Both legendary and masterpiece albums. *RIP Hanneman & Menza*
I agree to great guys
And RIP Megadeth from that point too, CTE was a good hard rock album but they never even looked like approaching the heights of RIP again...
@@mikerauter1859 the closest to the rip era (in my opinion) is Dystopia, I mean Kiko's solos on that album are really good and Chris Adler gave life to the drums of megadeth again (not that Shawn was a bad drummer, but besides a few songs like kingmaker or sudden death, he sounded like a drum program or a souless robot in the albums he's in)
@@brunomunoz467 completely agree. When Chris left LOG he would have been the obvious choice, but not to be.
Absolutely agreed. Correct. 👍🙏🤘
Master pieces in each their own way. RIP is my favorite though. Mustaine wrote something that will never be replicated.
Not just that album. I like 'system has failed' and 'countdown to extinction' a lot too. Some of their best songs are on there. I'm a huge Megadeth fan, so consider me biased. But I genuinely think they've made some of the best metal.
@@PHeMoX don't forget youthanasia and peace sells!
@@ladev91 yeah.. Youthanasia is underrated. I don't know why nobody is talking about that album..The Killing Road is my fav
@@matttucker4269 dude, that album for me is right up there with RIP and Countdown. I've listened to that album so much.

@@morr.507 Totally agree!! Still we miss them. 😢😢
Its true! They were essential in these and other albums. I miss them.
Rust in peace is on another level, even outside the realm of metal
Agreed. Which is why slayer wins. It's more true metal in its absolute truest form
No
@@moscovciucartemie6019 Dude, you've commented on EVERY comment here that they prefer Megadeth than Slayer. Whoa, we have a keyboard warrior here that had a shitty day and now he's angry at some angry people because they prefer something else than his preferences!
My 1st Megadeth album... And the best (IMHO).
@@yannickfillon3851 agree, Rust in Peace is their masterpiece. Nevertheless, there are other albums that are metal gems, Peace Sells…but Who’s Buying is also a great album
I love how the mood changes and gets so dark right when it switches to Slayer each time.
Well yeah it's in Eb so no shit it's gonna sound darker
Difference is aggression and why does it hurt when I pee?
@@weaselpopper LMFAO
@@weaselpopper"I cum Blood" is a CC song, not Slayer
My father passed away in 2016 when I was 8. As I’ve grown up I’ve always loved metal, Megadeth was his favourite band.. i have so many good memories of listening to metal with him.. whenever I have a bad day I always listen to some Megadeth and it cheers me right up. Awesome playing by the way!
I am sorry for your loss .
Your dad had good taste in music :)
A hero dad
Sorry for your loss.
Rust In peace is the only album I never get tired of hearing. Faultless
never🤘💀🤘🍻😁🙋♂✌😎
These are both great albums but Rust in peace is insane. Tornado of souls has one of the best metal solos. Then there's killer riffs in Five magics, Rust in peace polaris and holy wars. That lineup in Rust in peace was amazing.
Noone talks about lucretia, thats my favorite song leading into polaris
@@joshblacker3512 that is a great song. Very underrated.
I went to see MEGADETH and SLAYER back in 2010 where they both played their albums "Rust In Peace" and "Seasons In The Abyss" from start to finish. Awesome show!!
Same here. Testament was the opening band but we got there late and got 30 secs of their last song. In Hillsboro Oregon.
I’m so jealous! Must’ve been a memorable show!!
@@paradiddle1 It was. My last time seeing SLAYER with the original lineup. MEGADETH was great, but SLAYER just killed it!!
I saw that whole show on youtube, what a godly things to witness.
@@222MovieMan I was in the pit!! Moshed for the last time with SLAYER'S original lineup.
"Rust" has more insane technicalities, while "Seasons" has more cool necksnapping grooves.
That's precisely what I was going to comment. Mustaine is a great guitar player but Hannemann was by far a better songwriter. And I say this while I'm a huge fan of Rust In Peace.
@@SpeedwayIncahaha nice joke, Hanneman can’t play Dave Mustaine riffs even if his life depends on it. Also no one is better than Dave Mustaine in songwriting in thrash metal, this guy still going strong since the band was born.
@@Qthetar well, you're entitled to your opinion.
@@SpeedwayInc it’s a fact not even debatable
@@Qthetar I'm not going to debate cult members
Huge Megadeth fan Not the biggest Slayer fan but damn those Slayer riffs sound so good.
I just wrote a similar comment, except I love Slayer a lot more than I like Megadeth. But Megadeth still has gems that I afore and listen to a lot. 🤟🤟
@Misanthrope agreed, those Slayer voals are so intense and full of aggression while Megadeth vocals have always been the weakest part of the band. Thats coming from a huge Megadeth fan
Its a good cd for sure
@@ricosalvaje5802 Agreed. The vocals are the main reason I never really got into Megadeth. Great songs, really mediocre vocals.
@@CrazimirMegadeth songs are boring
There was a single golden year in heavy metal, that would be 1990!
Megadeth’s Rust in Peace is 100% masterpiece, the state-of-the-art thrash metal.
Slayer’s 5th studio album is surely one of their finest!
Thank you for your great performance.
1986 had Reign in Blood, PSBWB and master of puppets and a bunch of other great albums
@@livinglikelarry5056
That's true!
1986 was the golden year of thrash metal.
I was an infant back then and I wish I would have experienced that era as an adult, better yet, as a teenager.
Thank you for your reply.
@@livinglikelarry5056 an 86 thrash vs. 1990 thrash riff battle would be sick
There is no "Versus" between these two albums, as far as I'm concerned. They kept me company as I flew to, during my time at, and the flight home from Desert Shield and Desert Storm. If I remember correctly, Seasons came out about a month before I left, and I think Rust was only out for about a week.
Thank you much for what you do. I love watching your videos, especially when one band is having a go and the other mime-riffs :)
Thanks mate !
Thank you for your service, I just missed Desert Storm as I wasn't old enough to "take the shilling" as we say this side of the pond. I joined in early 93 and it was still, let's say "open wounds" even when I did get in. Those upstairs had a lot to answer for by all accounts. Hope your knees and back made it out OK 😊
Thank you for your service!
Temptation by slayer is so Underrated...
Same goes to Spirit in Black and many others in this album.
IMHO, Temptation is only interesting because of its double vocal gimmick
@@igorszamaszow171
Not really.
The breakdown and the Middle riff is top notch.
Hallowed Point is very underrated IMO
Hallowed Point
Spirit in Black is the song that got me into Slayer
They sound equal , those riffs could be on the same album . But Megadeth has that extra bit of musicality to it where it's not just about head banging , it's like Mozart .
They don’t even use the same types of scales
For me not even close both bands are great they dont sound equal maybe only five magics can fit in slayer
Huge, huge Slayer fan here. So yeah, Seasons. I'm more into the aggressive style Slayer always brings to the table. But Holy Wars IMO is one of the top 3 thrash songs ever written. But both albums are complete masterpieces.
Slayer best thrash band
Give Deicide - legion a listen
@@screwstonTXmeskin713 oh I'm into Deicide as well. Great band!!
Season in the abyss album has good riffs..but I'd go with RIP.. Dave riffs are insane.. when you can play the whole RIP riffs along with the solos .. you've mastered Guitar upto some point.
Good job on playing Take no Prisoners that clean!
The best riff in RIP is the one in Holy Wars. Not the introductory one, which is the most popular, but rather the one that is played right after Mustaine starts singing. It heavy, melodic and extremely kickass. The absolute combination.
Well said! One of the greatest riffs in heavy metal is hidden under the vocals on the verse of Holy Wars
Mustaine has hidden many excellent riffs under his vocals through the years
And under solos
War Ensemble is one of the greatest metal songs of all time, but speaking of albums, Rust in Peace is stronger overall. Well, that's just like my opinion, man.
Absolutely!
I can never decide between albums like these. They're both their own masterpieces. I love both and I'll (hopefully) never be in a place where I *have* to pick which is the better one.
I’d like both more as instrumentals… that said both are still good!
Can’t handle dat slayer huh
@@screwstonTXmeskin713 yeah we can, megadeth is just better
The Suffocater never fails to deliver! 🤘
Season of the Abyss is music for battle. Rust in Peace is metal story telling. Both are timeless.
It's difficult for any good metalhead to have a favorite between these two historical pieces of art, so let me just say that each of them has my favorite song from each band, namely "Tornado of Souls" and "Dead Skin Mask".
You rule, dude. Keep it up!
I've been a Slayer fan for over 30 years, but I've also been a fan of Rust in Peace for just as long... but I gotta say that album will kick the crap out of almost anything you put up against it!

Both incredible albums, it feels wrong to choose a preference so i wont 🤘
Same here
Two incredible albums from two incredible bands released in the same incredible year🤘
These are the 2 of the first 3 albums that I ever bought, when I was a 14-year-old kid, back in 1992, after I decided that heavy metal would be the only genre for me. I bought them all from a guy, not a store. (third one as king diamond's "them") I did not choose them. The guy (from high school) told me that he had heard that I was into metal and said he could sell me those 3 albums at half price. I owe a lot to him! And finally, I definitely had no idea that I was about to buy 3 heavy metal masterpieces of all time, at once!
Damn riff fest going on in here!! I’ve always been more of a Megadeth fan but definitely appreciate Slayer and this album. It’s a lot closer than people think! Cheers to a great video man!
Exactly, before I start watching this video in automatic Rust was the winner, but slayer really killed it with seasons, one if not theirs best work. Both great records indeed, a very close call.
Well looks like I'm going to be blasting these two albums for the next couple weeks. I always love watching these, gets me in the mood to go back and listen to some of the classics. Keep doing your thing man! You're great.
Thanks dude !
I agree. His channel gets me motivated to go back and listen to a lot of great music.
Seasons in the Abyss is one of my favorite songs to just fiddle on the guitar. Sounds interesting no matter which tuning the guitar is in.
Skeletons of Society. So groovy, so nasty, so underrated. Feels like an unstoppable force
Expendable youth is too
Extra speed and technicality of RIP gives it the edge IMO. Also brought metal mainstream without selling out - perfect thrash album.
Overkill's Feel the Fire album vs Destruction's Eternal Devastation. Please!!
The world needs more Overkill!
Two of the greatest albums of my teenager years. It shaped me in my everyday headbanging life.
I think Seasons was when we really saw what Slayer's potential was outside of their classics, which showed why they were equally part of the big 4, and Rust is just self explanatory, it's arguably the best line up, and album in their discography.
Rust in peace is the best album of all times! The riffs are awesome and it's so melodic 🤘👍👏. Very good job dude 🤘
When it comes to the technical sound of Thrash Metal, Megadeth can be said for sure. When it comes to blunt battle hymns, in this case only SLAYER !!! Greetings from Poland
Slayer, kurwa 🙂🤘
@@maciejjajko Nic dodać nic ująć 🤘
Megadeth, because they have a more evolved melodical sound. Daves solos on this record are beyond belief 🤘🤘🤘
I like Seasons, but it's got to be RIP for me, every time. Classic, classic album.
Now, Rust In Peace vs Ride the Lightning - that's one that would leave me undecided.
Rust
Always great to see more videos like this! Keep them coming!
So hard to choose, but I think I'd have to go with Rust in Peace as it is just so chockablock full of amazing riffs
skeletons of society is so damn underrated
Both are examples of why I love metal music. They lead me down the path.
Seasons is my favorite Slayer album for sure. Rust in Peace is pretty untouchable though, it really is a masterpiece IMO. I love 'em both. Cool vid!
I love your content so much! Super excited when I saw this!! Excellent 🤘🏽
All these vids are fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to figure them all out and then put them in order by year/album release. Shows how epic these riffs weere/are. Great playing too!
So Awesome! I was so lucky I got to see both these bands play through both of these albums live in 2010.
Yessir. That was my third fave Slayer show. First being Static x, Morbid Angel, Slayer and Pantera in 01 or 02 in K.C. and Slayers last show in L.A.
Both incredible! Nice playing!
Both are absolutely fantastic to compare, Slayers melodic power and Dave's technical riffs are each to there own

It's just sped-up rock riffs with a heavier lean on pentatonic blues licks for flair/filler.
If that's your thing, fine, but as far as riffing goes, objectively speaking it's not thrash or hardly metal especially when compared to Slayer.
@@DeTriomfvandeDood There's nothing objective whatsoever about what you just said. Slow down most thrash songs to half tempo and you'd end up with rock riffs: that's what thrash stems from. One of the most ridiculous comments I've seen in a while.
The Suffocater ROCKS! Great video as usual!
Impossible to choose between the two. Both are amazing works of art and you cover it perfectly.
These two albums have some of the greatest riffs in metal, pound-cor-pound. Just the riffs on 'holy wars' are astounding
Great job on all of them! \\m//
Both awesome albums! Excellent man!
Too good to be true. I pretty much enjoy all of your videos but this one might be my favorite so far, probably because the two albums you have covered are up there in my top 10 list of favorite metal albums, with Rust in Peace being #1 probably, but regardless, thanks for the awesome experience. Great job very great comparison too, 2 of my favorite albums of all time.
Outstanding rhythm playing by the host! Subscribed immediately.

Was never a huge metal guy, but was really into thrash and hardcore as a teen, but had both of these albums in HS. I love this slayer album and still listen to it when I’m working out or mowing the grass ha. Head banging riffs. Great UA-cam video 👍🏼🎸
"Dawn Patrol" was funny! Great riff battle! Killer riffs from both of those bands. Megadeth is more technical, but they had Marty back then. NEXT: Do riff battle between LOVEBITES and HELLOWEEN/IRON MAIDEN ! Hehehe!
Loved seeing both these bands playing these respective albums in full one evening.
Awesome 👌
Seasons sounds much more dark and evil, whereas Rust sounds more technical and precise. It all depends on your preference.
Seasons in the abyss is the winner for sure. Although I do like Rust in Peace, but Seasons is just better all the way around.
Dave! just does it so well.
Awesome!
Thank You, Bro! Old School - So Cool!!!
Rust in Peace absolute masterpiece beyond any reasonable doubt, a kind of magic of Mustaine & c... Seasons in the Abyss great album but not comparable to RIP.

I'm just glad that I got to see both of them live... 🤘
Damn nice work Suffocater!
Absolutely two classic masterpieces! 🤘🏻
It's hard to choose one, both are masterpieces. But I would choose "Seasons in the abyss" and my favorite track is "Dead skin mask"
Yeah that was a good one my late friend enjoyed that tune too taught me how to play it on the drums first and then on the guitar and then dancing by the light of the Moon Mr gean . Hallowed be. I scream. Slayer.
Two great albums! Both with fantastic riffs that are difficult to play! But if you didn't notice the slightly more technical and difficult nature of the Megadeth stuff, let me add that Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King never had to sing while playing. Megadeth is king!
Two of the greatest metal albums for sure 🤘🏽😎

SO great!!!
Most intersting aspect of slayer is that they never seem to over do a riff or any groove, so that it may not lose it's impact on repeat listens...
This may sound gibberish but it's the best i can explain
1990 was a hell of a year for metal. Pantera: Cowboys from Hell, Judas Priest: Pain Killer, Megadeth: Rust in Peace, Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss, Obituary: Cause of Death, Death: Spiritual Healing. Bought most of them day one. Hey kiddies, this is the real metal!🤘
