There's also a matter of art styles that helped Astro stand out in the showcase. In a sea of realism broken up by occasional anime and comics, a toonish game like Astro can really stand out.
Oh hell yeah it instantly got my attention when I was already checked out of that state of play. It's early of course but I have a feeling Sony's first slap is coming and it's with Astro Bot's shiny metal hand.

Sora bot- Spikey hair and a custom keyblade
Donald bot- Blue hat and PS Move controller
Goofy bot- Yellow hat with PlayStation Logo Shield
I don't know, Smash bros couldn't have Donald and Goofy, maybe Astrobot can't have them either

@@harveywhitby8934 We're talking about Disney here, and if not even Nintendo was able to add Donald and Goofy spirits in Smash Ultimate, what's the chances of a proper cameo for both in Astro Bot? The bots are getting fully fleshed outfits to better represent the characters, which only makes their inclusion alongside Sora all the more difficult.
luckily we can still enjoy colorful platformer...i can't imagine to be a happy gamer without them
This game needs to do huge huge numbers bescuse this needs to be a wake up call for them i want PlayStation to return to games like Sly Cooper, jak and Dexter, rachet etc and other old IPS they own !
Then people need to buy and support the game, but I guarantee that when they announce the price on June 7th, suddenly all those who claimed they were hyped for AstroBot, are going to make excuses not to buy it. Doesn't matter if it's priced low, fairly or high, seen it happen too many times, always an excuse "Oh I'll buy it when it goes on sale" most never do, or there's "I'll wait for it to come to PS Plus", it happened with Sackboy A Big Adventure & MediEvil Remake, both great games that sold poorly, and if Astro's Playroom had a pricetag on it, same thing would have happened. But then people wonder why Sony are too afraid to invest in games like Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, MediEvil, LittleBigPlanet, Ape Escape etc

I can’t believe how much they’ve gotten me to like this little guy. I genuinely look forward to more Astro’s games as the PlayStation grows throughout the years.
Astro Bot is incredibly important for the entire industry as well. If Astro Bot does well, we will see more 3D platformers with big budgets as opposed to 50 more soulslikes.
There'll be 50 more soulslikes regardless. All this'll do is maybe squeeze some more platformers in between those soulslikes.
Definitely a day one purchase for me. Plus I have a nephew that loves Astro's playroom and he will love this too. His birthday is in September so it's perfect!

Preorders go live on June 7th, I'm HOPING there's a Collector's Edition with an AstroBot statue, I would happily pay whatever amount they charge for it, while also buying a 2nd copy albeit a Standard Edition.

I think Astro Bot is much grander than what Knack could ever hope to become. But to be fair, I wonder if a Knack 3 would've fixed all the problems the other games had.

I love how astrobot reacuemission is a fully fledged vr title based on a minigame from a vr collection of minigames also featuring astro
I never preorder, but with Astrobot I’m making an exception. Astrobot was the first game I played with my PS5 and it was great. I want more and I bet huge numbers will feel the same.

This is a really welcome callback to the good ol' PS2 era types of games. Don't get me wrong, I love me some epic cinematic games and realistic graphics, but this is the kind of sh I grew up with and what video games were made for.
I have to admit the Concord part made me a bit cynical, but the Astro Bot part awakened the gamer in me. Stuff like that is my joint ^_^
Little big planet used to be the series wich made playstation refferences. i still use my metal gear 4 costume on lbp3
Here's some ideas I've had for awhile, probably better off saving for the next AstroBot game though. I think it would be cool if the next AstroBot game had certain levels based off of iconic places from PlayStation IP's, like Empire City from Infamous, the Streets of Yharnam from Bloodborne, Tsushima from Ghost of Tsushima, Blackwood Mountain from Until Dawn, Metropolis from Ratchet & Clank, Venice from Sly Cooper, Sandover Village from Jak & Daxter, Gallowmere from MediEvil or Craftworld from Sackboy/LittleBigPlanet. Certain levels will have their own gimmick befitting of that level, for example; a Side-Scrolling level based on Empire City from Infamous where you traverse the rooftops and ride on wires while being shot at by AstroBotified Reapers, First Sons & Ice Conduits, the level concludes with a fight against an AstroBotified Kessler or The Beast. Maybe the Streets of Yharnam level could have Astro play with the Bloodborne mechanics and there's even 3 AstroBotified Bloodborne Bosses you have to defeat in order to complete the level, obviously the bosses will be toned down. Another level could be based on an iconic location from the The Last of Us even have it play like The Last of Us where you play it like a Third-Person Shooter and can scavenge for supplies to craft weapons, then the level caps off with a boss fight with an AstroBotified Bloater. Maybe there could be two versions of every one of these types of levels based on these PlayStation series location, one that plays like your typical platformer variant of that level it borrows influence from, and a seperate level that plays a bit more like the level it's based on, giving additional variety to the traditional platformer gameplay.
You know what's funny? Your whole idea was the original concept of PlayStation All-Stars before it became the party fighter
@@hwanniggles187 - I thought PS All-Stars was pitched more as a Platformer PvP game similar to the Multiplayer in Ratchet & Clank 3 & Ratchet Gladiator, that's what I remember hearing awhile ago at least.
@@hwanniggles187 Actually, that game was first conceptualized as a 2.5D capture the flag game before the shift to platform fighter.
I am so excited for a new Astro Bot!!! I replay the PS5 game all the time and even my brother has told me that he goes back and replays it often, and we both have a very different taste is video games. This is very exciting news.
It said "No Views" lol I thought I was the first...I absolutely cannot wait for this game to drop! I enjoyed the hell out of the free Astro game and dug my way through all the secrets and collectibles 🔥
I'm not against new mascots and IP's for Sony. I just wish they'd remember the old ones and give them the respect they deserve.

Stellar Blade is my current GoTY, but FF7 Rebirth is a really close second. I can’t wait for Astro Bot though. It’ll be interesting to see how it does sales wise.

if priced right id def get it. it seems that astro bot is the new sackboy. sackboys greatest adventure or whatever it was called was fun, and the fact it went to steam made it even better. hoping astro bot would get this treatment as well in order for more multiplayer exp.

I liked Astro's playroom and I'm excited to play Astrobot, but don't act like this is the only platformer on PS5 made by Sony and everything else has been gritty and realistic and that Nintendo is the only one making platformers because that's false. Didn't you play Sackboy's big Adventure and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart? The PS5 has platformers too, not just Nintendo. Heck, I have yet to see Xbox making their own platformer yet.

Astro Bot is indeed important for a lot of factors, not only gives hope for a lot of other mascot platformers franchises lost on Sony's radar (like Jak & Daxter, Sly and MOST IMPORTANTLY Ape Escape) but also raise the bar for Nintendo, and hopefully Microsoft one day with Crash, Spyro and Banjo-Kazooie, to respond to this. And everyone these last 2 years where only talking how mascot platformers are dead yet again. Dosen't seems like it now 😂 Thanks to Team Asobi!

Platformers have been all but abandoned outside of the indie space. I still like them though, unlike the live service trend we are seeing these days which sucks.

With the embarrassing showcase that was Concord, I think people are focusing more on the little fella than ever, and without the limits of VR, people are willing to give this franchise a try. Even if I never cared about the focus to narrative focused experiences, something like this can shake things up while other devs focus on the triple A games PlayStation wants, dare I say, I want more games like Astro Bot. People have been asking for years for the return of X franchise, but like, I want new PlayStation platforming series too, and not just platformers even, more experimental abstract games like Gravity Rush are always a blessing.
Now, if people are just using this series as a bullet against those "generic movie games" and not vote with your goddamn wallet, you're part of the reason why PlayStation focuses on those nowadays. If you want this publisher to be more varied, then follow up on your promise, buy this game and talk about it, word of mouth is more powerful than you think, don't just say how great it WAS when the appreciation wasn't there when it needed it most.

I'm sorry but Concord is just another FPS, GaaS, game. Which there is already plenty of. Granted, Sony needs a good FPS game. But NOT a GaaS one! Just give us Kill Zone or whatever other FPS, single player game they have laying somewhere that people really want. That's the only thing we ask. And keep doing your regular good single player game instead of looking at another Fortnite. I know you want to go after the big money which is logical for a company. But frankly, you were doing good already! Just my opinion of course. I hope you guy's can turn this ship around again. Though i'm pretty sure of it!

Team Asobi was so silent since Japan Studio closed. All this time they're just cooking up this PlayStation mascot franchise solely for nostalgia factor cuz the creative freedom of reviving an old IPs are no longer there. Sony has a lot of restrictions today compared to back then.

I fell in love with AstroBot when I played Astros Playroom on my PS5. It is not only a really good tech demo what the console and specially the controller can do, it is an amazing love letter to the entire Playstation franchise. I remember stepping into the first portal that leads to one of the levels and I was about to pick up my phone because I expected a loading screen but I was instantly in the level.
I’M SO READY FOR THIS GAME!!! GAME OF THE YEAR!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I hope this leads to not just platformers again but all kinds of different creative more risky AA endeavors
Mate Sony Interactive Entertainment are making more riskier AA endeavors possible thanks to their countless initiatives such as PlayStation China / India Hero Project, PlayStation Indies Development Hardware Program, PlayStation Partner Awards Asia Japan, PlayStation Spain Talents, indie Game Incubator among others, best thing is more smaller projects can be made without any financial first party risk

With how saturated the market has been with cinematic games, it is so refreshing to get a mascot platformer. I loved seeing Ico and SOTC represented in the trailer and really want Sora or at least a KH reference in the game.
Now people just need to buy and support the game, but seeing how poorly Sackboy A Big Adventure sold, DESPITE the fact it was a great game.
I mean the big difference is that LittleBigPlanet is known for its 2D, creative mode stuff with large community stuff instead of a simple 3D platformer which resembles Mario 3D World. Astrobot was a clear 3D platformer since day 1. So seeing a fully fledge Astro Bot game is a treat. I'm positive if an official LittleBigPlanet 4, everyone would go nuts. @@JP_Loco_93

From the beginning I thought Astrobot should absolutely have a full game and I can't believe it's taken Sony this long to release it. And the best part is they thought Concord was the next big thing but people are seeing Astro bot as that instead for good reason. It's like in the Eisner days of Disney when he thought Pochantas would be their next big seller and assigned all the best people to it while the "B Team" got Lion King. And then curb stomped Pochantas so hard in response.
Mate it has taken Sony Interactive Entertainment 'this long to release it' because Team Asobi wanted to make it as big as possible hence the long development timeline it has taken

Astrobot as a concept is fanfuckingtastic. I watched a friend play the first game and I gotta say it's really sad that this is the game we got that does so many cool things instead of a mainstream title.
Now this is what I’m talking about. This game looks so quirky and fun. I am a Nintendo guy and love platformers. PlayStation has never had a single game that appealed to me. This game finally did the trick and I’m actually excited to use the PS5 my wife really wanted lol
After 40 hours in FF7 Rebirth and still at Ch11, I'm needing a more chill and quick game to reset 😂

I genuinely think it's more important for Astro Bot to succeed than any other PS5 exclusive in the entire lifespan of the console so far so that Sony actually gets the message of what people want, as well as just crawling themselves out of their financial issues that they literally created for themselves by hyperfocusing exclusively on cinematic, phototrealistic, AAA, walking simulators. (Not to dunk on God of War and Spider-Man or anything)
People wanna play actual games with heart and soul. I don't care how many skin pores I can see in a reflection of a reflection, of a reflection. I want to play a game thats selling point is that it is FUN TO PLAY, and I want to play platformers that aren't Mario. I want to play Jak and Daxter. I want to play Sly Cooper. I want to play Rachet and Clank. And though it's not up to them, I want to play Spyro.
I hope they make it choose your own path like Mario galaxy where you get to choose what level that you want to play
Astro bot looks hype! Never knew about the vr game but the demo astro playroom was awesome to test the new controller and no other game has used the controller like that game so it's hopefully gonna be just as unique as well!!

I'm excited not only that Sony is doing this but also that there's been such a positive reaction from people. But I also can't help but wonder where all this enthusiasm was when Sony released the Sackboy 3D platformer.

I'm definitely going to buy this I sadly never bot the one that requires a VR headset but I have played the tech demo on ps5 and have played it a handful of times and still love it so I am definitely looking forward to this game

This game, and Sonic x Shadow Generations are my two most anticipated games
UA-camr hyperbole is so exaggerating. I love Astro Bot. I think it's the best thing to come outof the Playstation platform since Wipeout or Tekken. But, lets be honest this game like the others in the franchise won't be a game changer in terms of sales or brand recognition. It will get released it will sell decently but not amazing and everyone will move on. This game is not as important for Playstations as God of War, the Horizon series or Last of Us

3:05 it is actually his 4 game his first one came pre installed on the ps4 and the second one was on vr and the third is obviously pre installed on the ps5
During the last state of play I felt like the host were lying when they said these games look incredible but in reality they looked just like every live service games that are always shown. It's like game media like IGN are just following a script. I thought they were joking when they showed the mounting climbing one

Not having KH in this game would be downright stupid. Not just because of popularity, but also since KH (1 in particular) is a platformer at heart (lol, see what I did there?).
Sidenote: I hope Stellar Blade and Helldivers get their due recognition.
