I doubled as one of the samurai warriors on my horse for this !! Red head typical Irish girl got sunburnt during this - ah black wig covered the red hair 😊
I am the Samurai in the middle. I remember the food truck serving us raw fish to simulate Sushi. I appreciated all that. Ken Hayashi Aka. Samurai Wizard 10x Emmy Show Awards Titles 4 Black Belts
Part of the video was filmed on my grandfather's land in the bog lands and high mountains of Connemara, the Japanese samurai warriors staying at my cousin's bed and breakfast place but they recked the beds, they used the bedposts to practice their sword skills tried learning Irish stepdance but were not very good at it, they did not talk much only about the battles they had won and the future battles they would have to fight when they got back home, They drank a lot of Strout and took 47 large barrels of Murphy's Irish Stout back home with them
And for those of you who don't speak Japanese, the leader says "Ikuzo" which means "let's go," then tells the barmaid "Ganbare," which has a ton of meanings that mostly mean hard work in trying conditions but in this context translates as "Good luck t'ya." The audio isn't very good, though, so he might be saying "Kampai," which is their version of "Cheers," (Lit; "drink your glass empty.") Though usually you would say that before drinking and only tell someone good luck when you're leaving.
There was also a series of short ads showing each one of the warriors going up to the bar and doing some kind of flashy move. One guy was doing something with a fan. These might have been cinema only.
Yep, definitely that time. I have a feeling it might have been in response to the Guinness ad with the guy anticipating his pint, which was mid '90s too.

devontodetroit the real samurai actors weren’t on for stunts galloping around the hills in Galway 🤔
Fascinating, thank you for sharing :)

One of the few ads that really sticks with you over the years. A perfect blend of coolness, comedy and wonder. Thanks for posting.
I remember everybody in school, picking up their bottles like in this ad.
Why do they pick them up like that? Is it an Irish thing or Japanese thing?
What a class advert! Kudos to whoever did this. Can’t believe I’d never seen it before.

Not from 1990, was first shown about 1995.
This wasn’t 1990 was it? I’m pretty sure it was more like 95-96 because I remember it being on tv then. Unless they were still showing it.
You're right. About 1995, it was followed by the mountaintop one and the animated manga circa 96, 97.

@@unakennellyI’d say you’re 100% right on that one
“We need something abstract and weird like Guinness; what can we do?”
0:36 neat flourish wonder if it's based on something
Yeah. What the heck is that?
It spins the liquid so that there is no air pocket letting you drink it all in one go.
It's a 'homage' to the early films of Akira Kurosawa such as The Seven Samurai.
LOCK THE DOORS, THE WEEBS ARE COMING

Takes one sip of beer and then leaves without paying... Disgraceful!
Oliver Douglas the old fellow spots this and then comes back to the bar to polish them all off.
PERFORM SUDOKU!!!!
They have honurabru baru-tabbe.
Yes but they later saved the town from a horde of rampaging Jackeens so it evens out.
@@EgoEroTergum 😂😂😂
What is it with Murphy’s Stout and samurai? 🤣
They are related, they leave a lasting memory long after the battle has been fought and the stout has been drunk
😂
