The hidden reason they hired you (a consultant)

Sometimes people hire consultants for one and one purpose only: so they will mention the elephant in the room.
The person bringing in the consultant themselves would bring up the scary topic-a competitor, a liability risk, etc.-but in many large organizations there is a cost to being the bearer of bad news. And sometimes, leadership won't listen until they hear it from outsiders.
