- A good monocular has become quite demanding to find and it was a pleasant surprise for many enthusiasts when Leica presented a new 8x20 Monovid in 2009. Ever since then, their model is still one of the best products offered on the market.

Nice review... I have massive hands and this monocular is no problem for me. I don't understand why people act like it's so hard to hold, it's not. The monocular has a very nice weight to it, it's surprisingly heavy for its small size.
This monocular has incredible clarity, color, contrast, and quality. It's the finest monocular I have ever looked through.
It's well worth the $550 and as said by others, if you take care of it, it will last a lifetime.
Do you think it's capable of spotting aircraft in the night sky and or star gazing?
@@Josue-xd5ru Hi, no. The “8” in 8x20 is the magnification. The “20” is the size of the lens, meaning 20mm. This is relatively small so it doesn’t let a lot of light in. For night time, you would want something that let a lot of light into the lens. So you want something that starts at 42 to 50. Thus you would want a 10x42 or 10x50.
ATN makes digital binoculars with night vision that are also good for seeing at night.
The one aspect of the Monovid, that I find most impressive, is its build quality.
It is frightfully expensive, for something so small, but the whole package, of leather holding pouch, and close focus adapter lens, makes it a good investment.
This is one optical instrument, that if looked after with respect, will last its owner, their lifetime.
X1.75 speed helped keep me awake 🤣
Thanks, i followed your advice from the begin and WOW you were right!!!
Review covered everything except its optical performance!
Optical performance can only be described as great... for it's size.
You can get better and cheaper, if you're willing to give up size (and build quality).
I can assure you the optical performance, is superb.
It really impresses, when you use it for close up magnification, when the clarity is incredible.
Exactly. So many of these reviews say everything but what you really need to know. I have evaluated these extensively and the field of view is very tiny. The focus is sharp but 8x is far too high a mgnification for a monocular, or even binoculars, in my opinion. I'm all about light, light, and light. You need a big tube and LOWER magnification to get this. I like 6x binoculars and 4x or 5x for a monocular. I always want LARGE FOV and LOTS OF LIGHT. High magnification with a small tube will NOT give you this. Plus, this monovid is VERY HEAVY for a monocular.
Best Review..
Thank you!
Very nice review telling us what this item is exactly. Thank you. Is there a way to use this Monovid with a camera like smartphone?
Thank you, we're glad you liked it! As far as we know, there's no adapter available for that.
@@OpticsTradeEU OK. Thanks.
How does it work with older shaky hands?
Thanks for the great review! I have a question: is it filled with nitrogen?

@@claudiostratta6943 Didn't understand. Yes or no?
Is it possible to use it in a rifle ? Can it withstand gun fire recoil ?
No. Watch our video debate about monoculars to see what you use them for: ua-cam.com/video/wncKcBMFquc/v-deo.html
Good review, though the price seems a bit steep.
The price is very steep, especially considering you'd need a tripod to get a stable image! I've returned mine.
Your paying for the Leica name.
I enquired on the cost of a replacement silver packaging box for my 7x42HD+ Ultravid binoculars.
My dog accidentally destroyed mine by accident.
Expecting a price of around £20-30, i was blown away, when Leica told me a replacement was £80 plus VAT.
All it is, is a silver cardboard box, but anything with the Leica brand carries a hefty price.
Even the Leica carrying lanyard for my binoculars costs just over £100.
Better than valium.
Overview not review.
Terribly disappointed in this monocular. It's just unmanageable to hold for me. I cannot get a stable image, so it renders the (albeit excellent) lens quality null. My hands are average sized (male). This just feels so fiddly in my hand...
