Sad to see comments regarding paid reviews. We have NEVER EVER taken a pound to give a score. Any paid work we do will have #AD on it as per guidelines. We have to do it occasionally to fund the travel & free to view content we try and invest so heavily in.
If you want me to go into more details on this review. The fish was really really bad. It wasn’t down to my vinegar or anything else. The batter mix was too thick, bread like, and the oil probably wasn’t hot enough. On top of that it wasn’t cooked fresh and was sweating in a box under the heat for god knows how long. The only reason we went was we drive past and though we would give them a go.
95% of our work is postitve. That’s how we like it. Intent to uncover good places and “be nice”… however when you get something sub standard I have to be honest. Please don’t mistake our intent for paid or underhand work. That is not the case.

You can tell that fish was bought frozen and has been defrosted in water, its completely waterlogged, steer well clear of that.
Have u ever put water in a fryer ?? I think thier just cheap frozen fish not soaked in litrely water

Fair review the fish did look awful.
I’ve lived in Leicester my whole life. There’s a massive turnover with restaurants and takeaways. So much choice and insane competition. It’s best to try places that have either newly opened or always busy. Usually after a year, the quality takes a nose-dive in my opinion. 👍

He was trying to keep a straight face . He knew the food was rank but he had to give some sort of decent review .. curry sauce is pre made from packets so the flavour is all the same . Chips can be soggy or dry . The Donner can be greasy or dry but always taste the same . Sometimes it's like chewing rubber . This is the same in all kebab shops . Kebab shops use frozen fish from packets !!!!. Fresh fish is costly but taste better !!!

Halal should be banned, RSPCA agrees it is cruel.
Yh and electrocuting animals isn't right? Or putting animals in a blender isn't 2 right? Halal isn't cruel. Research from universities such as university of miami proved that an animal instantly died without any pain by cutting through throat rather and then electrocution which the animal suffered more then 15 secs before dying. And this is an official research.
leicester is a crap place for food, high prices and small portions - thats the gujrati places in my opinion - avoid.

Scripture says not to eat anything sacrificed to idols.
However, the modern Orthodox understanding is to make the sign of the cross on oneself and cross the food also.

Should of gone to Picnic kebab House on Evington Road. It's been there 35 years and is amazing
Have to say I avoid places that do everything would much rather they specialize in one type of food jack of all trades so to speak.
Chippers here have tended to get increasingly large menus over the years. It sometimes works if they're long established and are just adding more things over the years, rather than starting out with a large menu. They still need to get the most basic thing that's on their signage correct.
We use a sort of inverse rating for those places, going from 0 being great, to 10 being terrible, but that's in relation to how many pints of guinness would need before order from them.
These are the kind of reviews I've missed from you Matt, off the cuff and eating the kind of food people eat every day. More of this please!

Im from and live in Leicester, i can tell you, this is probably one of the worst areas to get fish and chips, more of a curry area...no disrespect just being honest...should of of gone to grimsby fish and chips on welford rd....thats a propper chip shop

100% agree with this youtubers review of the fish & chips.
Decided to buy few portions of fish & chips before heading back to London, first & foremost was gob smacked at the £13+ price.
2ndly was amazed that it was served immediately, obviously pre cooked!
The chips were ok BUT the fish is one of the worst ive had, coating was very oily & had no taste and yes was sticking to the paper it was served in.
Absolute thumbs down for their fish & chips - wish we had gone elsewhere given how much we spent!
I just paid 16 pounds in Portsmouth for very disappointing cod and chipsor haddock and chips.
No skin on the fish so half the flavour gone already , thin tasteless fish. I could not even tell it was cod look very yellow in colour.
chips had hard edges amd were dry inside not very warm at all but not greasy.

Good honesty review of fish and chips irrespective of who sold it. The guys have shown the dreadful fish batter and the curry sauce should be better.

I’m from Leicester but you’ve not chosen well today re venues. What a shame. Welford Rd chip shop is well known but you won’t like the batter. The jewel of the crown is in a village called Cosby, 8 miles from the centre. Batter out of this world.

The fish doesn't require it. It's from the sea and is permissible . Only for certain livestock . The wording on the takeaways maybe for the rest of the food (Donner/meat pizza's etc).
While in leicester you have got to review a curry. Was good to see a review that wasn’t a promotion. It’s been a while but we all got to pay the bills
Probably The Kayal on Granby street, its in a disgusting part of the centre (well ok, a slightly more disgusting part of it😬) but being a South Indian Keralan seafood restaurant the foods excellent and totally different from the usual balti and chicken tikka masala dross.

As a British born Greek cypriot I can genuinely say I know my fish and chips due to my family having over 25 chippys in Birmingham and that's why I really appreciate watching your fish and chip reviews 😉💯👍

The owner used to be very nice, but they are now unpolite and looks like they do not like requests. The chips are not cooked properly so have stopped using them for a while now. Everyone to their own.............
