- With Battlefield 2042 coming to an end, let's take a retrospective look at its life, from one of the worst releases in gaming history to its current state, and finally, what does the future hold for the Battlefield franchise?

DICE and EA need to realize that we come to Battlefield to play Battlefield. The trend chasing in this industry is exhausting. I don't need every game to be a hero shooter, battle royale, marvel humor clone. There are already games that do all those things better. Do what you do best and be the studio to set the trend.
BF2042 is a better battlefield than BF4.

@@ericmcgrane8000 I have about 800 hours into BF4. I was scammed by that game TWICE into buying it in an absolute trash state. BF4 didnt become playable for most people until a year and a half after release.

Especially after Dice and EA said they were going to reimagine Battlefield once again, now with real-life advertisements in-game.
I hope that the next BF gameplay will be slowed down just a bit? Not milsim just maybe not try to copy cod as much (Tac Sprint, Aggressive sliding, etc.)
The stupid tac sprint ever worked properly anyway. If you played controller on PC you spent every single update trying to fix your settings that they broke. You would try to ADS but instead end up meleeing the air or tac sprinting forward into gunfire. Then a dev on another team would fix it and you could play for a week or 2 but like clockwork another update would happen and the would break it again. I had to buy it on console just to play it when they broke it on PC. So annoying!
Agree, this is why I wouldn't mind suppression (especially visual). When I recently went back to BF3 I realised how much suppression alone slowed the game down + made it more immersive.
I triple dog dare DICE to do something stupid and reinvent the wheel with the next Battlefield when making the next Battlefield is arguably the easiest they've ever had it. The feedback is everywhere, the mistakes are obvious to everyone, and there are so many easy routes they can take with the setting.
Isnt this the dice ea cycle, deliver a bad game, disrespecting their community. Then back paddle every obvious bad decision they made. And having a reasobable game years after release. It is so bad and i feel like this cycle will end only at the closing of the dice studios

It's usually upper management, not the developers. The developers are almost never at liberty to make what is right or what they want. The people running the company probably were trying to please shareholders and investors with buzz words and fads.

But making games is a buisness. Im curious who has trur control over the actual direction of Battlefield. Yes the Developers make the game. But EA. How strong are their grip on the direction. Like idk how they process of making a game looks like or what will happen with the next title. What is prioritized and what carrys over from past games I suppose is up to the devs, there's a lot of features that worked that were erased.

@@OPTIMUMELITEobv ea made the game worse, and its their fault that the game is full of micro transactions. But they sure as hell didnt tell the developers to leave out the scoreboard or other core features, fuck up ballancing or release the game with to few weapons etc.
Game is still shite TBH. The plus system while interesting, its kind of dumb. Being able to change your optic/grips instantly makes no sense but I liked it for switching mags on the fly. Vehicle call ins are dumb and incredibly unbalanced. Being able to call in a tank on the roof of the skyscrapers is absolutely game breaking making capturing OBJ's on them nearly impossible. Vehicles have never felt worst especially Jets and helicopters feel floaty as hell with lack of control compared to BF4. Adding Hero's/Operators/Specialist into the battlefield franchise is the dumbest thing they could of done as it completely goes against what makes battlefield well battlefield. Live service battlefield sucks and the premium model while yes broke the community up, it was peak battlefield as we got guaranteed content since it was paid for. Now with the live service model DICE/EA can drop the games support whenever they feel like its not getting the amount of engagement that they want(i.e not making enough money). I could go on and on with my grievances with this game but I don't have the energy anymore which is unfortunate since this franchise used to be one of my favorites of all time but I don't have any faith at all that DICE can deliver a good game anymore. The developers that made the franchise what is was no longer work at DICE and have moved onto greener pastures and maybe that's what we all should too. I hope the new leadership at DICE actually gives a damn and have the power to make positive change at the studio by listening to all the feedback players have given over the last few years. Now with Ridgeline games being laid off striking my hopes for any hope of a decent single player I just can't get excited for a new battlefield.

2.5 years later and I still can't easily level up the brand new aircraft without fucking spawning under the map after the first time I die in it every round!! With this bug, its quicker to quit the game and rejoin a new game to get back into working Draugr

I have this bug too. Once having entered and died in a Draugr, even getting into helicopters spawns me under the map. Weird
I stand corrected, last night I hopped in a bot match and I have encountered the bug, and then I got in a helicopter and I got the bug again.
I think the Battlefield ship has sailed. I loved this franchise since I go into gaming. EA found a way to take a tried and tested formula and drove it into the ground. The next game will be just as crap, but with more predatory monetization.

Honestly I loved the fact the hovercraft could go up buildings. Overall I still consider 2042 "Spain without the S" the game is much improved from its launch state (which was somehow worse than beta??) and I always find 2042 a sad story.... it world and story is AMAZING like legitimately awesome (think of the short film we recieved!) but there is no where to EXPERIENCE this like at all, unless you cout the player card stories but aint nobody got time for that (thanks Comet and Co for the archieves! the community does it again!) I always found the game lackluster so to speak, they had something good but couldnt quite capitalise on it, and its flawed core can never be fixed which is a real shame. I think its Battlefield but without the battlefield feeling. and battlefield to me is like Pizza, when its good its amazing and when its bad its still pretty good and I wouldnt want anything else. I agree that the launch was a disaster, however I think that I might be the only person who misses it. Playing 128 player breakthrough on OG maps was pure chaos and so much fun.
I am definitely a big fan if immersion and historical settings, the reason Battlefield 1 is my favourite game in the series. But if we would go back to a stable and good BF4 style game, I would be happy too!

The bare minimum of new maps in the next Battlefields live service should be 2 new maps every 2 and a half months

Am I the only who feels like they could just keep re-releasing any of the quality titles from the past with updated graphics and occasionally throw in some new content as well, and we’d generally be quite happy? I’ve played BF since the original 1942. All we’ve ever asked for is the quintessential battlefield experience, just updated a bit. 🤷🏼♂️
Wont be pre-ordering the next game, obviously. In order to even consider a post -release purchase (assuming overwhelmingly positive reviews from trusted sources)...
1) at least 10 FINISHED NEW maps on release. Re-makes dont count. Not every map can be an absolute banger, but they all have to be playable with adequate cover and decent design. And this is just personal preference, but I dont want to see half the maps be Metro/locker/Redacted style spam fests. 1 or 2 at most (I'd prefer none, but I know some people like them
2) a detailed plan for release of new maps, vehicles and weapons (no murky language. Tell us how many and when) with a similar amount of content to what we saw during the Premium days. Skins, emotes, player cards, charms etc are NOT CONTENT. We need an average of 1 new map a month.
3) Server Browser for the base game.
Obviously I want to see a relatively bug free release with solid gun play, pacing, atmosphere, balance, etc. But most of that can be tweaked over time. If there's no server browser up front, it will never come in. And if people buy the game/battle pass with no guarantee of a good amount of actual real content....EA will just do the bare min. again and hope to trick the kiddies into buying OMG KOOL SKINZ!!!!!
The hit registration was so broken on launch and the pp bison was the only gun that seemed to work for weeks
I revisited 2042 a couple months ago and all it did was remind me of why I left. I can wholeheartedly say I have no faith in the new DICE or the Battlefield franchise anymore, no matter how good the next Battlefield looks because we all know how 2042's marketing went, I won't be getting it.
Crazy where the hype kind of came back to the game in season 6, then season 7 dropped and it was the most lackluster effort since launch. Any of the good work they did leading up to S6 got flushed down the toilet. Which really makes you question if they learned anything. I'm confident 2042's extended life only existed until they built out the live service systems like the battlepass and community events and skins. The content drop was so slow and makes you wonder if they were using it to train up a skeleton crew on 2042 for the next game.
I wish they did more for Portal ngl. With content from other eras and such

It’s unfortunate that I like this game same much. Like I love hopping into a giant map and strategizing with a squad to get objectives. But there are so many glaring issues with this game. I cannot believe this IP is in the hands of ea…
Bf2042 for me has been awesome fun I got it later so a lot of the game was fixed I'm a covert to the heroes I like them

❤ There are still updates in the works so you never know if they may add.. in addition to fixing & refining Battlefield 2042 something new.. & also Didn't they state there will still be events happening here & there because remember we still have until late 2025 till next Battlefield so in theory more content will be released till then... even though most of it might likely be cosmetic, weapon skin's, Charms, ect... We may get something new but it will more likely be from already existing portal assets... so not exactly NEW.

Man BF3/4 were so good this game does not deserve any good word in a review.
The destruction is minimal and you don't have a huge impact on the map as a player yourself.
Back in Bf4 you could hopp in rhe Viper or havoc and actually do something to help your team... many veterans and good players from back then don't even play this game because its not competetive in all ways possible...
The draugr is a joke its more against infantrie then against vehicles no flares or any fun in because of that under the map bug if you crash into the ground... dice doesn't test their stuff they just think fuck them people up they will then buy a skin because they are sad...
The bugs, the specialists, the under delivery, the constant whining online; it all combined for a memorable bf title. Coulda been better but I got my $20 worth, in fact dollar for hour spent consuming 2042 content, this mighta been the best value bf title ever

What is interesting is the clos out to this video....wiy the mash up . That alone should remind the new developers what they are up aainst , we are not their community or friends this time around . We are paying consumers and gamers . The maket is truly demand and supply.
This game is still terrible for controller players on PC. The fact that they screw up the actual aiming competent only a month after fixing it every few months, tells you that they have zero clue what they are doing. It's like one team will fix it so your not meleeing, or Auto sprinting every time you aim, then a month later another team break this and every time you try to aim, once again you are auto sprinting forward or trying to punch the air. I've never ever played an FPS game that is absolutely 100% clear that the developers never once picked up a controller and tried to play there own game. It's so clear that the left hand has no clue what the right hand is doing. The controller settings on PC are still the most broken, in the bad way, than any FPS ever. I've been a BF player since the beginning as I'm 45 years old, i can play m&k on PC but even that's broken as well. I've spent the last year switching back and forth trying to figure out which is worse, controller or m&k and I can honestly say, neither of them are synced correctly so buying it on console is your best option. Maybe this is what they planned to boost sales?

The best part of the game was the hovercraft up the sky scraper bug early on. They removed it. They should have not added the plus system. They should have impletemented voice comms from hell let loose. It is the worst game I have ever played.

OH come on and please reflect over the past 2.5 years. EVERY attempt by DICE to add core features, improvements and bug fixes was half baked and buggy requiring multiple subsequent fixes. It is hard to imagine why the next Battlefield will be any better. I HAVE to play BF2042 but it frustrates the hell out of me kind of like a captive worshiping his abuser.

Absolutely 100% agree with you, despite Cyberpunk being as good as it is currently. That's the product we SHOULD'VE gotten at launch. And I understand the "better late than never" mindset, but it's ultimately super destructive to gaming as a whole, it makes devs lazy. They'll willingly release unfinished games, knowing full well that players will be mad, and then they slowly patch/update it to the point where its what it should've been at launch, but when you look at the calendar, the game's already been out for years.

All they had to do was literally copy bf4 gameplay, vehicles, class system, and graphics. Then make it futuristic by tweaking the name of vehicles, guns, and gadgets. Whole lots of new maps and boom 2042. But no they added goofy voiclimes, operators who don’t look like military soldiers. Literally copy the way bf4 soldiers looked and that’s it. Had so much hype for me just to get destroyed after trying to defend this game. And it’s still bad.

Terrible review. This is more of a subjective comparison of 2042 to previous Battlefield titles and recommendations to dice on what to do to make the franchise successful going forward. I did not want to hear you rehash what a hundred other UA-camrs said about its poor launch and laxk of scoreboard and all that crap. We have been there. We get it. Talk more about the game in its current state. You spent very little time actually talking about its features, game modes, operators, and actual content. I kept waiting for that and it never came. Are you trying to tell your viewers "hey i agree with everything everyone says!" Or are you gonna make a real review

@@lokoo_ Because its annoying. Literally everybody has said exactly this a thousand times over and they've been saying it for years. I don't need to hear what literally everybody else has said for the millionth time. Its a review, ide at least expect something regarding the current state of the game and some of the features. Even in retrospect he seldom mentions any innovations made by the game.

This game had the Cyberpunk effect, it started off terribly and then became a game worth playing. Both were overhyped and underdelivered. Looks like if battlefield had more development time and better technology and direction like Cyberpunk did, it would've been considered great now too.

@@chronostasis9510yeha, saying that bf is similiar to cyberpunk... it's painfully mediocre, like these free to play third person shooters that were everywhere on steam. It's fun for a while but nowhere near as impactfull as cyberpunk is today.

This game was a mess but its actually fun now if u can learn the new stuff. Just dont buy Battlefield games until 1 or 2 years later.
Also, the Plus system, 128 player conquest, ps5 dualsense, linear aiming, calling in vehicles, etc were game changers, hard to go back to old BF without these new features
@@arbisangria8933 + system is OP, 128 players made map flow terrible, calling in vehicles broke many aspects of the game. I hope they never return, and I'm far from alone.
@eliasboegel been switching back n forth from 64 to 128 player conquest, i like both but I prefer 128 because it's not easy to get the most kills or pts in a 128 player lobby, knowing when to call in vehicles n learning the Plus system can help u get up there
@@arbisangria8933 The following are my problems:
1) The plus system is OP because it allows you to have attachments for all situations with you. There is barely a point to choosing attachments given the plus system exists. It also allows you to bring a ridiculous amount of e.g. grenade launcher ammo.
2) Calling in vehicles is fine as a general concept, but it should be only light transport vehicles like bikes and ATVs. Calling in vehicles like tanks (or any other vehicles with armor or weapons) on e.g. rooftops is not fine and has completely broken maps in the past.
3) 128 players sits in an uncomfortable spot with map design. If the map is large enough to accommodate 128 players, then the map is far too massive and movement becomes a chore. If the map is kept smaller, then any closer quarter areas become way overloaded and various strategies (e.g. well placed flanks) become borderline impossible. 64 sits in a good spot where it can accommodate close quarter maps like we've seen in Metro, Locker, ..., as well as large vehicle maps that are also playable as infantry without needing a transport vehicle for every player.

I despise the ''on the fly'' loadout customisations. I hate it with a passion.
What makes a ''battle imitator'' so fun is the need to improvise, adapt and overcome.
If your loadout sucks or if your ammunition runs dry, you should be forced to pick up an enemy or fallen comrades weapon off of the ground and make due with what you have.
Until you manage to regroup, reach a rendezvous point and get to restock, re-equip yourself.
That or at least change your loadout when you perish on the battlefield.
Struggle, adversity and the thrill of overcoming and accomplishment is part of what makes life(and games) so enjoyable.
The modern need for instant gratification and the need to feel OP from the get go is completely braindead to me.
This game is completely unrealistic .... because they show that South Africa has electricity. (I'd better type fast in order to finish before our power goes off again.) And it’s supposed to be a mine … where are the striking workers + taxis, burning tires and buses?
That must be why the devs were so eager to add the ‘’Sundance’’ Black women specialist, she has a special ability , just like our ministers, you press a button and then she does nothing.
I hate this sick need for individuality in military games of today. When you join the military you are broken down in basic training into a pile of clay and then reshaped into a proper soldier. The army strips you of individuality and shapes you into a unit that performs in a team. You are one of thousands of soldiers serving a country and that is what I love ; To be one soldier among thousands of other men ,pinned down on a beach head ,scared, confused and exactly like the rest just trying to survive. And in those moments it takes a great man to lead and help his squad overcome the fear, to overcome the impossible and do great things.
Soldiers in military games should be as they were in the past, uniform!! It is only this sick woke fantasy and people that are pathetic in real life that demand that they be represented in a historical war game with a personality, a sexuality, and you HAVE to be this amazing Action hero. I hate it.
In game like Medal of Honour Allied Assault, call of duty 1 and 2, they never show the protagonist, because you are just a basic soldier ,fighting with a large army just to survive and get the objectives done. There is no need to showcase the back story, personality, gender nor race of your soldier, for you are but a pawn amongst thousands.
There are no factions in game , I want dedicated nations, factions and their special forces, like The UK (SAS,Commandos,Royal Marines) , Taliban/Alqieda/Ysis, with other Muslim terrorists , Murica (Seals,Green Berets,Marines,Delta Force,Rangers) , Russia with other terrorists, China will grow larger, a Nato faction with skins of the various European countries soldiery uniforms , Boko Haram and other Muslim terrorist factions of Africa, and ofcourse a Ukrainian faction .
So many interesting factions with different yet distinct uniforms for soldiers to use.
That is what I want.

They completely neglect the entire setting that had extensive black male soldiers fighting in each faction. (Africa) It just shows that the WOKE cult doesn't give a shit about peoples true representation nor showing the world the interesting /heroic/diverse cultures/actions/histories of non western people but care much more about rewrighting and degrading the histories,memories and cultures of Western civilisations by means of forced propaganda. Give us BF1 Africa DLC with African Factions. As well as male character creation .I want the option to exchange the black British riflemen for a Scottish highlander Rifleman. I want to fight as the South Africans I want to fright as a Scottish rifleman using the Martini Henri with Kilimanjaro skin as we fight all across the numerous battlefields of Sub Sahara Africa.
I for one have absolutely no desire to shoot and kill women , I have never looked at a war game and thought… you know what? I wish I could be killing women now.
But the Woke feminazi cult needs to see women shot at and killed in battle for some depraved reason.

One thing for sure is that Bf community is amazing and they are mostly adult,we want what we had, despite the game needing to change for new generation this is battlefield not some childish game, still we are the people who want this game.

The only lesson I learned is don't pre-order. The next one will be like this one with a Live Service and janky game play. Dice and EA does not care what they do to the franchise as long as they can pull in a large stream of income...Beware the Dice shills out there!
I'd say 2042 is worth it now cause i recently got a mate to try it out and we had a blast playing it, with the caveat that he got it for $10
It's a bit funny how 2042 does improve a lot in terms of basic gameplay mechanics but even the tone of the gameplay gradually changes into a more serious tone after receiving constant backlash and then spending the last 2 years backpedaling on it

This game is a masterpiece. BF1 is phenomenal! It is set in such an interesting war. The respect and honour they give to God and the soldiers whom fought in the war is brilliant. BF1 is close to utter Historical war FPS Perfection. I Just wish they didn’t force you to be a certain race in each class, I wish they would just give you the option to choose which race your soldier is, (and the BS 08 SMG get removed from the game) then BF1 Would get 11/10 for me.
It is so sickening to see (in multiplayer) that the WOKE cult wants to force you to be black when wielding a rifle (The weapon issued to 95% of all WW1 Combatants) When 85% of the soldiers in the European factions were caucasian men. If they set the support (MG)gunner to a black man and a caucasian man as the rifleman ,or better yet ,give us the choice to select the race of your soldier it would be perfect. (BTW I love the addition of the Indian / Gurkha medic for the British)
Colonel T.E. Lawrence is one of my all time heroes, he did so much for the people in the ME under the flag of the Great British Empire. I want a DLC in BF1 that adds Namibia and African (Such as German east Africa) settings since there was such a large amount of battles that were fought all throughout the African Colonies. 2.South African troops serving under the British flag.
3. Askari soldiers
Another DLC Faction to be added is the Arab revolt , the Arabs with aid from the British that fought against the Ottomans in new Arabic maps with a proper Lawrence of Arabia campaign.
The game, in my opinion, is peak immersion; from voice lines, sound effects, and attention to detail in the visuals to the grittiness, the atmosphere, and even the team-wide charges with the whistle-blowing and screaming. absolute chef's kiss of a game immersion-wise.
Bf2042 is a scam , bf4 from 2013 is 1000% times better in everyway

I had and still have a blast on 2042. I wished things were different. It is not the game that I was expecting. It was a disaster but i did not jump on the hate train. I have continued to play bf4 bf1 and some bfv during the last two years. But today 2042 is the one I play the most. I think if it would have launched like it is now with a campaign to showcase the specialist the reception would have probably been different. I think since season 2-3 it is a good Bf game and gets roasted more then it deserves. Nonetheless there is a lesson here for Dice and I hope they come out in 2025 with a banger. The market needs a good BF game! We need a good BF game. I still think it is the best FPS out there. No other FPS games can scratch that itch! Bf is Unique and they need to stop following trends and double down on what makes it so special. Thanks Ghost for sticking around during these hard times!

Love Bad Company 2. Lots of Platoon fun. And why did Bad Company 2 sell so many units? I ask... Even dice couldn't believe what made it such a success. Bad Company 2 sold millions of units. I wonder why???
BC2 game was amazing! Don't get me wrong. I love Battlefield 3 and my favorite Battlefield 4. But Battlefield 3 and 4 would have never happened without Bad Company 2. To me, it is the standard which all the future games were built upon. Squad play, vehicles, weapons, and f****** destruction. Awesome destruction, that made Bad Company 2 special.
I started playing few weeks before 7.2. The state of the game is not terrible but there are some bugs that's remarkable they haven't fixed yet and I guess they never will. One of the biggest annoyances is sometimes the red pin icon from squad mate does not show up, only the sound. And then how enemy jet can literally crash into your helicopter forcing it to crash meanwhile they continue on, wtf is that.
Then the game is very unbalanced in many aspects. Some gadgets are straight up overpowered and incredibly annoying (SPH), and some characters are just miles better than other so you would never play anything else, in the support class Falck is just better in basically every way. Vehicles also feel very unbalanced and for god's sake remove the stupid Stealth helicopters. Vehicle physics feel pretty terrible overall honestly. Everything from tanks, airplanes and helicopters feel either clunky, unrewarding or too easy. Get stuck way too easy and the controls feel off compared to earlier BF games.
Personally one major criticism with how matchmaking works in this game is because you constantly go in and out you have no real control over which maps you play. Sometimes you get the same map twice in a row. Or just get put into the shitty maps. If you as in earlier BF games at least there is a set rotation in the server so you first you will not play the same map twice in a row, and if you play longer you have a chance to play on more different maps. And then there is almost a non-existent feel of community.
I have been playing battlefield games since BF2.
I didn't pre-order BF 2042 (unlike 1&5) and so happy to had gotten it for free! Won't lie, it's a bit fun but not immersive like BF1 or as smooth as V. I hate the cartoonish visuals and the maps are mostly trash. Still better than most other fps but nowhere near as good as other BF titles.
Mentioning the plus system being "good" i really hope that they DONT bring it back, like if they do bring it back limit what can be changed while on the field and have what ever attachment take time to appy it and not be instant 8X scope, barrel ect.
How can they listen to the community? Where? They shut down the official game boards. Okay PC has redit, but a board to even report bugs is lacking.

DICE needs to make a game that's reasonable for players, not a game that's reasonable for them. Will they do that with next game? Not likely at all.
Was going to get a BF game but I'm glad I came here to learn that the game is dead and ready to shut down. Crazy because it is still full price on steam
