I remember DDT being sprayed in play grounds with fogger trucks while we were playing ball in the early 60s. It wasn't reported as a problem until 1968 when American eagle populations were declining due to DDT. Then it was still used in household pesticides until 1972. The chemical companies fought the FDA and and lost in 1974.

I read somewhere that dried ice could help take care of a bed bug infestation.

Few people in the Western world today have ever seen a bedbug or a louse. Yet for our grandparents and great-grandparents, they were a constant threat. I read once that--prior to the development of DDT---over 90% of homes in the U.S. experienced a bedbug or lice infestation at one time or another. The extermination of household pests was one of the great triumphs brought about by DDT. It saved immediate post-WWII Europe from massive typhus epidemics.

Wrong, there was a massive bed bug out break in NY some years ago. Wrong again DDT didn’t save anyone.

DDT was responsible for much of the sickness, paralysis, and death that was blamed on Poliomyelitis.

Pyrethroids took its place. The Baygon and the Raid, or the Mortein you use contain pyrethroids.

So ineffective to leave ppls clothing unsterilized you know bed bugs got in there. I recall my father as a little girl going around the outside base if our house with a jug of kerosene. Its a wonder we didnt go up in flames.

What attracts cockroaches? Three things: Moisture, Sugars and Starch.

I heard DDT completely wiped out bedbug problems up until a return of them recently (who are DDT resistant now)

@@joelrose8514 Do you ever wonder where we would be in the world without the insect world. There would be no birds, no bees , no food! Have you noticed there are fewer insects now? this is decimating the bird population already. Think on that!
