Have a great build.
Thank you!
I built the original around 1980. This time I'm waiting for a re-issue of the Empire Strikes back version. With 5 landing gear.
Looks interesting, and I guess lots of people thought so as it's already sold out! 🤣 Any chance you'll get more in the future? Thanks for the review!
It's SHOULD be part of our regular stock now. It just depends on when the stock will arrive
@@SunwardHobbiesToronto Great, thanks for the info. I’ll keep my eye on your website. 😎😉
@@terryramsey5979 late reply but they arrived last week and we should still have some in stock
I bought this kit in 2002.
This version has thinner side walls and a smaller antenna, addressing the two biggest complaints of the old ones.
I had the original back in the 1970s or early 80's. The thing that I find odd with this new reissue, is that they left out the lighting kit. The original had small LED lights for the cockpit, so you can see Han and Chewbacca, and lights for the clear panel simulating the engine. If I remember correctly, those back engine clear panels weren't blue, but just frosted and without color. It is somewhat disappointing that the current reissue of this model left out the lighting. I am sure a person could customize it with wiring, lights and rig up somewhere to have a battery, since the cockpit canopy, cockpit back wall, and engine panels are translucent plastic. But why would MCP not include it as an accurate to original reissue? Is Disney and the model company afraid of getting sued for potential fire hazards or people giving themselves a jolt? In any case, it is nice to see the model and especially the original top box artwork. It would have been even more incredible to have the model include the original lighting.
The old lighting kit may have been a fire hazard. Who knows
The original had grain of wheat bulbs, and ran off of four C batteries. There was a switch on the starboard aft panel.
It would probably cost too much money to include a lighting option; Lord knows they left that horrible cockpit bulkhead in.
The company has to make money off the new tooling. Too many people forget that.
-before Disney id be on it now i just dont care
Trolling folks with that "live long & prosper" crack? And it's DEE-cal, not deck-al.
Reader's Digest version: the side panels are lower, more accurate, and have greater detail. The radar dish is somewhat more accurate, and they provided engine grills molded in color. The cockpit still sucks.
The rest of the model is substantially the same, with the exception of a massive decal sheet. This is the three-gear A New Hope version. There are aftermarket parts to turn it into a five-gear version, among other goodies.
For all the kvetching, the molds _are_ 45 years old. Deal with it, or spend several hundred dollars on a "better" kit.
why just 2 sits in the cockpit, shouldn't there be 4 sits? run out of plastic or something? lol
