It really is. I'm a licensed pest control operator, and although technology has advanced A LOT, the basic idea of sanitation & exclusion still applies. Really cool to see the "old school" guys using similar tactics to what we use in the field today.

The government stopped doing anything that helped poor people in the 1960s. Rich people demanded that it be stopped because rich people don't have to worry about rats and mice. When I was a kid a health department van went door to door checking kids for worms and giving polio vaccinations. That is how they eradicated polio and worms, now kids are getting worms again and I would not doubt that polio makes a comeback too. The rich people have used propaganda to get the poor to kill themselves through ignorance.
@@dr666demento I visited Atlanta in 2017 (and, the airport, 100 times before then, like most folks.) My AAA guide said that Five Points was touristy, so I visited there. It's LITTLE Five Points(!) Five Points is a slum full of bums. I went into the little underground mall near a hotel at nightfall and there were rats Everywhere!!
3:00 and 3:17 - I thought metals are rat-proof. Soft metals like this thick aluminum alloy (aluminum is a soft metal) can be penetrated within 11 nights to 170 nights by a rat.
Back then for a rat to get into a house, or to chew through anything, it probably chewed through a lot of asbestos. Tile, insulation, siding, glue, roofing paper, all had asbestos before the 80s and 70s.
THIS IS WHY YPU NEED TO HAVE A VERY, VETY CLEAN HOUSE WITH NO TRADH NO CRUMS NO CAT FOPD OUT AND PUT AN EXTRA SEAL UNDER YOUR DOOR I SPRAY AMONIA IN EVERY CORNER OF MY APARTMENT AND HAVE 10 BOWLS OF AMONIA IN EVERY CORNER
3:01 well that rat died didnt he!... these measurements are stupid!!! 1/4 inch!, 3/8 inch!, .091 inch!...really... 3/16 inch.. LOL , no wonder Nasa use centimeters and meters to calculate and make things!, the metric system is so much supirior!.
Once a mouse rode into my home on a window A/C unit. I didn't know until the next morning when I found it dead on the kitchen floor. My fluffy black female kitty had killed it. I petted and praised her, and am still proud of her. Cats are born hunters.
GET A CAT, dead rats in seconds a cat can hear them gnawing and Boom they sit just waiting, AND its good for them to eat it's what they are meant to eat. There are places that farm & sell rats for many reasons, OMG a big fat rice rat is yummy the meat is delicate and so sweet shame you have to have at least 6-10 for a proper rice rat curry, OR if you are lucky to catch some Cuwy rice paddy guinea pigs just need a couple of them to make a nice meal they taste even sweeter meatier & juicy...you can eat the bugs lowest I go to eat are rodents
Even though this is 65yrs old, it's still very informative and useful.

Such honesty and integrity back not all that long ago..... Just think how scary it will become in 30 years from now 🤔😳
People are getting smarter... History is a lie
The unanswered answer is CAT, lots and lots of CATS. No rodent dares come into MY house.... 🐅🐭💥
They're good for mice, but a rat terrier is a better match for a rat.
@@drpoundsign not all CATS are mousers -- unfortunately!
great video I loved watching this 👍

I thought this was very good to know ! and this stuff will still work now !
"Island theory" @15:18 yup!
Love how they said back in those days the man 😂

that rat must have gotten so much cancer

@@JonasC22 They don't LIVE long enough-LOL. It's the humans that would get asbestosis and cancer from all the fibers the rat left behind.
The most effective means of controlling rodents is a cat.

Damn those rats got through the asbestos too bad they won't get through their already short life lol

Get a cat!

gene drives.
Shout out to citizens who want rats as pets! Not too smart, as rats carry disease.
Isn't there a video about pet rats that you need to go shit in? Are you truly reduced to trolling the comments under old government documentaries?
Pet rats are purged of parasites. They are friendly and intelligent. Wild rats are diseased and vicious in captivity
