Yes, bees do visit them and are impossible to keep out unless all insects are kept out with a bug net or similar. Thankfully in our greenhouses very few bees get in so we don't see many in the pitchers. But when growing outside, I regularly dump bees out of pitchers.
Matt, The AJ01 I bought from you 2 years ago did not throw up a single pitcher this year, any ideas as to why? It was repotted in mid winter. It's only produced phyllodia. It's in full Sun all day long and nothing but rainwater.
I got it from you potted. I think it was a 4" pot. It had 2 nice pitchers on it at the time. New pot is 5" and about 6" tall, standard peat/perlite mix 50:50. Scratching my head as to why. @@MattMillerFlytrapStore
@@Tommyr that's super odd. AJ01 is definitely slower to put up pitchers in the fall and is usually the last leucophylla to put out its best pitchers. But it does put out some decent spring pitchers. Maybe give it a bump with some fertilizer. I regularly fertilize my Sarracenia with Dyna-Gro Foliage Pro, Pro-Tekt, and Supreme Growers Kelp Blast.

@@Tommyr Nope, I do a full-strength (1 tsp per gallon of each Foliage Pro and Kelp Blast along with 1/2 tsp of Pro-Tekt) and soil drench and fill the tray with it. Sarracenia can take a crazy amount of fertilizer through their roots. I've yet to burn them, even when starting from seedlings, and I've watered as much as 2x a month with full-strength fertilizer on newly germinated baby Sarrs. You can also fill the pitchers with it if you want, but they seem to take it up very well through the roots. I've had Maxsea in my arsenal since 2009 but I rarely use it. I simply don't get good results with it compared to other products.

They'll eventually break the pot if they aren't repotted. That one in the tiny pot in the video will be repotted this winter.

This video showed me that I have way too many flavas in my collection. I need 3-5 good leucos to balance things out and have full season interest
You definitely need at least a few leucophylla! They put on a great show this time of year while the flavas have been done for a while now.
