I always get the Scripties before I record a video or audio.
I write down a script. And then I start. And then I make a mistake. And then I have to start over. And then my vocal chords tense up. And then I make more mistakes. So you're right -- that breather is really important.

During performances, you need to be comfortable enough to go off-script. Or else, too much of your mental energy will be focused on (sticking to) the script, instead of on what you want to say. You'll sound forced & unnatural.
