
