People saying he is misleading: I was afraid to make games too, despite having decent experience in Web Dev and Blockchain and general programming (Python, C++, Java and all). I was as scared as I was in high school. Except day before yesterday I took the plunge. Already set up my first level by just following UA-cam tutorials.
You will never be worse at something than you are today. Being great is just being a little better than good, being good is just a little better than okay, okay is just a little better than poor, poor is just a little better than bad, bad is just a little better than awful. Take small bites and the mountain won't look so huge. Don't set out to get good at pixel art for example and think, "I wanna get as good as that guy." Think, "I'm gonna sit down tonight and draw a little cup. Maybe if I feel like continuing I'll draw a little table." Keep thinking a tiny step forward and before you know it, you'll wonder how you got to be able to draw so many cool things. I'm learning Japanese, and I can hold prolonged conversations now in broken Japanese. Do you know how it started? I didn't wake up one day and think, "I want to learn Japanese," and then work like a dog for months or years at that monolith of a goal. One night I just decided on a whim to look up basic Japanese characters and learn a couple simple ones. After that night I knew those characters. It was fun, so I kept going and learning a couple more things. And you know what? I'll never be worse at Japanese than I am today. The only way I can go is up.
To me, the teleport mechanic looks like you’re cloning the character, adjusting it’s visibility, and tweening it’s X position forward while maintaining the player’s Y position, and if the player finishes their action, it moves the player to the temporary ghost’s location. Am I getting that right or do you have a different process that I’m just not getting?
Yes, you're totally right! I'm also using some raycasts to check if the character would teleport into the map (which doesn't work correctly all the time)
Ric good to hear. Unless you’re not planning to continue working on it, just keep at it, or possibly make a creative use for that very issue, might introduce some interesting gameplay possibilities.
@@Ric_93 I don't know if this game involves using the mouse, but if it does then you might have the teleport go towards the direction of the mouse to add some greater control over it.

I wish I was only consistent as you. I try for a small time and then leave it and come back again after few months. This makes the process even more demotivating and I wasted 2 years like this. :(
Maybe your goals are too overwhelming. Instead of thinking, "I'm gonna make a game," sit down and write a bunch of little things your game idea needs right now, achievable stuff you could do in a few minutes to an hour. Add a function to your code to do something useful. Fix one little bug that's been bothering you. Write a little brainstorming about one location or character. Slowly build a big outline of the game's overall areas that need development, the tasks you need to finish to get those done, then within the tasks, sub-tasks and sub-tasks, small enough that you could do several in an evening. Then, when you decide to work on your game, you can commit to just one of those little tiny bits, and when you start, you may find you get carried away working on it, or you might stop after one, or stop in the middle of one, doesn't matter. Point is, you did something, and your project is more complete than it was before you sat down. Build successes and you'll gain momentum and likely want to work on it more.

When did you actually started learning? This seems kinda misleading, as it seems you started working on this game 2 months ago. But before that you did a bunch of courses, lessons and a lot of practicing. So, how long in reality?
to be honest man, all that he did, for now, old developers (at least 1 year and with programming experience) do in a week or 2, if work on it 2-3 hours a day, there is only movement, jump, Ora and TP, ah yeah and camera movement. That things that a dev who did games before know how to make fast and not in 2 months so yes he is absolutely new, but he have a lot of motivation and that a reason for his game to progres
He didn't start learning programming 2 months ago. He started learning game development 2 months ago. That's very different. I'd say you need at least a year of learning before you start doing something bigger. Tetris, Snake or some other arcade game is one thing. They are relatively simple. An adventure game like this requires more knowledge. Although Unity does a lot for you, which is useful.
@@CottidaeSEA Using a game engine definitely speeds up the process, of course. In this case, he used Godot, but I think that for beginners, the best thing is to try to first create simple games, such as snake game, tic tac toe, pong, tetris, using HTML5 and Javascript, so that you have some basic understanding of some things beforehand, such as game loops, event handling and file management, and have a better evaluation on what to expect from game engines overall. Then, trying out Godot or pretty much any Game Engine to expand even more your view of stuff. (I mentioned godot basically because it has probably the lowest barrier to enter, not only with price, but also on friendly UI and mechanics, aswell as low file sizes).

Great work and art. I feel that you should expand on the elements you have by modifying the structures a bit and using more color variations in your assets overall. You have it all there.
Yeah I remember doing these type of games back in 2007 or so, when I was literally 12 or 13 years old. Back then there were programs where you could do them really easily. But I get the hype. I had it too. And it is more fulfilling knowing how to actually do this from scratch then using a program that is already programmed to do z game.
This was super interesting to watch! It's really impressive to see what you were able to do with only 2 months of game development. it's super inspiring!

When did you actually started learning? This seems kinda misleading, as it seems you started working on this game 2 months ago. But before that you did a bunch of courses, lessons and a lot of practicing. So, how long in reality?
Probably like 1-2 years
@@matusgerbiark3622 no this really seems like a beginner, i think this is his first game
to be honest man, all that he did, for now, old developers (at least 1 year and with programming experience) do in a week or 2, if work on it 2-3 hours a day, there is only movement, jump, Ora and TP, ah yeah and camera movement.
What a great job. Thank you for sharing your experience.
UA-cam recommended me your channel! :P subbed!

Damn I bought the Godot and Pixel art course on udemy an year ago. I just wanna make a game for myself. Like a bucket list. But lacked motivation. This video gave a boost to my interest. Even i wanna make an rpg. Either i make it or move on like the general audience. But all the best to you. :))
Out of the udemy courses that you listed, which ones did you actually complete / find the most useful?
Hello! For which skill? I took courses for programming and pixel art
@@Ric_93Which one(s) would you recommend most for both? :)
Cant wait to play this game!
What laptop you use to work
I'm using a Dell G5 ( I recently got a new PC, so it's not the one shown in this video!)
Love the art u inspired me to continue trying to get better at art
Godot is a good game engine
Very good! I'm very happy with it
Ciao Riccardo, ottimo video!
Hey man, hit me up if you need some music for your game! really cool stuff.
This was super interesting to watch! It's really impressive to see what you were able to do with only 2 months of game development. it's super inspiring!
Ahh Hollow knight, the game of inspiration but also one that can shatter your dreams with its nail...
Such a good game
you're an inspiration
Thank you so much for your kind words Ethan! Have a great day 🙌🏻
