- In response to recent hate crime and bullying against Muslims due to islamophobia, we walked the streets of downtown Toronto to see the reactions of Canadians on what they think makes a Muslim.
The response was touching and inspiring.
In addition, to see peoples reaction to islamophobia we wrote the word "terrorist" (one of the few words Muslims have been called, myself as well in addition to other verbal attacks). Every single passerby who spoke to us was offended and apologetic to see the word.

I urge non-Muslims to learn about the true Islam. Pick up a Quran and learn for yourselves the truth. People may interpret any faith in how they choose to perceive it, but the Quran is the only unaltered message/scripture.

Shi Wei Tan They're not heartless. They're rational considering that the Quran has verses in it that tell them to kill those who don't believe. There are so many violent verses in the Quran, but everyone wants to wear rose-colored glasses and pretend they don't exist because 'feelings'. Oh please, maybe if this girl was like, "I may be muslim, but I denounce it's violence", I'd have some sympathy for her, but if she expects everyone to ignore the violence/tyrannical parts of the religion, then thats is one entitled, deluded person, and not calling Islam out for it's violence only further enables it.
There is for example a verse saying "Kill the disbelievers whereever you find them." From an outsiders perspective, that looks violent and wrong, to which I agree, but you see my friend, the Qur'an is not one single piece that was revealed to Prophat Muhammad (S), but rather piece by piece and verse by verse. At one time, the Prophet and his companions were kicked out of their hometowns for being Muslim and they wanted to fight back but God did not permit them to do so. After a while God has sent another revelation granting permission for the Prophet and his companions to fight back and take back their hometown, thus: "Kill the disbelievers whereever you find them.". Again, they were yet not allowed to kill the disbelievers when they found them, but drive them out of the town. If any more were to be found hiding or staying, they were the ones to be killed, so that is the meaning of ""Kill the disbelievers whereever you find them." If a child for example told his friends "My dad tried to kill and eat me!" They would think OMG what a terrifying and bad father, but what if in reality, the dad put on a costume and they were playing tag and the dad was like "Raawr, Im going to eat you, RAAWR", wouldn't that change the whole perspective of the situation and the whole point of what the child said? Be honest.

I’ve lived in the United States for a long time. But I never saw true meaningful racism till I came to Canada. The United States has no laws against the hijab, but in Quebec I had a teacher who was absolutely an amazing spirit. The students loved her and we all had good grades in her class. After a year she was fired because she wore a hijab. “No religious influence on the students allowed” which included hijabs, turbans or burqas. But all over the school there are crosses engraved into the walls. There were are catholic art paintings, and the art class had a cross on the wall. They didn’t mean “no religious influence” they meant no religion other than Christian or Catholic influence.
