    Awesome video. I have been harvesting millipede poo for over 20 years. Ever since I built my first house. I also discovered it by accident. I have never been big on raking anything that I mow so everything that falls on to cement slabs ends up as millipede poo. Once poo it is easily swept. I noticed that wood and coconut husks left on the ground attract millipedes, centipedes, and earthworms so I used them for my plants. Once a year we have a season here in Puerto Rico where there are so many that they come inside the house and have to be swept once or twice a day. Fat palm tree trunks also attract millipede, centipede, and huge black beetle larva that also make excellent poo. It is nice that you did the lab work and found all that great information. A great place to find tons of this poo is in abandoned basketball or tennis courts. They are big cement slabs that accumulate leaves and organic matter if left unchecked. In the tropics we build with cement so every abandoned house with a driveway has great millipoo on it.

    First of all, know this guy hes interviewing. He is SO FREAKIN SMART. He came into my work and I got to interview him for my bosses garden center in Arizona. Gardeners just don’t know enough about millipede poo, I didn’t know enough about it. Now I’m obsessed and am constantly trying to do research. This was a great video!:) and that dude is super inspiring, he makes me want to work super hard to know everything he knows.

    Great stuff. We've got loads of millipedes in the UK but didn't realise just how good they are for fungi.
    One note, according to the royal horticultural society website, millipedes mandibles are soft so won't generally harm plants but they can cause damage on areas already attacked by slugs and snails so probably best to get rid of them before adding millipedes.

      Couldn't resist picking up a small order of this stuff. The usual super fast shipping from Boogie Brew! :) It's very nice looking, coffee grounds consistency, but a little finer than regular worm castings. I will be trying it out in some potting mixes soon. I have two citrus trees that need repotting before coming inside this fall and that would be one good test for it.

    I have an urgent question please please reply :( I have 2 pepper plants that I transplanted into bigger pots. I used the soil from the old pots, and then added soil from a big one my mom had sitting out front just to find out she sprayed spectracide baracade bug spray on it about a month ago. The plants got watered earlier after the transplant. Are they doomed? It just happened to be the best looking plants I have :(

    Can you translate the technical talk about balances of bacteria and fungi, etc., into take-away information for the average gardener who doesn't know all the scientific jargon that your guest kept using and who doesn't have a degree in biochemistry?
    We need a bottom line: 'If you are growing lemon trees, you will get better results mulching with wood chips and sprinkling millipoo on top of the wood chips.' Take a cue from Madison Avenue and give us a reason to go online and buy the stuff NOW. After 1/2 hour I have the feeling, 'These expert guys say this is really good' but it's all in a context of complicated discussion of bacteria and fungi and ratios and teas and worm castings, etc.
    Should I use the stuff or not, on the plants that I've got growing, at this time of year for the results that I want to get in my garden? I have no idea after 30 minutes.
    That's why people listening to this will be more likely to go to Home Depot and ask the teenager working there, 'What can I put on my [name of plants] to help them at this time of year when I want them to perform this way?' and then buy whatever bag or box of stuff the teenager tells them will help.

      I heard a lecture from Dr Elaine Ingham. She told us that there is a spectrum. If you have weeds, grow brassicas in the first year. As you move away from bacteria to fungal dominance, your requirements become more difficult to meet. This product is off the charts for fungal dominance. Just compost with material from the soil you want. That should be good enough. This is one of her best lectures. She gave it at Oxford.

      Add Millipoo at about 30 % of any decent compost tea recipe and use at one month intervals. Or scratch in a mild dusting around the stalks of your plants. It has a TON of shiny bits in it which we believe to be a super bio-available form of silicon, (the millipedes are digesting tropical hardwood grown in SAND & munching plenty of sand bits too -therefore predigesting the silica content maybe?). In any case, the results so far seem to show extreme hardiness imparted to the plants treated with Millipoo. Hope that helps!

      mewendy1 millipedes eat the fungi off of the wood and then poo it out

    • @mewendy1
      @mewendy1 5 років тому +1

      charlie burgess thank u for ur reply. So, they're not actually making the hypha, but the fungus that will make it. I confuse hypha with mycelium. I guess it's the precuser. If I see a lot of mycelium in my garden, does that mean I should just stick with vermicompost ? (which I already have)

    • @mewendy1
      @mewendy1 5 років тому +1

      charlie burgess the reason I'm asking about is because I already do a worm bin & am growing soldier fly larve (for my hens), & am thinking about doing mealy worms. That's on top of compost pile, don't know how much more time & effort I have left for another project. Wonder if it'd be less work to just cultivate king stropheria mushrooms in the beds

    • @BoogieBrew

      It sounds like you are doing A LOT of very masterful production techniques. Sigh, if ONLY more folks could engage in such beneficial practices, the planet and our soils would all be healthier.....If you start an arthropod casting pile, it will only help what is probably already one of the BEST soil eco-systems being farmed anywhere! Great work, keep it up.
