Brilliant video Jay, tells me exactly what I need to know plus a few other useful things which I didn't know about - and, as a musician, I love your introductory music too. Thanks very much indeed.
Thanks Laurie, that's great to hear. I love the music too, I discovered it as part of the Camtasia 7 assets many years ago. I don't recall what the track was called, but it immediately spoke to me. Have fun with DAZ Studio!
Production tip: If your video software allows it, use the Zoom feature so that viewers can read what's on your screen. Many people, like myself, may be using a laptop/tablet so things won't be as clear like they are on a desktop monitor. For websites, use fullscreen on your browser and kick up the zoom a notch or two.
This was a very helpful and straightforward video. The last version of DS I upgraded to was 4.8 because 4.9 was when they pulled the folder highlights from the 'scan for new content' function. Even with 4.10 there just doesn't seem to be an easy way to locate new files among hundreds of thousands in a runtime, without looking up the file structure of the zip file hunh? Disappointing.
Sadly not, at least not to my knowledge. It's irritating when developers take perfectly good functions away for "political reasons". I guess they'd like us to use Smart Content exclusively.
Is the "My DAZ 3D Library" folder location automatically defined by the program installation? Or do you create a new folder named as such? (I intend to install DAZ3D on d: drive to avoid cluttering up the c: drive)
The default folder is defined automatically on the C drive. But once installed, you can define a second folder on another drive, both in DAZ Studio and in Install Manager. Once defined, you can choose that folder to install content. I've made a video about that here: ua-cam.com/video/t8eiIhiSAcs/v-deo.html
i'm trying to figure out where do you get the models from and how do you do the downloading because its not working for me, and whats the website of where you get the models from called?
There are several marketplaces for DAZ content: daz3d.com is their own store, there’s also Renderosity.com, hivewire3d.com and several others including free sites. Installation depends on how files are distributed. I have several videos on how to do this, and I’m going through content installation in this series: ua-cam.com/play/PLPcx_LSSGfZeCEvFO0spfYc3DzjpJyIzY.html
Great video, so I was doing it right. But, I'm a beginner to Daz. So, I'm getting my downloaded content into Daz but it's now connecting to my models too well... They clothing will show their skin, or not maintain their poses or something funky. Any advice or tips? Thanks!
Hi Rolly, yes indeed - sometimes DAZ Studio doesn't want to play. Could be that the clothing isn't fitted to the character, but only loaded into the same scene. With the item of clothing selected, try selecting "Fit To", then choose the character. You get there by either right-clicking on your clothing, or by selecting the clothing first and then heading over to the Parameters Tab (under Misc).
Yeah, that's how I was fitting the clothes but it still shows their figure patching through the clothing. learned that, if it doesn't have Fix Settings then it won't work unless I fix it manually. I've never made models before... Also, sorry that last comment. iPhones suck.
Interesting... and it's still giving you trouble? Is the clothing you're fitting made for that particular character, or are you using auto-fit (i.e. clothing is made for another character)? Something else you can try: in the Parameter Tab under Mesh Smoothing, there's a setting for Smoothing and Collision Iterations. You can set those values a bit higher, which makes DAZ Studio work harder (watch the small progress at the bottom right). It may remove one of the poke through you're getting.
Yep, they're just some clothes I found on OptiTex (www.optitex-dynamiccloth.com/FreebieDownload01.php) I believe it was designed for Victoria 4? Here's a list of freebies: www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/478/list-of-freebie-websites
Ah, therein lies the problem: those are dynamic clothing files, not conforming ones! The difference is that conforming clothing can be fitted with DAZ Studio out of the box, but they never had an option for dynamic clothing without a plugin. Until DAZ Studio 4.10 came out recently, which now supports dForce. Although dForce is made for dynamic clothing, the Optitex outfits are not compatible with it. I guess that's why you're getting a problem there. OPtitex was an older separate plugin for DAZ Studio, I don't think it's available or compatible anymore (I have no experience with it myself I'm afraid).
It depends on how the product files are delivered, but generally they follow the same pattern. Some scripts are delivered as a single file, so you may have to navigate deep into your content library folder and add them to the existing scripts folder. Content from DAZ usually installs with the Install Manager. For ZIP style content, there's a tool you can get to turn ZIP content into installable files. DreamLab has a video on this: ua-cam.com/video/estHdAfC-L8/v-deo.html
Hi Sean, not within DAZ Studio, not that I know of at least. When I work on content I want to protect or keep separate from my "main library", I create a completely new library folder. In it I then have the runtime structure to put textures and geometry on the correct locations, and at the end of the process, I ZIP up the whole folder. That ZIP can then be installed by others into their library. I've just uploaded a video that explains how to deal with multiple libraries in Install Manager and DAZ Studio - might come in handy: ua-cam.com/video/t8eiIhiSAcs/v-deo.html
I've always been confused on what to do with the manifest.dsx and supplement.dsx files when I copy from the .zip into my Daz3D library. Because every time I copy a new .zip bundle to my library it writes over the manifest.dsx and the supplement.dsx files. How do I install those two files correctly?
As far as I know, those manifest files are only used by Install Manager to track which files go where. It uses this information to populate the meta data for Smart Content, and I wager that it allows Install Manager to uninstall content with the information in those files. Strictly speaking, they're not necessary for the content to work via the Content Library tab. When you install content the old fashioned way, you can discard them.
The current release is 4.10, with 4.11 just around the corner. Could it be that you have 4.10 instead? 4.1 would have been a release from several years ago.
DIM is definitely the best - only two times I had to install it from inside DAZ. I have a question though - Say If I want to download a content from Renderosity store And I want the files to go directly in the smart content - is that possible?
Could you show tutorials about Daz Studio and Zbrush? Mostly about using Zbrush to create content for, or modifying content from Daz Studio, but anything, really. UA-cam videos on this are either years out of date or not very professional.
Pass I’m afraid. If you’re sure you’re logged in to the correct account, and nothing is typed in the search bar, I’d get in touch with DAZ and ask them for help.
I tried this and still couldn't import a ZIP file. The screen is blurry, my studio interface looks different, and every video I've seen on this issue is confusing and contradictory.
I agree that installing third party content can be an exercise in frustration. Sometimes it’s as easy as extracting the ZIP, other times it just doesn’t work. To troubleshoot what’s gone wrong where you need to (almost) be a software engineer. Sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you.
That is indeed odd. I have DAZ Studio running on 8 machines (Macs and PCs) and I've never had this problem. DIM has always behaved as it should, showing content in DAZ Studio as soon as a product is finished installing.
Hello, Im looking to add the content it comes with it seems like when I go to put something on a figure, Its there but whenever i click it nothing happens or it gives me a file error, can someone help a fellow traveler out?
@The WP Guru Hello thank you for your reply, I think I downloaded everything, but as far as any other steps no, I seen another video where the guy said I have to go into my files and copy and paste it somewhere but he lost me half way into the video
That means some references geometry files are not installed correctly. Make sure to follow the vendors instructions, sometimes content comes as multiple packages and require different procedures. Also, make sure to map your content directories both as DAZ and Poser directories under Content Management. Some geometries are installed in the Poser directories, and DAZ Studio can’t see them h less they’re mapped also.
Well I installed the program today and just deleted it after I saw that video! I mean how stupid can a program be build? DAZ seems to be for people that have way to much time…I´m out before I get in!
That's odd. Are you logged in with the correct credentials? Are you working in online mode? That's all I can think of. Get in touch with DAZ if all else fails.
12:40 何日も試行錯誤しても解決できなかった問題が、お陰様で解決できました。ありがとうございます。
3Dコンテンツは確かに難しいです。これが役に立ったことをうれしく思います!
Very nicely done. The most complete instructions I have seen on installing content. thanks for the great work.

This program is an over complicated mess. Makes me appreciate Cinema 4D more every time I use it.
an 18 minute video to install and open a character file
Yo for real
Yeah, if they made the process simpler, a shorter video would indeed suffice. But with DAZ, nothing is simple 😂
Thank you so much. This helps. Your videos are amazing!
Thank you so much...your video did alot help to me. :D
Now i know were are my installed items, found them in content lib. tab Was not in file content, thanks for the nice and very usefull video :)

Man I cant still get any of the "data/documentation/people/runtime files to do anything when I place them in the correct directories from zip.
Same here! I copied everything correctly. But I still can't find it in the content library! :(
