They did damned good job, the guitar build up at the end was awesome. Chris poured his soul into it, so what if he's not Gregg, he isn't trying to be. Mr. Allman didn't seem to dislike at all.

I love Duane Allman and I damn sure bet that everyone on that stage loves him and has been influenced by him. Nobody here is trying to upstage Gregg or Duane….they are paying respect. Duane and Gregg’s prowess and legacy doesn’t need you to stand up for it, it stands on its own just fine. Music isn’t a competition…it’s an art and it’s subjective. You are completely out of order. What we all should do is listen to this version first then immediately go listen to the allman brothers original and your ears will not deceive you that the allman brothers version is the only version to listen too. I have been following the Allman Bros Band since I first heard them almost 50 years ago. The first album I heard was on an FM station out of Portland, Oregon. My girlfriend had just broken up with me, so I did what I always did back then after receiving bad news. I had a little herb, and turned out all the lights, to match my mood, and tuned into the best FM station at the time. I can't remember the name of the station, but the DJ said he had just got in a new record. He said it was the new ABB album which happened to be a double live album. I had never heard of the Band before, then he said he was going to play as much of it without interruptions as he could. Back in those days the weren't many rules to follow. So he put the needle down and for the next buck twenty-five I was introduced to the best jam band in the world. When this song played at the end it was 22+ minutes of the best damn song I ever heard. It still is.
I have heard some pretty good knock-offs of it in the last years, Mountain Heart does a good one. This one though captures the heart of the song as good as any I've heard. This song should always be recorded live as this one was. I will be back here to hear it again. Great job from all the members of this band

Kenny Greenberg with Bobby Bradford Blues Band. Kenny came to Nashville from Louisville, Ky with his best friend at the time Jeff Zimmerman, and immediately hooked up with Bobby. That was around '71, I think, anyway, he had only been playing guitar for about 2 years then, maybe a little more but he was smokin'. Before long, after Bobby joined the Navy, Kenny was doing the sessions thing from Nashville to LA and back. He is an awesome human, a real down-to-earth guy. He makes you feel like you belong. He never got caught up in all that B/S that was happening back in the day! He constantly played gigs, went home, and practiced until the sun came up then he slept. Are there any aspiring musicians out there? This is the way it's done! It starts with a dream then you become dedicated and with that comes sacrifice. Without all 3 all you have is hope. Anyway, awesome rendition of Whipping Post with Gregg in the front row!

I was in high school when the Allman Brothers first album debuted. This song is on it, of course. The first time I heard the album it was a religious experience. Hell, it still is after 50 years and hundreds of listenings. I'm still hearing nuances I hadn't heard before. This song is as close to a rock anthem as there is in my book. I don't know if its ever been coverd before but if someone is going to do it justice, Mr. Stapleton is the person I would have picked. He and the whole band here captured the essence perfectly. They didn't play it note for note like the original or even try to. What they did was to emote musical elements that are pure Allman Brothers and they did in a very reverent , loving way. I was moved. Great job by Chris and the band. Can you imagine playing this in front of Gregg Allman?? Thanks for posting this Kenny!

I saw a man in Jackson square New Orleans. He had an amp that was beat up pretty bad and an old guitar case. I asked if he could play some blues. He only nodded his head, he was very withdrawn. He removed a fender guitar from the old case, he plugged in his amp. This withdrawn man played whipping post and sang his heart out. I have never seen anything like this before or since. When I hear whipping post the tears flow , I can not help it. When I walk into any establishment and they have a hike box, whether I'm staying or not, I play whipping post. To the man in Jackson square, you gave me something I can never repay and something no one can ever take from me. I thank you . When the man finished that day in Jackson square, there must have been a hundred people gathered round him. My tears come because I feel his pain somehow. He did not just play and sing whipping post. At some point in his life this man had been tied to the whipping post.
