Very evocative! Tells a wonderful story. So clear, here the classical sonata form really comes to its own. A definitive performance. I feel as if I know a new aspect of Beethoven.
Si , es cierto , parece un otro Beethoven que conoce todos los secretos y que no siempre es tan absoluto ... y puede ser más liviano ' y seguir siendo único
Team Beethoven, here. Great composer. He is part of the group of composers with "something to say", not a bunch of formulas and mathematical harmonies. And Schiff is sensible as a kid, but eyes and fingers of a tiger.
@@heinzgilbert I'm taking the risk of offending some people here... but Bach, Haydn, Brahms, Scriabin, etc, are good examples. Of course, their music has mathematical elements, but its not just that. Otherwise, I think Mozart is a genius at some aspects, but I don't like his music so much. Maybe too shallow, template music... (🏃). But its just my personal taste here. Late Mozart is very good. Symphonies 40 and 41 are pure gems
It's the first time I’ve listened to a pianist play this sonata using the Barry Cooper edition (just check out the third movement). However, I don’t understand why he skipped the full chords in the right hand in bars 32, 33, 124, and 125 of the first movement.
Maybe he didn't have enough preparation (this might be a last-minute request), those parts are the most technical part of this sonata, and I could not even count how many hours I have spent drilling on those measures alone.
After the super slowly played introduction by Barenboim, Schiff's version sounds sooo fast ! Then the 1st movement too slow (compared to other versions).. Interesting though.
what a strange performance! - so much slower than most, where's the ebullient excitement at the return of a dear friend? the tempo marking is Vivacissimo .., this is like allegretto - - very eccentric, and it doesn't work
no, but unblock your ears at the karcher. what wrong notes and when? it is an exceptional interpretation light years away from other pianists. And even if we don't care about wrong notes!!! He's a human being, not a computer.
I think he plays the sonata rather well. Problem is the sonata itself. It is a transitional work, in whìch many of Beethoven's later style and textures don't quite come off. In that sense, Op 90 is much better, and the mature late Beethoven is finally with us in Op 101.
I wish Beethoven could have heard this performance. Such joy, so uplifting.
Maestro’s cantabile is absolutely superb🎶
What a marvelous performance by such a master
Magnificent! We adore you dear Maestro Schiff!❤❤❤
This sonata delivers story the best out of all of beethovens sonatas
Probably one of the most delightfull of them. Schiff's Hammerklavier playing is groundbreaking - "like a god playing with rocks", as he says.

@@Ainzleeriddell tf is a "piano academy dude"
So many different feelings in one performance

Can you tell me which composers are part of "bunch of formulas and mathematical harmonies"? Is it Bach and Mozart?

I want to play this sonata too. 🙂
Beethoven und Schiff.... Schwerstgewichte!
Andras, alles Gute zum 70. Geburtstag ‼️😘🥰
Now thinking ahead…I wonder if Sir Schiff András has considered recording this on a Beethoven era type instrument? It would be intriguing to compare!
It would be really thrilling! May I suggest you Schiff’s recording of Beethoven bagatelles on LVB own Broadwood fortepiano!🎶
@@musikalischesopfer yes, thanks! It is great!
What happens when you play too much Bach : 1:28
Bro just skipped the best part ahahaha

Love his playing, but yeah, still feels too slow for my ears...maybe because of my mom's old Gulda set, hear till this day

Bad performance, unfortunately. So many wrong notes(( Not the best day for Maestro Schiff
