Just saw this movie and I love it. It is one of those where nothing happens and everything happens. I loved the little office conversations and the the other officesounds- water cooler, opening packages, silent elevator. It really captures how it feels to be in an environment like that- especially when you're young. So happy not to be there now

Those environments were toxic and unprofessional- because they could be; they had no accountability. I then switched to working in fields with little/no emotional attachment to the companies. I am so much happier and work on my interests on the side- since I now have the time and energy to do it!

Loved this movie. Really appreciated the simple yet powerful messages. What I appreciated the most is that with all the education she has, at the end of the day, on the job experiences let you down. Even when you’re trying to do the right thing.

I like this movie, I get why some people hate this movie for it being "too realistic", but I think that what makes this movie interesting and great. If you're looking for an action movie then this is not for you, if you're looking for a realistic, tense and intriguing story then this is for you.
Srsly, this is so typical. It looks good, tho. When I gave them my two weeks notice, they waited three days and then fired me. I worked for the president of the company who was a total narcissist, and he couldn't stand my "betrayal" and disloyalty by not wanting to work for his toxic ass any longer. The joke was on him though, because I went straight to the unemployment office and filed a claim, and he had to pay for my unemployment for the next six months (I got an extension on purpose, lol). If he had let me quit as I had originally done, he wouldn't have been responsible for paying my unemployment. But he'd never had anyone quit before and he didn't know the rules. Most people were too afraid to quit.
That scene with Matthew Macfadyen was masterclass acting. Aside from that, there's no much else I can say about this movie. It could've easily be condensed into a great 30/40 minute short film instead of dragging out for 80 minutes.
Why make a good film, when you can get awards for portraying men as (alleged) evil "manspaliners", who (of course) are not good in their jobs. It's ludicrous...

this movie was actually flawless. don't say that about too much i see these days. julia garner anchors with a razor-sharp lead performance but the supporting cast, esp. matthew macfadyen, is equally strong. the writing is pitched precisely and authentically, the production as a whole claustrophobic. also, the cinematography i found astoundingly good. overall it's not quite my favorite movie ever but i walked away from it thinking it was exactly everything it hoped itself to be simply due to the top of the line work from cast, crew, and creative team. i would recommend it to anyone.

Yes! Most trailers show the whole movie in 2 minutes. I remember being so mad when I went to see Something Borrowed, because I realized the kiss in the last two minutes of the movie was shown in the trailer. *SPOILER ALERT* -- It was more than sleeping with women. She (the assistant) thought a girl was very young. I don't know if the girl was under 18 but she was concerned that her boss was sleeping with a young, maybe underage girl, moving her from out of state, if I recall correctly, putting her up in a hotel and giving her a job at his company. Seems like it's something that happened often and was known amongst certain people in the company, including HR.

Just finished watching this movie on HBO and I was disappointed. I hung in there for 1 hour and 28 minutes, hoping it was actually going to go somewhere. When Jane goes to HR to report her suspicions about the pretty new girl at the hotel, dealings with HR during my secretarial career flooded back. Within the hour, her co-workers and her boss knew she had been to visit HR. As my daughter used to tell me, who worked in HR, "HR is not your friend." That was a great takeaway for anyone who doesn't know that yet. As for Jane I was hoping she would take a stand and quit. But the reality is, she needs a job. She has goals. So she has to learn how to take it, absorb how things really are, blend in, assimilate, and as my friend Janie, a secretary to executives, used to tell me, "See it and don't see it."
This movie was amazing, I'm pretty sure not all the people are going to like it, but for someone like me, this movie was kind of my life, it really reminded me with my old job with a telecom company, not that the boss was fooling around like in this movie, but the whole stress you get when you work on such company. The way other teammates treat you at first (with their inside joks), The way they dress with their fancy cloths, The way they through the ugly work on you The way they help you out against the big wolf, The way the boss treats you like shit and makes your life miserable in a way that you start to hate your life and you feel you are not worthy, The way every single call from him is like a warning call like your life depends on it if you don't answer the correct answer and please his ego you get the threat of being expelled, The way they force you to lie and be the bad person, The way that they make you feel you need to do better since you are not doing enough. The way sometimes you have to act like a bad person. The way that you have to carry the company secrets and everything wrong with it. The way you have to do works that has nothing to do with your real job like cleaning or working other extra works, The way that you can't fix whats going on and there is no HR to rely into or to complain to, HR is just a mask for the company. The way that the boss has no life so he expect you give up on your life too with long hour on the office. The way you lie to your family and pretend your job is good. The long hours and anxiety all the time with no time left to live your life. you can't even enjoy life anymore or eat property, every single day is the same. You dream was to to change the life and make it better but at the end you find out that the life changed and you become just like any other sad person in the world. So I Quit my job, I oppose to work during weekend and after working hours. whats the point of having money and buying 55" TV if you can't enjoy watching a movie and have not time for it? a lot of people get sucked into their job and lose the real goal which is living your life. now I make less than x5 times than what I used too but at least now I can live my own life and leave the stress behind. it was one of the best decision I've ever made. The amazing thing about this movie, it captured all above points without mentioning it.

*SPOILER ALERT* -- It was more than sleeping with women. She (the assistant) thought a girl was very young. I don't know if the girl was under 18 but she was concerned that her boss was sleeping with a young, maybe underage girl, moving her from out of state, if I recall correctly, putting her up in a hotel and giving her a job at his company. Seems like it's something that happened often and was known amongst certain people in the company, including HR.

This feels like an indie horror game and I love it
It was a slow movie, slice of life, literally. But when stuff like this happens, you don't always get fireworks and drama, you have to make decisions and live life. Nice change of pace moviewise.

Just finished watching this movie on HBO and I was disappointed. I hung in there for 1 hour and 28 minutes, hoping it was actually going to go somewhere. When Jane goes to HR to report her suspicions about the pretty new girl at the hotel, dealings with HR during my secretarial career flooded back. Within the hour, her co-workers and her boss knew she had been to visit HR. As my daughter used to tell me, who worked in HR, "HR is not your friend." That was a great takeaway for anyone who doesn't know that yet. As for Jane I was hoping she would take a stand and quit. But the reality is, she needs a job. She has goals. So she has to learn how to take it, absorb how things really are, blend in, assimilate, and as my friend Janie, a secretary to executives, used to tell me, "See it and don't see it."

I could stare at Julia Garner all the time. So slim and pretty. I love her hair and her face. I was intrigued with her on Ozark.
This movie was amazing, I'm pretty sure not all the people are going to like it, but for someone like me, this movie was kind of my life, it really reminded me with my old job with a telecom company, not that the boss was fooling around like in this movie, but the whole stress you get when you work on such company.
The way other teammates treat you at first (with their inside joks),
The way they dress with their fancy cloths,
The way they through the ugly work on you
The way they help you out against the big wolf,
The way the boss treats you like shit and makes your life miserable in a way that you start to hate your life and you feel you are not worthy,
The way every single call from him is like a warning call like your life depends on it if you don't answer the correct answer and please his ego you get the threat of being expelled,
The way they force you to lie and be the bad person,
The way that they make you feel you need to do better since you are not doing enough.
The way sometimes you have to act like a bad person.
The way that you have to carry the company secrets and everything wrong with it.
The way you have to do works that has nothing to do with your real job like cleaning or working other extra works,
The way that you can't fix whats going on and there is no HR to rely into or to complain to, HR is just a mask for the company.
The way that the boss has no life so he expect you give up on your life too with long hour on the office.
The way you lie to your family and pretend your job is good.
The long hours and anxiety all the time with no time left to live your life. you can't even enjoy life anymore or eat property, every single day is the same.
You dream was to to change the life and make it better but at the end you find out that the life changed and you become just like any other sad person in the world.
So I Quit my job, I oppose to work during weekend and after working hours. whats the point of having money and buying 55" TV if you can't enjoy watching a movie and have not time for it? a lot of people get sucked into their job and lose the real goal which is living your life. now I make less than x5 times than what I used too but at least now I can live my own life and leave the stress behind. it was one of the best decision I've ever made.
The amazing thing about this movie, it captured all above points without mentioning it.

@@DG-vn9sl I work as an indie dev making video games :) no one had faith in me when I took my decision, how someone will walk from a job that has a nice income to something that makes less income, but it's my life, and I had faith in me that my new job will make me happy and it did. if it didn't, I would've found another job. keeping your current sad job is the worst thing in life since times wait for no one. you only live this life once.
